[1990-11-10-USWA-Memphis TV] Interview: Eddie Gilbert
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in November 1990
I'm all for Eddie as promo man of the year. He's been killing it since he got back to Memphis. -
[1990-11-03-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Ric Flair and Teddy Long
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in November 1990
Teddy did great here, but this is so not Ric Flair. Since when did he negotiate with managers for title shots? -
[1990-11-10-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Brian Pillman vs Rip Rogers
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in November 1990
Great, great TV match that makes me wonder how many very good to great workers just never got their shot. Rogers should have been used so much better. -
[1990-11-09-WWA-Tom Robinson Benefit] Jerry Lawler vs Eddie Gilbert
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in November 1990
Gilbert really does rise to the occasion here. It could just be Gilbert is more of a natural heel and Lawler is a natural babyface. Loved getting the full match for sure!- 11 replies

[1990-11-03-WWF-Superstars] Brother Love: Bobby Heenan
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in November 1990
This was a Hell of a lot of fun. Heenan and Brother Love really make this work by going as far over the top as they can to sell the obvious lies. -
[1990-11-10-USWA-Memphis TV] Jerry Lawler vs Terry Funk
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in November 1990
I am not a fan of putting the belt on Funk if he isn't around full-time. I would agree that Funk and Gilbert should be reversed in this situation.- 6 replies

[1990-11-03-WWF-Superstars] Ted DiBiase vs Dustin Rhodes
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in November 1990
I don't mind Ted not pressing for the win until late. It plays perfectly into how cocky he had to be going into a match against a rookie like Dustin. Great Stuff. -
[1990-11-01-NJPW-Dream Tour] Riki Choshu vs Shinya Hashimoto
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in November 1990
I'm pretty sure this matchup will never go wrong with me. Hash getting most of the offense works because Choshu's offense is ALWAYS better in short, violent bursts.- 11 replies

[1990-11-01-NJPW-Dream Tour] Jushin Liger vs Pegasus Kid
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in November 1990
Good match, but even a well-executed spotfest is going to rank pretty low for me. For what it was, there in't going to be a much better match out there.- 10 replies

I thought this was a good, fun tag. I'm not sure if it's more the point Childs made, my connection to the wrestlers in AJPW is stronger, or the one G. badger made, this didn't have the underlying direction it needed, that make me think it's not overly great.

I'd definitely be interested in a Doc/Orndorff PPV match. I think the whole thing with the finishes is more because of the massive shift in pro wrestling during the late 90s. We went from mostly non-finishes in the marquee matchups to everything having a finish to keep the fans watching. Where we are at in 1990, it's very much an 80s atmosphere from a booking standpoint. Keep the TV matches non-decisive to make the house shows (or PPVs) a big deal.

[1990-10-30-WWF-Fort Wayne, IN] The Rockers vs Hart Foundation (2/3 falls)
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in October 1990
Long match that was not bad, but seemed a little half-hearted by all of the participants for a good portion of it. I was not impressed. -
[1990-10-28-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Gene Okerlund interviews fans
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in October 1990
I think it's going to be some kind of deus ex machina to wrap up all the senseless angles and turn them into something you can follow. -
[1990-10-27-NWA-Halloween Havoc] Sting vs Sid Vicious
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in October 1990
Good idea, bad execution. You know, given WCW's history of awful ideas, at least they got the damn idea right here. It seems like it would be a Horsemen thing. -
[1990-10-27-NWA-Halloween Havoc] Midnight Express vs Ricky Morton & Tommy Rich
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in October 1990
MX and Ricky Morton one last time! And they must have known it, because they really left it all out there. Please say we have all kinds of Bobby Eaton footage from somewhere on the 91 and 92 set? -
[1990-10-27-NWA-Halloween Havoc] Lex Luger vs Stan Hansen
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in October 1990
One of the better lariats you'll ever see Stateside. Luger was really good in 1990. Too bad the company killed his interest in the work by shitting all over him. -

[1990-10-27-NWA-Halloween Havoc] Rick & Scott Steiner vs Nasty Boys
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in October 1990
Two teams that need a heavyweight slugfest top really shine in a heavyweight slugfest with some structure. Nothing to complain about here, lots of hurty looking violence and bombs. This is the kind of match WCW shhould have had mroe often, seems to go right with their marketing strategy.
