Triple H just announced that the Ultimate Warrior passed away
Sidebottom replied to flyonthewall2983's topic in Pro Wrestling
Bret just posted on Facebook about how Warrior was not actually a bad guy on reflection and never did any harm to him ever. It's sad so many for so many years were cruel to Warrior only to change their tune now. -
Not just saying this to be topical, but it may very well be the ending to Undertaker / Brock at the weekend. That seriously played on my brain for 24 hours. I felt like I had been kicked in the nuts. I'm such a mark

It would still be huge, just the selling point wouldn't be that of the streak (which was a huge mistake in my opinion). I outlined possible avenues above.

Yeah that always got a chuckle out of me

Wrong climate to be starting a wrestling promotion full stop if you ask me, never mind one with an early 90's logo.

Don't forget Bret, Jerry. Never forget Bret!

I remember people raving about the Benoit / Michaels / HHH at Mania as being an all time classic once it was over. To be it was a great match, but lets not get carried away...

Triple H just announced that the Ultimate Warrior passed away

Exactly, this is how I, and most, would take it. Not uncommon to hear stories of a loved one hanging on just enough in hospital to say goodbye. Whether coincidence or not, you hear so many stories like this. -

Sadly, I doubt that was the case. -

This is a huge shock. I need to revisit his speeches over the weekend. Mental timing. Absolutely stunned. Payers to his family. His line about the greatest thing him ever doing in being the Father to his children is poignant right now. -
Poor Giant Gonzalez

Would be a great idea. You could have several big stars line up to speak about him: Rock, Austin, Bret, HHH, Michaels for instance, followed by the speech of the man himself.

I don't think Sunday night was the last of the Undertaker. I still see a Cena / Undertaker match on the table. It could be built around the fact that the Undertaker thinks he is done because he lost his streak, but Cena forces him to remember he was much more than that over the last 20 so years. He could ride into Wrestlemania 31 for one last hoorar. Or something. If this is the end for Taker, I'm stunned the huge potential of a Cena / Taker money match wasn't the way to go out with the same result, but then, WWE's history is full of what I perceive to be missed oppertunites amongst all of their greatness.

It was OK, but it falls under the annoying category of mentioning old names on the mic to get something over. It's something which has plagued the IC title promos over the last few years when the likes of Cody Rhodes and commentators feel the need to name drop Steambaot, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels etc as a means to putting regard into something.

I used to post on the official ECW forum in 2000, and people didn't mind Justin. He had tenure with the company, had cracking matches working up the card gradually over a few years against the likes of Sabu, Jerry Lynn and was fresh out of the awesome Impact Players where he teared it up (convincingly) with other established acts like RVD, Mike Awesome, Raven and others. The belt was put on him coming out of the Mike Awesome fiasco as the one to have a lengthily run with it detached from the obvious booking to get out of that situation, and was done smartly by having him beat Dreamer and not Tazz. Corino was perceived as a nobody in 1999. He was a fun mid carder with Rhino (who went on to better things quicker and more realisticly) and Jack Victory in 2000, but when he won the belt, most felt it came out of nowhere. Only the summer prior he was in mid card matches getting mutilated by Jerry Lynn writing DIE onto his stomach with Corino's blood, and bumping around for Dusty. I'm not saying Corino wasn't heading in the right direction, it just came too early after a face turn, and too early in general. It didn't help winning the title in one hell of a stupid match idea (Double Jeopardy, two matches happening at one time). Which to my original point, was a time period of poor booking and bad memories for ECW fans.

Wrestlemania Predictions (It's never too early)
Sidebottom replied to goodhelmet's topic in Pro Wrestling
Great thought. I'd like to see Big Show holding a giant Andre statue, it would make a nice visual at Mania and you know it would mean a lot to the bloke. It would be a nice nod to him being THE giant of the best part 20 years. I'm all for making new stars, but some guy from NXT coming in at Wrestlemania and winning a battle royal is not the way to go. -
What a great find,. I'll sit down soon and go through everything else revealed in the Warrior suits, I imagine it's fascinating.

The same Corino who when was made champ many felt the promotion had lost its soul?
-
Jokes aside, you're spot on, he is brilliant and conveying emotion.

Too big to be little, too little to be big. They booked themselves into an awkward corner they couldn't fight out of.

Fantastic point, plus all the plugging they are made to do.

Pretty much this, and as flyonthewall below said. -

Always assumed the people behind Bloodstained Memoirs were your average money marks until I read the book David Sinnott put out. He comes across a nice guy with a sound head who's passion was making films so fair play. I say this because his book is free on Amazon right now: http://www.amazon.com/Making-Bloodstained-Memoirs-David-Sinnott-ebook/dp/B007ZQMHRG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1395433583&sr=8-3&keywords=bloodstained+memoirs -
