One thing that stands out to me that hasn't been mentioned. Fuchi has been leading the charge on most of the outside shit for his team. Taue gets tossed to the outside and who do you think comes running into the ring to complain that Kawada and Kobashi shouldn't be messing with Taue on the floor? That's right, Fuchi.

[1991-04-19-USWA Texas] Jeff Jarrett vs Tom Prichard (Chain)
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Perfectly fine match with some really good punches thrown around and in general good work. Three problems. 1. No blood in a dog collar match. DO NOT book this stuff for ESPN tapings, okay? 2. A run-in during a dog collar match. I am trying to imagine a way you could make this work. Not coming up with anything. 3. I just watched an amazing tag match with a middle and ending that defied belief and made perfect sense at the same time. This cannot compare in any way, even if it was perfectly booked and worked.- 11 replies

Doc destroying a couple of fans at ringside pre-match was oddly fitting for what this match became. MVC mauling Hansen was absolutely glorious, and MORE for Hansen's FIP performance than what Doc or Gordy were doing. Also, I LOVE when Hansen is in the ring for MVCs control. Normally they start laying around in holds and being stupendously boring. But Hansen will not have it and fights back if there is even a whiff of "lets rest for a bit" going on. Spivey carries his portion of the match off surprisingly well while Hansen recovers and sells on the apron. Once Stan is back in he's pretty much unstoppable. Gordy can tackle him to the outside all he wants, but there is no way Hansen is going to stay out of the ring long at all. Think of that "wounded animal = more dangerous" thing and then apply it to a bloody, pissed off Stan Hansen. No wonder Gordy was just trying to contain instead of actually do a whole lot of damage. Hansen's lariat is a thing of (relative) beauty and a perfect way to end the match. I am a HUGE Stan Hansen mark. I love his matches with Vader and the 2/28/93 Kawada match. I love his Kobashi matches. I love the 94 CC matches. But this match is his best performance ever in a single match. No question at all if you ask me.

[1991-04-18-AJPW-Championship Carnival] Toshiaki Kawada vs Akira Taue
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Taue really coming into his own in 91. I get why they didn't go full-bore hate because Misawa-Jumbo was coming up and they had to go "different". What they did worked really well and still got across the hate. I do like how they managed to do things this differently and still put on a good match based on their rivalry.- 19 replies

[1991-04-18-AJPW-Championship Carnival] Kenta Kobashi vs Dan Kroffat

Good for what it was supposed to be. If you're going to warm up a crowd, this is one of the better ways to do it.- 13 replies

[1991-04-06-USWA-Memphis TV] Doctor announcement / Interview: Jerry Lawler
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
After the mention on-air a few weeks ago and this, Lawler's doctor had to see a pretty good uptick in business. -
[1991-04-06-WWF-Superstars] Jake Roberts and Earthquake
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
I suppose one of the reasons they always go back to this is that most people are at least a little creeped out by snakes, if not outright afraid of them. It is something Jake really takes advantage of, face or heel. -
Imagine that, Flair and Missy have good chemistry.

[1991-04-06-WCW-Saturday Night] Lex Luger and Nikita Koloff
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
I was thinking of the Valentine segment as well. Either way, both guys are giving this 110% for not near the reaction you would hope for. Almost like 1990 killed any steam Lex might have built up.- 7 replies

[1991-04-13-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Arn Anderson
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
I get making Arn and Barry getting this kind of time given the situation. It's just odd to see the Arn, who was always Flair's go-to guy, talk like this.- 7 replies

[1991-04-06-USWA-Memphis TV] USWA fans / Jerry Lawler vs Eric Embry
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Lawler/Embry in Memphis is a great, great matchup. Free from the constraints on blood and violence they really beat the shit out of each other. -
[1991-04-13-USWA-Memphis-TV] Eddie Gilbert and Eric Embry
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Eddie's punches right off the bat were absolute gold. Then of course he gets beaten into a bloody pulp. I liked that he was still crawling after Embry and co. as we go to commercial. -
[1991-04-06-WWF-Superstars] Ted DiBiase vs Reno Riggins
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Piper and Savage leaving in disgust was a nice touch. Ted worked a nice squash here with some crisp offense. -
[1991-04-13-WCW-Pro] Owen Hart & Ricky Morton vs Greg Sawyer & Joey Maggs
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Owen with some generic agility stuff, but I would agree that you don't want him doing too much too soon. Odd that the thing that really made Pillman stand out was his intensity and Owen stood out for his execution. Yet WCW wanted to push them for their amazing aerial attacks. Okay, not odd. What is the word I am looking for? Oh, it's very WCW that they did that. -
I would echo the above statements for this. It's good, but given the participants that is the starting point and there is no reason this wasn't far, far better even if the feud had to continue.

[1991-04-13-WWF-Superstars] Funeral Parlor: Ultimate Warrior & The Undertaker
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
Savage on commentary was so incredible. Great segment all-around. -
USWA Texas is even more reliant than Memphis side on the traditional Memphis nonsense. Must have something to do with being on ESPN and having to tone down the violence/no blood. Either way, great work that gets drowned out (again) by shit booking to continue the feud.

[1991-04-13-WCW-Saturday Night] Ric Flair vs Brian Pillman
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
I don't worry about whether I think the 90 match or this one are better. I think they are both incredible and wish they had made Pillman a big time challenger for Flair so we got matches throughout the 90s. Top notch work from both and it's hard for me to think that nobody in the WCW offices took notice of how amazing Pillman has been when given the chance.- 14 replies

Great beatdown by Satanico. Not a lot more to say really.

Morton and Flair always deliver when paired off. Barry is really coming on strong of late. As mentioned above, the booking kills this, but fun while it lasts.

[1991-04-13-USWA-Memphis-TV] Jeff Jarrett, Steve Austin and Tom Pritchard
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
They are two for two this week on cage matches. Really strong roster right now means they don't have to rely on gimmicky stuff as much. Even if they do the patented Memphis heel beatdown afterwards as well as throw in ref bumps. -
[1991-04-13-USWA-Memphis-TV] Jerry Lawler vs Eric Embry (Cage)
dawho5 replied to Loss's topic in April 1991
This here looked like an incredible cage match. Both guys throwing awesome, violent strikes, Embry bleeding, those chairshots looked brutal. I am with soup, this would be the one MSC match I would want in full that I've seen so far.
