  1. Another great one. And thanks for the timestamps!
  2. I thought the comments here about Jim Ross were interesting. I had no idea he was trying to get back into WCW in '94. And the idea that he became a WWF/E institution in spite of both his own AND Vince's wishes is hilarious. When do you think he started accepting WWF as 'his' company, if he ever did?. I'd say it was when he took a more prominent role on Raw after Survivors '97.
  3. I've had to let a few podcasts drop out of my weekly rotation (new job were co-workers are expected to talk to each other - gasp! ) and Flair's was the first to go. I enjoyed the first few that he did, but the reasons above and my lukewarm reaction to 'his escapades' made it an easy decision.
  4. Just catching up on the Rumble podcast. It was reported in Power Slam at the time that the Cena-Batista double elimination was a botch, hence Vince's fury when he comes out to improvise an ending.
  5. Great stuff lads. My big takeaway from this is to get through 90s All Japan.
  6. Agree with this for the most part, but thought it was interesting after Warrior's death that Cornette noted that WWF was about the only promotion in the late '80s that he didn't tape and watch during his days off. I could understand his aversion to some of the sillier gimmicks, but thought the tag team and intercontinental scene could have held his interest.
  7. Read the first few chapters. Some interesting stuff about him growing up and starting his career. Nothing to do with wrestling, but it's funny when I think that I've been reading him since 1992 and hadn't known any of that.
  8. Really enjoying this one. It's amazing how much Mike sounds like Dylan. Put the two of them on a podcast and I doubt I could tell them apart. One thing though - any chance of time stamps? Love the WWF/Crockett/Japan stuff, but would like to save the smaller indy talk for when I've watched more of that stuff.
  9. The ebook is out http://www.powerslamonline.co.uk/updates/164/power-Slam-Years-eBook-now-available.htm Curious to see how I feel reading this. PWO has opened my eyes to very different ways of looking at wrestling than Fin's....
  10. ' Jim Ross was booking at the very beginning of the year and the TV was laid out like it was the 1970s for a few weeks, which was fun. ' Could you explain that, Loss?
  11. One thing that always goes against sports comparisons to me is that there's very little rewatching value in sports - as far as I know. Not a sports fan at all, but none of my friends rewatch football matches, to the best of my knowledge. In that respect I've always considered wrestling closer to drama.
  12. Take a look through the yearbook, Parv. There's more to 1995 WWF than Mabel, Godwinns, Adam Bomb etc.
  13. I bought a 'Best of WCW - The Hogan Years' compilation tape series years ago. The first covered July '94 to June '95. Only three matches were from '95 - Arn v Wright (Slamboree) and Pillman v Wright and Flair v Savage (Great American Bash). I've never really seen much else from the first half of the year, and can't think of anything I feel I'm missing out on (although I'm open to recommendations from here). WWF wasn't completely atrocious in 1995. I thought Bret was solid enough (v Lafitte, Hakushi, Diesel and Bulldog), and Michaels was fine. SummerSlam had at least 3 really good matches (Hakushi-Kid, HBK-Ramon, Skip-Horowitz) and Bret-Yankem and Undertaker-Kama were decent. I think WWF gets a bad rap that year.
  14. I disagree with Meltzer a lot, and it's okay to. I think the mistake most people make, and I made for a long time, is to hold his opinion as gospel. In the end his opinion is just an opinion. One that I think is crazy a lot of the time, but it's genuine and it has merit. We all have opinions that go against the grain or seem way out there. Let Meltzer have his, disagree with him plenty, but dismissing him entirely because he doesn't see eye to eye with you on a few matches is overkill. OH, sure I always took the 'its one guys lone opinion' approach. but giving this a 4.5 just seems to take the meaning out of that spell, how god damn long was it, where Meltzer didn't give 5 stars to a single WWE match. Was the gap between Austin/Bret '97 all the way up to Punk/Cena 2011? This being so close to 5 saps a lot of meaning out of that for me. What WWE matches since Punk/Cena 2011 has he given 5 stars? Just curious now that it's been brought up.
  15. I used to prefer sting-vader at super brawl 3 over 92 war games. Should rewatch to compare.
  16. What can I say, hell of a show, AGAIN! Love the way you're sprinkling in the GWE talk, yearbooks and anything else relevant as you go. Thought it was interesting that you argued all except Eaton or Koloff could get best wrestler of the match for War Games. Probably speaks to how highly charged and super heated the match really was.
  17. Any chance I'd get away with that?
  18. It's funny, I started listening to these in January '13 with a sizable backlog to get through. Nowadays they're rarer than diamonds, and every bit as valuable. Always look forward to hearing you Chad. Parv, don't feel left out - your more frequent efforts are appreciated
  19. I see what you did there Goc. Funny stuff.
  20. ....Having said all that, wrestling is a hobby. Sometimes I get hung up on how much stuff I still have on a 'must watch' list, but as long as I'm enjoying what I'm watching, when I get a chance to do so, I'm doing ok. It's an impossible dream, like trying to watch all the movies I want to. Probably better that way, too.
