  1. If Bret went to WCW in 1992 (thanks, OJ) vs guys he faced with lesser results in 97 (Dustin, Simmons, Vader), Rude, Windham, Steamboat, Sting, Pillman, Liger, Arn, Eaton, early Austin. Fuck yeah!

    Bret Hart

Bret in WCW in '92...where's that dream matches thread?
  3. You were into that, but how many of your friends were? It's a certain type of personality that's into history and what came before. I'm 36 and the majority of the people I know in the same age range have contemporary interests. They're into modern TV series and modern films whereas I stopped watching new things a decade ago. You can see it as plain as day on this board who follows the modern scene and who doesn't. There's a jumping off point for everyone and a certain type of personality that's a history buff. Also, if you're interested in the past, the internet has been a Godsend. I also have fond memories of the anticipation of buying a tape and everything. but likewise I can remember the massive amount of tapes I didn't buy because I didn't have the money or the currency rate was so bad. 99% of shit back then was unattainable or inaccessible and something you either heard or read about. Sure it was exciting if you managed to find something you always wanted to see, but it was also a pain in the arse. I wouldn't trade the internet for anything. Yes, that's true - it was a sole venture into the 70s for me in 1995, OJ. And I have a History degree On the second point - No I wouldn't take away the internet at all. My point was that I've stronger and fonder memories from my tape trading days because of the slower pace of consuming wrestling back then. Sampling bits and pieces from everywhere nowadays can't compete with that. I'm glad I got to experience both worlds. But I wouldn't change things now.
  4. Let's see. I was 17 in 1995. Took a big interest in films. Decided to find out a lot more after watching Pulp Fiction and Raging Bull that year. Devoured DeNiro's back catalogue as quickly as video rentals and tv screenings would allow. Bought one of those massive Variety books, with quick reviews on every film ever. Bought biographys on DeNiro, then Nicholson, Pacino, Hoffman....got into a real 70s kick. If I was 17 today, I think I could have acquired all this information and watched all the films much more quickly. I'm not sure I'd have the patience, or not become distracted by something else though. I reminds me of something Will said when the Network first arrived - the culture of wanting/hearing folklore about/anticipating something like, say, Great American Bash 89 was gone forever. It's just sitting there waiting for you. When you get around to watching it (or not) is entirely up to you. Something's lost in all that... Christ, I sound old.
  5. Completely agree. Very topical - 27 years since Del Boy first fell through the bar... I've gone on that rant (perhaps not as articulately) about a lack of shared cultural cache to my nephews and nieces. They hate me
  6. Not to completely derail, but could it be that there's just too many options for these 18-21 year olds? It's easier to jump from clip to clip and believe you have a sense of understanding (especially when there's 50 other things competing for your attention) than to do a deep dive. I'm 37, btw.
  7. That's what has me intrigued too.
  8. Spurned partly by the possibly v Undertaker at WM talk. The general feeling on Angle (and Michaels) here was the biggest 'holy shit!' moment when I first came to this site. I'm curious how folks feel about him now. His TNA run gets very little attention, and I'm wondering if his WWE stuff is still as polarising as ever.
  9. It was MSG 21st June '85. Finish was Hogan and Muraco struggling at the door, and Hogan walked out after punching Muraco back into the ring.
  10. Yep, sounds good to me. Maybe Chad commentating on 06/09/95?
  11. You sure Dean Malenko refereed Hogan/Funk at SNME in Jan 86? Looks awfully like Hebner to me.....
  12. You ducking me, Marty? From the thread on part 1 - Marty, I'm curious about a point you made at the end of the show. Were you saying that WWF traditionally didn't book matches differently at the beginning, middle and end of feuds? Or were you just applying that to tag matches?
  13. I read that in Power Slam, in 2008 I think. Don't believe it.
  14. Would have been intriguing though.
  15. Trish barking like a dog etc on the build to Wrestlemania 17.
  16. I've come to agree with a great deal of that. Actually, reading Fin's book last year, you get the impression he was stressed out and overworked for years. That's going to give you a negative slant on everything.
  17. See left, Parv - it looks plenty intense anyway. I see the photo was by Pete Lederberg, if Kris has him on again maybe he can inquire about any more like this.
  18. I'll listen, Brain
  19. When you mention Vader, his proposed match with Rude in 94 would have been intriguing.
  20. There's a photo of Hansen wrestling Flair in a recent Fighting Spirit mag, so it definitely happened. Suspect it was the Carolinas though.
  21. I can feel a 'pro wrestling only' post coming from Loss......
  22. Not sure if you're referring to Steamboat-DiBiase as never happening Parv, but they did meet in WWF in late '87 (remember being surprised by that reading WONs from the time) and at the untelevised KotR in 1991.
  23. Michaels entire second run could have produced a lot more of my dream matches. A little less time with HHH, and a lot less injuries, and a lot more with Punk, Mysterio (I know it happened at least twice, but a feud would have been great), Booker T, Guerrero, generally just plonked somewhere in the middle of the smackdown 6 part 2 summer of 2009 (I know, he was out injured, but still), all would have suited me nicely.
  24. Forget about it. What am I gonna do - complain that my free content isn't there when I want it?
  25. Windham.
