Daily syndicated shows, like TMZ.

I knew I should've looked it up first. I knew there was a Shawn match I liked the month before Mania 96. It was with Owen, I think he swung down from the inyh set like Tarzan during his entrance.

I know it wouldn't have worked in ECW's case, but I love the idea of a promotion presented as an afternoon daily strip show.

I thought it was going to be the Leonard Cohen song...this was much better.

HBK had a lot of stuff in 96 that was OK at best, but he had the Jarrett Memphis-style match, the Diesel No DQ, and Mind Games, so it was still a pretty strong year. I think if the Iron Man match was better it could be called a great year. It also doesn't help that he was compared to Sting in some ways at the time, and Sting had way better matches with Sid and Vader a few years earlier.

Triple H just announced that the Ultimate Warrior passed away
(BP) replied to flyonthewall2983's topic in Pro Wrestling
I watched the 96 Raw they put up for Warrior week, and it made me think he may have been able to fit into the Attitude era if he'd resigned in 97. His promo starts out with the normal inane mystical stuff, but when Goldust confronts him he basically speaks the way everyone would be by the following year. It might have been Hellwig speaking instead of Warrior because of his distaste for the Goldust character to be fair. -
http://deadspin.com/1-747-year-old-wrestling-match-was-fixed-1564443256 Cool article about worked wrestling matches in Roman Empire era Egypt.

Cesaro. Big, charismatic powerhouse who can speak six languages.

They should have the Orton rematch on Smackdown or Main Event. They can get it out of the way, and it'll make them feel less like the B/C shows they are. Bryan/Orton is too overexposed for Raw, let alone PPV.

The Hogan/Bischoff era obviously did a lot of damage to TNA, but I think the build to Sting/Hogan was one of the best things I've seen them do storywise. They got a lot of mileage out of it by having Sting go heel for a year because he didn't trust Hogan, then having him be vindicated by the Hogan turn for another year leading up to it. There was some regrettable stuff too for sure (Joker Sting, Bischoff being held hostage by a bird, Mr. Anderson), but it was still better than it should have been. There isn't two years of build for anything anymore, so it's shocking that TNA of all places pulled it off even if part of it was due to Hogan's injuries.

Tex Slazenger and Shanghai Pierce / The Godwinns / Southern Justice
(BP) replied to C.S.'s topic in The Microscope
Yeah Bret had a really good match with Henry, I think on Action Zone. I thought Southern Justice had some legs as goons. It was a shame Canterbury got hurt right as that got going. -
It is one of the few matches I can think of off the top of my head where absolutely nothing looks cooperative.

I think the tide of opinion has changed on Hart/Bulldog at Wembley. Usually I see people say their In Your House match from 95 was better.

It's weird seeing Batista work random matches on Smackdown. When he first came back it looked like he'd be a special attraction and get a title run. Now they're just keeping him busy with Orton where no one can complain. Maybe the Evolution reunion will revitalize him for a face turn later. This run has definitely resembled Jericho's comebacks more than a Rock/Brock scenario.

That match is a classic for Mad Dog Vachon's leg making a run-in if nothing else.

I don't really care to see Kane/Bryan again, but Kane standing over the mask in the case was like a comic book panel and I loved it.
-
That Cena promo was his worst stuff in a while, but "nobody wants to see me get pushed again" line made me chuckle.

Meltzer mentioned at the time of Benoit's death that he never cycled off, even when he was injured or off TV. He was afraid of anyone running in to him and seeing him smaller.

I've never formed an opinion of Alicia Fox in five years of watching her on TV, but her yelling "sorry!" at the crowd after cutting off Paige's comeback was awesome. Plus Paige got to use her submission.

Poor Big E. He has to spend the whole night pensively looking at that monitor.
-
It looks like he wouldn't get royalties, but he'd get additional compensation for a number of years past the wrestling deal in an office/part timer position.
-
Someone better acquainted with the figures can say for sure, but I think the Warrior deal plus Tyson's WM deal would've roughly added up to Bret's original contract.

I need to establish a baseline because I'm out of my depth here. Who's a larger guy on the roster who's almost certainly not on a PED or AAS? Cesaro?
