I rewatched Magnum/Tully last night. The last five minutes are sublime. I get why it's a sacred cow. I just think there's a leap between what I saw and the match that transcends professional wrestling, as it's been described. For me it's a, "match you enjoy a great deal that other people love more."

I've always given guys the benefit of doubt when they probably didn't deserve it. Rey got suspended for testing positive for weight cutting drugs two years ago.
-
Haha fair. Brock's a freak of nature though, I don't think he's on the gas.
-
Nobody stands out as freakishy huge now. Brock isn't exactly chiseled any longer, and HHH and Batista are trim compared to where they used to be. Orton's definitely off of whatever made him swell in 2007. Weight cutting stuff is probably still prevalent. Whatever Cena takes to come back from injuries so quickly is probably bad news too.

The funniest copycat angle is when they aped Summer of Punk with Aries and it actually got over really well, so they rehashed NWO with Aces and Eights and squashed it. It was like they didn't know how to react to something they were doing working.

I totally forgot that Dylan mentioned an unexpected finish earlier in the day. If production knew, then a fair amount of people were aware in advance, if not exactly everybody.

I watched Flair vs Fujinama for the first time last week. Wasn't bored, but I wouldn't go out of my way to rewatch it. I just watched Summerslam 2002, and I sat through HBK/HHH again, even though I've seen it maybe a dozen times over the years and have soured on a lot of it. It felt like it went two hours.
-
Yeah, I wouldn't rewatch the whole thing, but youtube already has an abridged version and one with just all the mothers and mamas counted up.
-
Good point. They went really conservative with finisher-killing all night, Brock/Taker aside. It was like they saw how overboard Rock/Cena II went and resigned it in this year.

Savage/ Warrior at Summerslam rocks. I have a lot of love for the WM7 match too, but Summerslam is better.

Nancy Gracie. Lol.

I've seen that. Funk going almost completely vertical upside down for the leverage pin was awesome.

Triple H just announced that the Ultimate Warrior passed away

Bret did stick up for Warrior when Flair tried to blame him for the inner ear injury he had in 92. That was probably more about him hating Flair though. -
I remember someone on the board had an email exchange with JJ where he answered questions about the Magnum/Tully feud. He kept it totally kayfabe too, which is awesome.

I remember that ref rule causing heat on a diva for forgetting to kick out and jobbing when she was supposed to go over at a house show. I can't remember who it was or the exact circumstances.

Yeah, Cena's going to need something to do after the Bray program and before he's reinserted into the title picture. Might as well be Rusev.

I'm glad someone else shouted out Magnum/Tully. It's a perfectly fine "two dudes punching and kicking in a cage," but that was it for me. To be fair, I didn't see most of the build for it, which is supposed to be really great.

Did any newsletters report in advance that Hulk was politicking for the belt before Mania 9 or was it a total shock to everyone?
-
Rock beating Cena at 28. I was a mark and didn't think they'd run, "Once in a Lifetime" twice.
-
As a manager he'd at least get to perform and sort of be Ric Flair. The talking head gig seems to be actually making Richard Fliehr more miserable.

I just watched Mania 20, and the main didn't really hold up for me. I loved all three of them at the time, but I've cooled on HHH/HBK, and that just leaves Benoit. His presence didn't bother me, but it was difficult getting into a lot of his stuff. I actually enjoyed Eddie/Angle more.

[2014-04-08-WWE-Network] Journey To Wrestlemania: Daniel Bryan
(BP) replied to Loss's topic in April 2014
It's tough to tell where Cena's heads at. He's clearly very conscious of his spot, as he's returned probably too early from injury several times. I think he has a lot of years left if he stays healthy, and I don't know if he's even considered a WWE where he's not the ace. It could be a relief to him, or he could genuinely enjoy getting to be competitive for the position.- 16 replies

I just remembered the Warrior comic book he wrote in the 90's. It was pretty out there, especially the Christmas special. I have the first issue somewhere, I'll have to dig it up. -
Wow, I'd never considered the idea of them mirroring the first two years of Hogan's run with him as a heel and all his buddies he brought in to work with as the faces. I wonder who was the voice of reason there.
