    NXT talk

The obvious concern here is Vince focusing on NXT, but isn't that in and of itself a larger problem? They really need Smackdown to succeed long-term (or else they're kind of screwed when that contract is up). They now really need NXT to succeed to not be embarrassed by losing to AEW. But... Vince was supposedly bringing in Heyman and Bischoff because he needed to lessen his workload? So they're going to run 3 live shows a week AND the XFL. This feels like a disaster waiting to happen.
  2. The Tag Team pilot has definitely circulated. But it'd be fun to see the full match.
  3. The setup for the Harts-Dynasty rematch would be pretty clever, if MLW weren't running another blackmail angle at the same time. https://mlw.com/2019/08/19/hart-foundation-challenge-dynasty-in-2-3-falls-world-tag-in-dallas/
  4. I actually think Tony would be great paired with Excalibur - he has all those years of experience working with Ross, who worked a very similar style where he ate up a lot of the conversation.
  5. This has been quite the couple of years for Tony.
  6. Apparently they've announced the show is being moved to the theater at MSG (which, still, holds 5600 for concerts - even if the wrestling setup is less it still seems like a big venue given the demand).
  7. I feel like Impact is likely to be protective with Tessa given how hard they're pushing her, similar to what they've done with Cage. On the other hand, AEW is far more likely to push her as a star than they would Cage.
  8. September 15, so they are desperately running out of time. The only thing announced (or maybe confirmed) is Tessa vs. Taya.
  9. And those ECWA shows were actually among the best because they made the top workers feel special. The guys who were comedy weren't treated as serious threats, and it created a diversity in the show that a lot of other companies struggled with. (And from a talent level perspective, AEW's comedy guys blow away the ECWA ones.)
  10. Chelsea Green and Deonna Purazzo?
  11. These guys turned Flip f'n Gordon into a giant star by telling a long-term story in BTE over the course of a year. I would assume they have a plan for Cassidy, and I'm intrigued to see it. Cassidy is a great worker, who has a lot of gears beyond the basic version of his schtick (see his match with Gresham from WM weekend, or any of the matches where a more aggressive opponent forces him to fight).
  12. And the same years TNT started a competitive prime time wrestling show!
  13. May as well go straight to Seth-Fiend.
  14. That was quite the run from the KENTA angle through the main event. The Dream Team-Suzuki-gun tag match was terrific stuff, and a great way to set up another fall challenger given that Ibushi had one of the wins over Okada. I think Ibushi winning from the champ's block makes sense when you add the other caveat that they wanted to get White to the final - they couldn't run White vs. Okada and Tana again. One of the better things about this G1 was the abundance of fresh matchups, even if they didn't all deliver.

    WWE Summerslam 2019

If Seth was capable of being sympathetic, this would actually be good.

Really fucking far. I mean, Canada loves the Harts, and there was a bit of a pavlovian pop for the start of the music, but I don't think Nattie's the for sure babyface here.
  19. I think the two main event thing for the Tokyo Dome kinda hangs over the proceedings tomorrow. Are they going to do two title defenses? If so, do they do something weird in the finish here to necessitate both guys getting WK shots? Also, the image of Ibushi getting beat down and not saved tonight made me wonder if they are setting up for someone (Omega?) to be his savior and set up something with White for the Dome.
  20. Does this new relationship they've announced with the Crash give them access to anyone interesting? Is it a backdoor way to keep booking Penta and Fenix?
  21. Fascinated to see his review, since he loved the last two. I'm watching the match now, and it's... fine? The first fall was a series of moves and kinda dull. I liked the way the intensity ratcheted up in the second fall, but there was a bit too much meandering brawling. The third fall didn't do a great job of selling the length of the match, but it was fun and creative (can't believe no one had swiped the Rocco-Scorp finish in 25 years). Might have worked better if they'd just done the weapons cage match as a one fall, 20-25 minute match?

    AEW on TNT

Yes. Same for Philly. They're running mid-size arenas in both places, though.
  23. Different set of circumstances, though. They really hadn't built a proper feud to blow off at War Games last year, and the match was a mess (albeit with some interesting booking ideas). I haven't loved the Contra stuff, but at least the overall energy of the feud clearly justifies the match. I don't have *high* hopes for it - but a fun brawl seems very possible.
  24. I think War Chamber has potential, hopefully as the blowoff to this feud, because they seem to be out of story for it. Enjoyed DBS-Thatcher on this week's episode, that was fun. There's a lot of talent out there, but not a ton of draws. I think all these companies will be fine in terms of putting on a reasonably enjoyable show, but it's going to be a real struggle to get people to pay money for PPVs or even follow week to week.
  25. ROH switched up the TV format this week - reminiscent of a Joey Styles ECW Arena post-show wrap up episode style. Clips from matches, lots of promos, a significantly faster pace overall. Not sure it solves the overall problem of flat booking, but the show was much more watchable.
