Who should have come along at a different time or place?
topropepodcast replied to JaymeFuture's topic in Pro Wrestling
I kind of feel like Dustin Rhodes was really about 5 years too late, and the Goldust persona was about 5 years too early, if that makes any sense at all. -
Nicest person in wrestling
topropepodcast replied to Cross Face Chicken Wing's topic in Pro Wrestling
ODB is incredibly nice. Easily the nicest person in wrestling I've ever met. Just the type that would come up as a fly-in, talk with the ring crew, introduce herself to everyone, not just the talent.... just super, super nice. -
Yeah, Haetch has no shot at making my list. I don't like his pimped stuff, and generally out and out can't stand most of the other work. Having recently seen it, his main event at WM25 against Randy Orton is one of the worst Mania main events I can remember. All I could think about it was how much shit Cena-Miz takes, and how this seems to get a pass when we're talking just wretched mains. His 2000s stuff, particularly post-injury, is bad. My fandom largely waned due to his era on top. Beyond just being perhaps my least favorite wrestlers of all time, I don't see the good work. I just don't. He's a fine midcard heel bumper in the 90s, but his main event stuff... I must have blinders on.

[2009-04-05-WWE-Wrestlemania XXV] Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker
topropepodcast replied to Loss's topic in April 2009
Just had to watch it for the first time since it aired for a recent episode of the podcast. I didn't really care for it the first time I saw it, but I actually kind of hated it this time around. The match is just so... over-rehearsed that it looks silly when they're in their reversal of their 10th big move. It looks like a very, very choreographed dance as opposed to simulated fighting. There's no real escalation in the match. It's, save a few token attempts at ringwork, excess from bell to bell. The absolute worst big match traits of both men amped up to the nth degree.- 13 replies

For me, Noble's always someone I've really liked, whether it was the Jung Dragons stuff, the mini-Benoit later WCW run, his ROH stuff, the redneck-character, but, and admittedly, a lot of it might be due to opportunity, he's someone that just doesn't feel like a Top 100 guy. The output just doesn't really feel there.

A List Of Pro Wrestling Podcast Links
topropepodcast replied to cheapshot's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I might as well through my show up here. Off The Top Rope: A Pro Wrestling Podcast -
I think one was via pin, one via countout, and one DQ.

Wahoo is someone who I've only seen his later work and I've never really liked it. What are some bouts I should check out to get a better picture of him?
-
It's kind of funny with these two being mentioned, Clash 3's Rotunda-Armstrong match is really good. I just watched it for a recent episode of OTTR. Armstrong's kind of struck me as a fine hand, a good TV match guy, but he doesn't jump out at me as a Top 100 caliber guy.

Yeah, for me, Daniels didn't really put it together until fairly recently. For so long, he worked smoothly, but didn't really put any character into his ringwork. In a lot of ways, the wrestling robot thing fit. And then, the Bad Influence run being the apex of this, he finally got really entertaining. He's perhaps less fluid, but so much more expressive. He's not a contender to make my list.

Pillman is someone who would rank far higher on my Favorites list than he will on my Greatest. I want to seek out more of his early work but he's in play for the lower half of my 100.
-
He won't make my list, but I absolutely have to give him a lot of credit for the Bully run. Even when the product has been bad, he constantly puts in really solid bell to bell stuff along with great character and promo work.

Right now, gun to my head, I'd say Funk or Savage. I'll echo everyone else. There's a lot of time and a lot of wrestling to be watched.

Where can I find reliable information about Randy Savage?
topropepodcast replied to Martyn's topic in Pro Wrestling
From the Meltzer thing... Are any of these Eaton-Savage matches on tape? That sounds fucking rad. -
Best Non-WrestleMania Pay-Per-View Ever?
topropepodcast replied to JaymeFuture's topic in Pro Wrestling
I'll throw a vote in for WrestleWar '92, at least in the conversation. (How insane is that four month stretch of major shows for WCW? SuperBrawl II-Beach Blast-WrestleWar, you could even throw those Clashes from that period in there...) Three four star matches of different styles top the card, with the best War Games as the main event. -
I'd go with pre-96, and it's not that difficult to think about. What if we set the cut off even further? 1990? 1985? What's your cut off to where you'd take everything after it as opposed to everything before?
-
I watched it last month for the show, and I could not agree more. Just absolutely fucking hated it. First time I'd seen it.

Doesn't Gibson take a shot to the back of the head at GAB '91? -
You can also get the 10/20/84 Old School show from Toronto.

Does anyone know as far as when the live stuff will go up on On Demand? I'm working during Arrival. I'd like to have it available when I get home or at least by the next day.

As someone there, honestly, the reaction in the Batista match was so negative, I felt the crowd was a little burned out early on. There were some scattered chants and things, but nothing that really took over the crowd. That, and the fact that the crowd was kind of split on some of the people involved, for example, I heard a couple of people behind me, when it was just Sheamus and Cesaro ask "Who do I root for here? I like them both." I think it just honestly kind of took until the "Pussy" chant for everyone to really get on any kind of page.

The weird thing with Bryan is the amateur types haven't really gotten it right, either. Look at the results on redbubble. Unlike some of the other characters, there's not really anything great for Bryan. I don't know if he's the easiest wrestler to design for.

What are the other notable/popular wrestling message boards?
topropepodcast replied to Loss's topic in Pro Wrestling
Although it's not a traditional board, per se, Cageside Seats has, for the most part, a really good community. -

He's upcoming DLC in WWE 2K14. -
I gotta throw a mention to Steiners vs. Fujinami/Iizuka from WrestleWar '92. Iizuka just gets the HELL beaten out of him.
