Wrestling Culture Hall of Fame Episode
cheapshot replied to puropotsy's topic in Publications and Podcasts
But that's the problem, he's never going to get concrete numbers for things as it pertains to Daddy, because they simply don't exist. That's why I think the case to be made is just to forget about debating his drawing record and go for "Big Daddy is so strong in historical significance by being a house hold name that he should get in on that alone. He's to historical significance as Daniel Bryan is to in ring work. " Every other argument is getting too muddled, when the strongest argument for him might be the simplest. We do have SOME information though, such as the Wembley attendances for the three shows he headlined. Also it's known that he charged a fee of up to 50% of the house to work non Joint shows. That's a crazy number, far bigger than what Hogan got coming in to WCW. I'm not disagreeing with you, but the more things we have to throw out there, the stronger his candidacy will be. -

Really enjoyed the show guys. I cracked up when Dylan went on a rant about VOW's Joe, and how he can't be a conservative voter if he votes based on ability, as it's such a subjective area, and can't be quantified. I think in the Lucha category, like you said, it's daft to think potentially Perro Jr. will get in before V3. I also loved your points about Tommy Rich, and if his career tradgetory was the opposite he'd be a shoe in for the HoF. -

I have just watched Dragon Lee vs Kamaitachi from Jan 24th 2015. I felt for a 6 minute match, it was a whole heap of fun. (See below) It got me thinking, what are some great sub 10 minute matches? Off the top of my head, I'd go with: Hashimoto v Zangiev from 4/24/89 Tiger Mask vs. Dynamite Kid from 8/30/80 Owen Hart vs. 123 Kid from KOTR 94 6/19/94 http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xzmseo_owen-hart-vs-1-2-3-kid-semi-final-king-of-the-ring-1994_sport Daisuke Ikeda vs. Takeshi Ono from 10/26/14 KENTA vs. Ricky Marvin from 10/15/09 There's also the Lawler vs. Snowman match that was so different to anything else at the time.

I wouldn't go as far as saying "easily". I had it at **** and the KUSHIDA / O'Reilly match at ****1/4. All horses for courses though

Bret Hart vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin Sun City Superbowl [south Africa] • September 14, 1996 This was a match I've not seen before that's on the Dungeon Collection DVD. I caught it on the network last night. What was interesting, was on commentary, JR was saying this *could* be Bret's last match, as he's not re-signed and was filling in his contractual obligations, as he was on the shelf since the loss to Michaels. JR mentioned Bret doing Sinbad, and potentially doing more TV & Film work. Was this ever discussed on TV? Did this match air anywhere at the time? The match itself was fun, with both working hard. I'd go ***1/2 with this match between the two. Not a bad match, but the SS96 and WM13 matches are far superior.

I am really high on Chad Gable at the moment. I thought his face in peril selling was wonderful whilst Corban and Rhyno got the heat on him.

At the end of the show you were talking the German tournaments for CWA, and I think Kris asked if Dixon still runs camp shows with Bix saying he didn't think they did. I am pleased to tell you that Dixon is running as many as ever. El Ligero worked 4 separate shows in one day last year near Blackpool for example. -

I always think a good reference point when trying to get non Brits to understand the culture and scale of UK entertainment compared to the US is to look at music. If you look up any music tour from the 60s/70s/early80s of the biggest bands in the world, you see them selling out huge stadiums/arenas in the US, then when they get back over to the UK it's the same small theaters and halls that the wrestling was using. Just one example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Day_at_the_Races_Tour#Tour_dates . The Beatles were no more of a draw in Britain than Big Daddy, if you're looking at pure numbers. Which is obviously silly but gets the point across that there's more to the cultural impact of something than just attendance numbers. -

Big Daddy flunks at least half of the qualifications. His business practices ultimately had the long-term effect of permanently killing all professional wrestling as a viable industry in England forever. And in-ring, he's possibly the single worst wrestler that I've ever see perform on the entire nomination list. Jingus, you're spouting the same old narrative that like Keith pointed out, it just simply isn't true. -

Ah, the classic "Daddy factor". Not getting votes due to bitterness and resentment. -
