Between the Sheets #12 (October 6-12, 1997)
BigBadMick replied to KrisZ's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Epic show lads. One thing that I thought of with the Flair in WWF in 1997/98 talk - it would have severely impinged WWF's ability to portray themselves as the hip, young things, and all the talk of wrestlers with their best years ahead of them, instead of behind them would have sounded ridiculous with Flair in a high profile position. -
I was watching Starrcade 89 earlier and it occurred to me that these two, for all the time they spent collectively in JCP/WCW, matched up against each other quite rarely. Thinking about it, Sting came into JCP in late summer 87, but as far as I know didn't wrestle Luger prior to Luger's face turn in December. Their next opportunity was Luger's heel turn in June 89, and - again, as far as I know - they kept away from each other until a brawl at Clash 9 and then wrestled at Starrcade. Luger's face turn and Sting's injury ended any further matches in February 90. Luger's turn in summer 91 made another match inevitable - was Superbrawl 2 the only one in this timespan? I'm less well versed in the multitude of turns and goings on from Sep 95 until March 01 - did they wrestle each other often? Nothing jumps out at me from this period.

And the hits just keep on coming!...... Great weekend of podcasts Specifically, love this timeline series lads. -
yeah, was there a reason they ended so abruptly? Last one I see listed was 'evolution of hardcore' in December 2012

Fair for Flair: a mini-series
BigBadMick replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in GWE Podcasts and Publications
I haven't watched them yet, but aren't the Taylor and Reed matches from Mid-South set well respected? Just in the top 30, I see them coming in at 16, 24, 25 and 27. Could they have been better? Genuinely curious - I'm looking forward to watching them soon. -

Have to say, Steven, I found your rant about people looking for things to be offended by (regarding fcuk) amusing in light of your little tantrum about Meltzer's 'Where are the tits?' story at the end of June..... -
I thought the comments here about Jim Ross were interesting. I had no idea he was trying to get back into WCW in '94. And the idea that he became a WWF/E institution in spite of both his own AND Vince's wishes is hilarious. When do you think he started accepting WWF as 'his' company, if he ever did?. I'd say it was when he took a more prominent role on Raw after Survivors '97.

Flair's podcast (WOOOOONation)
BigBadMick replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I've had to let a few podcasts drop out of my weekly rotation (new job were co-workers are expected to talk to each other - gasp! ) and Flair's was the first to go. I enjoyed the first few that he did, but the reasons above and my lukewarm reaction to 'his escapades' made it an easy decision. -
Just catching up on the Rumble podcast. It was reported in Power Slam at the time that the Cena-Batista double elimination was a botch, hence Vince's fury when he comes out to improvise an ending.

Any examples?

Wrestler awareness of things not in their bubble
BigBadMick replied to Loss's topic in Pro Wrestling
Agree with this for the most part, but thought it was interesting after Warrior's death that Cornette noted that WWF was about the only promotion in the late '80s that he didn't tape and watch during his days off. I could understand his aversion to some of the sillier gimmicks, but thought the tag team and intercontinental scene could have held his interest. -
Read the first few chapters. Some interesting stuff about him growing up and starting his career. Nothing to do with wrestling, but it's funny when I think that I've been reading him since 1992 and hadn't known any of that.

Really enjoying this one. It's amazing how much Mike sounds like Dylan. Put the two of them on a podcast and I doubt I could tell them apart. One thing though - any chance of time stamps? Love the WWF/Crockett/Japan stuff, but would like to save the smaller indy talk for when I've watched more of that stuff.

The ebook is out http://www.powerslamonline.co.uk/updates/164/power-Slam-Years-eBook-now-available.htm Curious to see how I feel reading this. PWO has opened my eyes to very different ways of looking at wrestling than Fin's....

' Jim Ross was booking at the very beginning of the year and the TV was laid out like it was the 1970s for a few weeks, which was fun. ' Could you explain that, Loss?

One thing that always goes against sports comparisons to me is that there's very little rewatching value in sports - as far as I know. Not a sports fan at all, but none of my friends rewatch football matches, to the best of my knowledge. In that respect I've always considered wrestling closer to drama.
