    Bob Sapp

Who nominated Sapp? I'd like to see a write-up or some matches pointed out for watching purposes. I only saw the guy Fight. Seemed like the kinda guy McMahon woulda signed. Probably making great green in Japan negated that though.
  2. Austin Idol seems like a guy who had everything it takes to really excel even after his accident. I know he didn't like to travel much and stayed in his comfort zone and that's fine. But even while still in his physical prime he could be hit and miss. He's like Roger Dorn in Major League or something. Unfortunately he didn't have a Jake Taylor to straighten his ass out and make him aware of the ability he had/still had. He seemed like he was always waiting for something better (not wrestling) to come along. I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong. He'd make my list of Top-100 faves for sure.

    Homicide

He won't make my list. But I'll be damned if I wouldn't of rather seen Homicide in Carlitos role vs. Cena.
  4. One hell of a thread here. Holy Shit! I think WWF shoulda signed Lord Steven Regal instead of Jean Paul Leveque. Really. Plus Finlay. In this world The Lord takes all of the spots that HHH held in his in-ring tenure prior and post DX. The Lord vs. The Rock anyone? I still sign HHH. Then Michaels, Nash, Hall, and Kid have someone to drive them around while they're FUBAR. He can even go on to form DX with Michaels and continue in that role after. Then he finds his place? Maybe Regal shacks up with Stephanie. No that's not right. Don't want to deny two people they're right to love and be loved.
  5. I always enjoyed Simmons. I'm a mark for guys who bring cred whether it be amateur backgrounds, pro, or even street. Simmons did that. I agree with you on his team with Reed. While he was never the singles worker Reed was at his peak he was on par in the tag setting with Reed. I think they are the best WCW team in 1990 beating out the Steiners. The MX were a better team but weren't profiled or even a team the entire year. I would also place them above the WWF teams you mentioned and then some. I really feel they were split to soon. I think they coulda had a face run in full in the Fall of 90 vs. Flair, Anderson, and Windham. Ya don't have to change a damn thing about them either. Maybe split them later into 1991 after they continue a face run through the first half of the year. If they get super over don't split them. Turn the Steiners cause they were heels anyway. I think after a split you may be better off keeping Simmons a heel or very rough around the edges before moving him into a series vs. Luger (who I don't think shoulda flipped in 91) in the Fall. Then maybe the face turn in 92 depending how things pan out. I think Watts blew it though with Simmons mainly because Simmons needed momentum and much more airtime + program prior to a title run. Test the waters with him against Rude or even Anderson at the time. I like Simmons a lot and will consider him no doubt.
  6. Really interested to see everyone's choices here. 1980-Ric Flair* 1981-Jerry Lawler 1982-Jerry Lawler 1983-Ric Flair 1984-Ric Flair 1985-Ric Flair 1986-Stan Hansen 1987-Barry Windham 1988-Jerry Lawler 1989-Ric Flair *This is based on Houseshows and Television I was attending/watching at the time. Flair was mixing it up in singles and tags vs. Valentine, Snuka, Stevens, Anderson (Gene), Iron Sheik, Jones, Raschke, Masked Superstar, Duncam, Piper, and Race in JCP. He tagged with Mulligan, Andre, Steamboat, Youngblood, Superstar, and Diamond. Plus he made shots in St. Louis vs. Brisco (Jack), Race, Dibiase, Von Erich (David), and Bruiser.
  7. My first exposure to Rhodes live (WWF) was in 1990 (San Francisco, CA) vs. The Barbarian if I'm not mistaken. My first exposure to Austin live (WCW) was in 1991 (Oakland, CA) vs. Big Josh (Borne). I remember Austin workin his ass off for 15+. Funny how it all kinda starts here, -10/27/91 Austin vs. Rhodes (Havoc) They're both tied together off and on in 1992. Austin worked more singles while Rhodes tagged w-Windham. -02/29/92 Austin-Zbyszko vs. Rhodes-Windham (Superbrawl) -05/17/92 Wargames -10/25/92 Austin-Williams vs. Rhodes-Windham (Havoc) Plus all the other single/tags/trios/etc. That we're aware of from 1992 WCW TV. Other singles matches in 92. -01/07/92 Austin vs. Steamboat (Worldwide) -05.01.92 Rhodes vs. Rude (Worldwide) -07.26.92 Austin vs. Pillman (Worldwide) -09/02/92 Austin vs. Steamboat (COTC) In 1993 we see Austin and Rhodes reverse roles somewhat with Austin workin tags and I believe havin a better all around year. At least more high profile w-Pillman vs. Flair/Anderson which was all to short. -04/20/93 Rhodes vs. Rude (Worldwide) -07/18/93 Rhodes vs. Rude (Beach Blast) -11/10/93 Austin vs. Pillman (COTC) In 1994 we have Austin and Rhodes on opposite sides again with interaction somewhat. Austin stands out with Steamboat. Rhodes stands out with Buck. Plus some tag matches, etc. Then WCW fucks up. I woulda really loved to see a JCP (at there booking best) booked WCW with Austin and Rhodes. Plus Cactus, Pillman, and some others. As for the remainder of there careers I have to believe Austin takes the rest of the 90's by FAR. And that creeps into the early 00's. Rhodes is up and (really) down at stages but has recovered wonderfully and really stands out among a lot of todays performers. Mostly because he's a wrestler.
  8. I've got it between Flair and Hansen. Gordy maybe 3rd. Ric Flair is still goin around the horn for the most part or what's left of it in 86. -January against Race in St Louis, and KC, Bock Winnipeg, Wahoo Orlando, and Ayala Puerto Rico, Plus Owens has Flair and Rhodes working on top in Portland and Seattle. JCP vs. Rhodes, Garvin, and a shot against Fernandez. -February against Brody in KC and Des Moines, Race St. Louis, Wahoo Miami, Bock Winnipeg, Windham Orlando (BOTB 2), Pride Miami, Rich Columbus, and Greenwood, MS. JCP vs. Garvin, Rhodes, and TA. -March against Reed, Duggan, and Dibiase. Windham Miami, Rich Greenwood, Wahoo Tallahassee, Brody KC, with Bob Brown vs. Race/Brody in KC, and Windham Daytona. JCP vs. Garvin, Rhodes, and TA. -April against Pride Miami, Bob Armstrong Columbus, MS and Birmingham, AL, and Wahoo St. Louis. JCP vs. Morton, Garvin, and Rhodes. -May against Windham Tampa and Ocala, Luger Miami, Bob Armstrong Birmingham, Oliver Portland, Garvin Seattle, Brody Joplin, Hutchinson, KC. JCP vs. Morton, Gibson, and Rhodes. -June against Slaughter in KC, Luger Miami (BOTB 3), Bob Armstrong Knoxville, Birmingham, Luger Miami, Ft. Pierce, Samoan Honolulu, and Hennig Salt Lake. JCP Garvin and a lot of tags/trios vs. Morton/Gibson. -July is the Bash run. Plus a match against Cousin Junior in KC. LMFAO. -August against Windham Tampa, Keirn Ft. Lauderdale, Bob Armstrong Knoxville, and Luger Miami. JCP Rhodes and tags. Plus Murdoch in Atlanta on 8/30 and Charlotte on 8/31. -September against Luger Daytona, Perez Jr. and Invader 1 Puerto Rico, Cooley Birmingham. JCP Murdoch, Rhodes, Garvin, TA, and Tags. -October against Keirn Ft. Lauderdale and Luger Tampa. JCP Murdoch, Rhodes, Garvin, and Tags. -November and December is JCP proper. I saw a lot of JCP live in 86. Flair was still putting out great performances. This may be the last year outside of 89 where I would give Flair WOTY honors. He comes up short in 87 and 88 as well. Although he works wonders with that shit burger Sting. Hansen has a great 86 as well. Maybe better then Flairs.
  9. Cena is the GTOAT. No need to fall into the good, bad, and ugly category. And really the ugly is the only way he would completely get is ass booed outta the building. But they don't book characters like that anymore.
  10. Cena/Lesnar and Hart/Austin are interesting comparisons. I like the Hart/Austin WM13 match a lot. I also enjoy the SS96 match. Hart/Austin was presented as a pro wrestling feud and done very well. Hart/Austin is my #1 WWF match of the 90's. It's also my #1 WM match of all-time up until Lesnar/Reigns. I think. Definitely my favorite. Cena/Lesnar almost crosses into more of a big fight feel to me as opposed to a pro wrestling feud and I think I enjoy it more because of that. If that makes any sense. Cena/Lesnar is my #1 match of the 10's. Austin and Lesnar are my two favorite pro wrestlers over nearly the last 20yrs so it's interesting to look at both those feuds.
  11. I know of the other threads. I just thought the current trend of ? vs. ? being this is Cena vs. Hart would generate some solid discussion/opinions.
  12. Won't comparing Cena to Hart though get lost if they're merged?
  13. I can see that. I'm not a fan of Hart. I can't stand the guy. I don't mean that personally because I don't know him. I just don't like the guy. I could stomach him more as a heel because that's what he was best at in my opinion. He has an arrogance about him and came across better as an asshole because of the arrogance I feel he excudes. With that said. The guy was a damn good pro wrestler and I can't ignore that. As for Cena. I had a really hard time getting into him overall right up until his second match vs. Rock. For the first time in my life I found myself rooting for Cena to literally kick the Rocks ass. I wanted Cena to make him bleed, sweat, and pay the price. Something in that second go around triggered me for the first time in his career to root for Cena. I had enjoyed a handful of his matches but something kicked in after that second go with Rock. I have to explore early Cena at this point and revisit (90's WWF crap) Hart. I'm lookin forward to Cena stuff more then Hart.
  14. I'd like to know what PWO thinks of this match-up. Use any criteria you see fit to justify your selection. I'm really curious in regards to who y'all feel is better in terms of career output in-ring.
  15. goodhelmet said it better then I could. Tenryu.
  16. Got a kick outta these two episodes. These and the UWF ones are the only shows I've listened to that aren't Austin podcasts. Enjoyed it greatly because I lived through it. One of Jr. Crocketts first biggest fuck ups though was neglecting and losing the Toronto market.
  17. I've never bothered with this promotion. I will say though considering they had a wide world of wrestling at their fingertips when they started with only one show in town they place as the absolute worst promotion in terms of business practice and execution by far. When you consider the open market(s) and resources they had they are the steaming pile of shit that the 99% say they are. I believe it was Dirty Harry in Sudden Impact that mentions the three things that you do and/or happen to shit. That's TNA. Who in the hell selected the title for the company? If you were competing with Vivid that's one thing but as part of the Pro Wrestling market. Jesus Harold Christ on a F'ing rubber crutch.
  18. Damn I really liked the pairing but no way in hell they make my list. Just not enough under the belt in terms of matches. I will say had they stayed together I think we may be talkin about another in the long line of great JCP tag-teams. I'm biased and cock sure confident when it comes to JCP tag teams and matches as I saw it front and center. Live and in color when I was in my late teens thru mid 20's.
  19. No. Everything comes across to much as a performance instead of work within the team. Then again I think The Hardy's, Dudley's, and Edge & Christian are an overrated era in terms of the tag matches they had with each other. The 3-way ladder matches they put on in no way resembled work. They were stunt shows and it showed then in real time.
  20. If he came across more natural and less robotic in his performances then I'd say he may have a shot. He performs to much and doesn't work. Though he is far from the only one. If you can actually act then performing a match will get ya by. But if ya can't act then you better know how to work.
  21. Doesn't have enough under his belt yet to place in a GWE Top-100. I like the guy. Though the ropadope clothesline spot is wearin thin. I know it's become a spot of his but please make it in small doses.
  22. It took me a bit to catch up on Lucha Underground and I'm up to date and have to say I find this to be a TV show and not a Pro Wrestling show. Don't care for it.
  23. In New-Japan the only thing I'm seeing on my tape list for 85 as far as singles matches is Murdoch and Inoki which I don't recall being anywhere near an all time great match. I must thank you goodhelmet for starting this thread because it triggered something and now I'm going on a Japan viewing spree which I haven't done in a long time. I can put away the southern rasslin for a bit. Shit I saw it all in real time anyway. I'm lovin this place.
