  1. CODY - Having an all-time classic promo year, and has put together some exceptional matches too. El Phantasmo - Has grown on me a ton over the last few months, his smarmy heel act is great and he can really bring it in big matches. Suzuki-Gun - Archer has been amazing these last few months, and he and Suzuki as a team not only bring the violence but also the two best theme songs in New Japan. Still enjoy me some ZSJ and Taichi too. Hikaru Shida - Next footage binge for sure. Tessa B - The best thing about three different promotions I watch semi-regularly.
  2. I don't think he'd still be working MLW if he didn't have a contract with them. He'll be working there as long as the length of that deal (unless AEW decides they want to pay MLW to get him out of it).
  3. Amazing how the crowd will absolutely cheer a babyface against the Fiend if they like the babyface.
  4. MJF wasn't at the Orlando taping because it was the same day as Full Gear. He is booked for the NYC show in a couple of weeks.
  5. That article is stiff. Terrible look for ROH. (I'm presuming the wrestler who was finally pulled because of concussions is TK O'Ryan?)
  6. That would indeed be Nealon. He was on SNL for about a decade in the late 80s and early 90s.
  7. Kinda surprised it's that many. Last year they sold out the Hammerstein (1800) and people were so excited I had friends who flew in to see the show. Not sure people I know in the Baltimore/DC area are even planning on attending this one.
  8. So what streaming service do I need to watch a bunch of Hikaru Shida matches? She's awesome.
  9. What possible procedure is required here other than, like, listening to the commentary while editing the show?
  10. They are... I've been at outside events with the AEW guys where Atlas is there.
  11. The only full match I've really enjoyed at an "I'd recommend that" level was the intra-Suzuki-gun match from Sunday's show. That was a lot of fun. I've watched the Cabana/Yano matches, and they've been reasonably fun. Some funny finishes, but the body of the matches have been merely okay. Agreed that NJ could use a couple more of these teams to become regular entities and really gel. Maybe Finlay and Juice? Or Ishii and Yoshi-hashi? It also always feels like a missed opportunity that they don't pair ZSJ and Suzuki for the tournament, since they've been so great together in Rev Pro.
  12. He can! Will be interesting to see that eventual match with Cody, as MJF hasn't really been put in the position where he has to deliver big money matches, even on the indies.
  13. Finally finished the PPV this morning. Good show, reminded me a lot of the Impact PPVs from the last year in that they built all the matches in at least some way and then paid them off fairly well. Nothing I really loved, but a lot to like. Definitely got me a bit more hyped to see where they're going with the TV the next few weeks.
  14. I think it was the way they've done the angle, where they just had everyone say they wanted it until... well, they just sort of agreed. There's no impetus for it, other than WK is two days and Naito said it'd be a cool idea. I also think they're in a bit of a corner here - by far the most interesting night 2 main event would be Naito-Okada, since they've successfully kept them away from each other for two years. But then it feels like they've just put Ibushi in the Naito space where they're waiting too long to pull the trigger.
  15. I actually watched the ROH show last night, as I was home with the baby and didn't feel like paying for MLW. It was fine, but man is there no energy around that promotion right now outside of Villain Enterprises.
  16. His point seems more nuanced, though - that security wasn't doing enough, and thus Bully "had to" make a judgment call. Now, obviously, fuck Bully Ray for how he handled it, but maybe that he felt he had to do something was a problem in and of itself.
  17. Eh, I don't love when it's literally 15 minutes of slapping each other. Ishii was great, there just wasn't much to the match. Ospreay-BUSHI was really good (lots of little creative stuff in there) and the aftermath was exceptional.
  18. I actually thought they did a pretty decent job with the Jr Tag League, even if the last day's matches weren't great. In addition to the matches above, enjoyed Birds of Prey vs. Bullet Club and RPG 3K, and Bullet Club vs. Volador/Titan.
  19. Looks like last Tuesday's episode is up.

    AEW Dark Megathread

I thought this was a really nice spot for Sonny - great in the FIP role, really entertaining chemistry with Dustin.
  21. AEW I think actually came at a very poor time for Page. He was improving through all of 2017 and 2018, but he was still just a step away from really being a top guy with his work. The last thing he needed was basically 9 months off. I think they took their shot with him in the main event spot and realized he needed more seasoning and are easing off the push the right amount to let him find his footing. (Also, if they're going to Cody-Page eventually, they will tear the roof off a joint.) On the Librarians... I think they're probably where they expected with them, which is that they're a low card gimmick that gets okay heat, enough that a crowd will pop when a babyface beats Avalon. It's more amusing than Avalon would have been on his own, and I'd wager they'll mostly be on Dark. Great use tonight, as the little bit of heat they got really set up a giant pop for Mox and a more satisfying payoff than if Mox had DDTed a pure jobber. I thought Shida and Shanna had one of the better AEW women's matches so far, really crisp. I hadn't seen Shida before, she's great.
  22. I think they're just leaning into the Crockett thing for Baltimore. Starrcast has a crazy deep lineup of JCP guys. They might bust out the actual Jim Crockett for this.

    NXT talk

The eyes of the world (or at least the wrestling world) are on you... you have to proofread your grand statement.
  24. This is one of the problems with the once a month tapings - once guys get the title, there's two options - have them do a title defense every month that isn't really built to, or do a big chase and stall the champion's momentum. Fatu's title reign, which is at like 4 months now, has basically just been a rematch with Lawlor and some multi-man matches. Lawlor had a rematch with Ki, okayish matches with Havok and the German guy... and that's all I can remember.
