  1. Superstars and Challenge were rarely 'great'; TV but what they tended to do quite well was get a point across really well and in the minimal amount of time. Something WWE could take a look at these days.
  2. The thing I love about these shows is that I always come away having learned something new one way or another.
  3. Powerslam is more a Total Film
  4. They dont bother me...I just find them odd. Im too old to get bent out of shape by words. Just a culture shock to me.
  5. Its like Rio Ferdinand talking about 'tekkers....doesn't make it right :-)
  6. I use this in a very specific context. It's for a section where the babyface is on top that isn't the shine. Shine Heat Comeback Control is just neater than "babyface on top for no reason". I think this is my issue with it. It's a phrase that appeared out of thin air about 10 years ago and was never properly defined, so reading multiple match reviews, you're going to have conflicting takeaways over what it means. I would never think that's what a control segment is. I think in some ways it also boxes in the way people think about match layouts. Does every match have a control segment? I don't mean that sarcastically, by the way, I'm just asking. This is exactly it! Between around 2000 and last year, I had pretty much fallen completely away from wrestling, not going on forums, listening to podcasts etc. So imagine my total confusion upon my return to terms like 'shine', control' face in peril' etc.....terms I had never come across before.....I was totally flummoxed. These terms are so totally alien to me as a fan. Its like there is some desperate need to define everything...like there is some exact formula as to how a match should be structured. .
  7. I have no issue with very long matches as long as the persons involved know how to do one. That said, I think they should be very rare in a promotion - used sparingly enough that when the do happen they mean something.

  9. so true - nothing gets a crowd going like a bunch of guys the fans feel legitimately hate each other.
  10. Great to have you guys back!
  11. Watched some of 90's Series earlier...something definitely missing from the previous 3. But the star power was still crazy & the blend of teams was still impressive. Teams were full of people you could reasonably consider giving some kind of a toss about.
  12. I dont know if its nostalgia but I dont look more fondly on those 87-89 Survivor Series matches than anything which came after. The spectacle of those 20 man matches was something else. Cant say, however, that there is any Survivor Series match I could rate as above 'good'.
  13. El Hijo Del Santo is my personal favourite. His body of work is exceptional.
  14. Loved this episode...so funny! The hicks joke was boiling pizza.
  15. Oh Geez, you're not aware that standards were different 30 years ago? I know standard were different back then...thats my point....it was back then and I am surprised to see it shown on the network...on the live feed anyway.
  16. A real shock to see it it broadcast on the network!
  17. I was watching the live feed earlier and there was a Pipers Pit with Sal Bellomo who was on in the stead of JYD.....I had never seen this before and this era WWF is a time I am mostly unfamiliar with. So imagine my surprise when Piper starts hurling all kinds of racial slurs poor old Sal's way. Really took me by surprise....very uncomfortable viewing, especially with the Snuka coconut bit either just before or just after. Wrestling eh?
  18. Just watched the Meadowlands match - very heated and full of pure unbridled hatred....some I miss so much these days.
  19. I love this whole deal - the perfect pay off to Jake's interference in the retirement match between Cien Caras and Konnan one year earlier. The match itself is awful, but that really does not matter at all.
  20. I enjoyed this a hell of a lot. Nice straight forward hair v hair match.
  21. I think modern wrestling is easier to watch than a lot of what came before. That's not necessarily a good thing. I think we deal in broader strokes these days - there seems to me to be less nuance. Back in the day it felt like you had to really pay attention to a match to 'get' it all. Now that seem to not be the case, at least to me anyway. I'm not overly convinced that the passage of time equates to evolution either. Its entirely possible I am stuck in a time warp though....
  22. Im watching Clash 22 right now
  23. Thanks mate - will see what I can get hold of.
