1991 Face Greg Valentine vs Rhythm & Blues Greg Valentine
thebrainfollower replied to Judy Bagwell's topic in Pro Wrestling
R and B. Face Valentine didn't really do anything any different. He was just the grizzled veteran who had been around so long the fans accepted him even if he didn't care in the slightest. R and B Valentine gave Hammer another chance to basically carry a team by himself. Part of it is lesser opponents (Bushwhackers) part of it is the 4 years have passed, but some of it also has to be his desire and or skills going way down, because I've never seen a match of theirs I liked. Hammer also clearly had no faith in what he was doing, and that killed any chance of it working. -
I might put him in the 90's. I think it comes down to style, some people absolutely hate his style of wrestling and wouldn't put him in their top 500, others grew up with it and/or considered it an exciting alternative to what they considered a more "boring" style before him. It also comes down to how much you like big moves vs. how much you like psychology. I see the value in him and what he tries to do even if I don't particularly like him bell to bell in an average match. I think you do have to admit his Austin feud in 2001 produced really good work, and I think he brought as much if not more to the table for it than Sting did against Vader to give one comparison.

I don't see how you can NOT believe this. There is conclusive evidence of this going back at least ten years. Trish and Lita were the last two faces even remotely booked as sane respectable women until Bayley. And oddly all 3 are and were over. Funny that.

Had a real blast listening/watching this with you guys. My ideal PWO project would be the same sort of thing with famous Japanese and lucha matches, the same way Cornette and Meltzer did those Wrestling Gold DVD's but with the experts here at PWO. This was a lot of fun and there ARE 3 more Cap Centre cards as well as 4 MSG cards from the same guys. I'd love to hear more from the whole Titans crew or some of the other great PTBN podcasters.

Woot! He's put up the late August and Sept 77 MSG shows. One looks to be near complete at 2 hours long, the other about 90 minutes. -
Not something he'd do. Something he'd THINK sure but I don't buy it happening.

Darn. And my free sub ran out last night. -
At this point I feel the final destruction and I mean FINAL of the Authority is needed to help sell Wrestlemania

If Roman gets hurt the main is HHH-Taker in a 4 hour Iron Man match with Vince and Stephanie as the special referees.

Vader definitely should have stayed clear of the WWF, particularly when he did. Had he come around in say mid 92 right after dropping the belt to Simmons he might have had a chance, essentially taking the Yokozuna role albeit a few months early. With Hogan gone and the Kliq not yet around not as many political landmines. He still would have had to loosen up a lot though.

Buckshot Levonsque. Sorry was unaware we could link and post channel names.

The Ric Flair vs. Ronnie Garvin Feud
thebrainfollower replied to ohtani's jacket's topic in The Microscope
So to be clear the Starrcade match WAS the last televised singles match between them? -
Wouldn't the coverup for Bruiser Brody's death be the worst? Or is that more a case of Puerto Rican justice being an issue?

Also I took scummiest moment to mean scummiest moment on air, not scummiest thing behind the scenes.

No Laz I meant her quitting WWE over not wanting to do it and them suing HER is what would have happened to me most likely. Commending her for gutting it out and forcing their respect through 5 more years of hard work.

The tag match wasn't on the network IIRC. -

Darn it. He posted the June 77 show but WWE took it down within an hour. That had an Andre-Strongbow vs. Patera/Volkoff match on it I have been looking for for years. No idea why just like the strange pairings. -

Imagine if the WWF was just New England based and this was your whole roster. Good luck! -

Having watched it I can see why. -
Vince has very very low taste if any and believes his audience to have even lower taste than he does. That Trish moment made me turn my TV off in disgust, but it also made me admire her for having the courage to do something like that, work through it and do what she did for the next 5 years I guess. If had been her I would have said no way to doing that, and taken my chances in court. She's got more courage than I do. I feel the biggest problem was the payoff. One slap is all she got as payback. She and Stephanie fought on Raw the next night but the match ended with Regal interfering because heaven forbid the Almighty Steph do a job. Then the feud was dropped and never mentioned again. Meltzer reported the reason being the dog segment got so much heat they had to drop the story altogether. Yup 6 weeks later at just the time Stephanie would get hers they "had" to drop the angle. Scummiest thing I ever saw. Katie Vick was close. Let's not forget Vince wanted an angle where he impregnated Stephanie as well and she shot that down (confirmed BY HER on a WWE DVD)

Vader-Rude wouldn't have drawn a dime IMO.

Having no idea what this comment meant, I looked Buck up and found some truly disturbing stuff. Was totally unaware of that at all. Back to the topic at hand, there's a guy putting up complete Cap Centre shows from 82-84. Gorilla is solo on commentary for all of them. I do get the Gorilla hate after listening to this as he just nitpicks half the talent to death. He was better with a partner who would set the tone for him. Also someone put up the June 73 MSG show. Is that the earliest complete WWF card out there? (not counting those championship wrestling shows from 65-66) -
Found a guy on youtube who is putting up whole shows from the 80's and 90's. Some pretty obscure stuff as well. Watching an August of 93 episode of ECW now. Caught some 89 Stampede and within 10 minutes I see what you are all complaining about in Ed Whalen. Also caught the first 2 episodes of SMW. Great stuff as prior to this I had seen only their 92 and first half of 93 shows as well as the 3 DVD's and some odds and ends matches.

I make my PTBN podcast debut to total indifference. Nikki/Charlotte/Sasha is the triple threat divas title match at Mania. Nikki wins and transitions to a feud with Sasha as they try to figure out what to do with Charlotte. The Sasha/Nikki feud blows away anything done on the main roster in divas matches for years and transitions to Bayley-Sasha by summer. Daniel Bryan leaves WWE at the end of the year and Brie leaves with him. Total Divas gets canned with her departure being the last episode. Undertaker is still planning "one last match" by the of the year. Roman Reigns throughout all of 2016 with wins over Brock and Cena at major PPV's. The AFC declines to attend the Super Bowl realizing its pwned by either Carolina or Arizona. Superman/Batman gets critically panned, poorly received by fans and forces WB to rethink its entire DCU plans.
