WWE TV 9/25 - 10/1 Tua is the tribal chief of the NFL

Dirty Dom in a match getting "This is awesome" chants, Dragon Lee getting over right away, and a match where Dom semi-cleanly without the Judgement Day, but Lee has an out too. Great segment. -
AEW TV - 9/20 - 9/23 - Grand Slam With No Apostrophes

Rick Knox was also the ref for that clip that briefly went viral last year, where Alex Reynolds got knocked out in a tag match, and his lifeless body got dragged to the corner so someone else could tag in. -
AEW TV - 9/20 - 9/23 - Grand Slam With No Apostrophes

Not only was the match not stopped, the clearly unconscious man was picked up for another piledriver. Incredible levels of incompetence -
On one hand, Nia looked to be in really good shape, which will probably be better for both her matches and her knees, and a hoss battle with Rhea could be fun. On the other hand, she properly "Dan Dubeil'ed" Rhea on that Banzai Drop, so she doesn't seem to have gotten safer in her time off.

The use of Sonny Kiss over the years has been very odd. Kiss has a unique look, seems to be a decent wrestler (definitely no worse than others they've used regularly on TV) and has the potential to appeal to a new audience, but instead got stuck in a jobber tag team with Joey Janela and then randomly turned heel in the main event of Rampage before never being seen again. It's baffling

The Beginner's Guide To British Wrestling

I attended one of those Spa Centre Darren Walsh/Brookside headlined shows in 2003, in a ladder match no less, and you're spot on about the face/heel dynamic. I remember Walsh actually won the match, but Brookside heelishly ran off with the title after the match. Tony Walsh was a bit of a minor celebrity all round in the Warwickshire/West Midlands area. He was the first wrestler I ever met in person at the ill-fated FWA show at the Coventry Skydome, where he told me that Darren was joining WWE along with Burchill, which obviously wasn't true. He didn't live far from my childhood home, which I found out when my mum (along with other members of the Kenilworth Coventry City supporters group) was invited to the Walsh residence because Tony had the seats from the Highfield Road dugout in his back garden. -
Kris Statlander made a one-off appearance on Smackdown, teaming with the future Electra Lopez to put over the Iiconics.

Danielson did ok there too ;-) I guess that's not a huge surprise, the majority of the RoH roster over the years didn't feel like the typical WWE hire. Who would have put money on Steen doing as well as he has in WWE?

One of my favourite GWE16 podcast moments was Grimmas building up the scale of GWE, all the footage people had watched, all the chat and debate...then part gleefully, part apologetically announcing his #100 was the Magnificent One.

I'd say Bray is at the same levels of bad as his father, just a different type of bad. I'd accept Bo Dallas as an answer though.

There's definitely a few - Dustin Rhodes, Randy Orton, the Usos - but I guess it's often the case that it's the offspring of very good wrestlers who seem to go into wrestling, and that can be a hard shadow to break free of. No matter how well Charlotte does, it's going to be hard to surpass her father's achievements.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4

Yeah, fingers crossed for a recovery. Not an exaggeration to say that the DVDVR reviews changed the way I looked at wrestling for the better, and the DVDVR GWE podcast with Will was great, with DEAN especially hilarious. -
Putski has always been one of those "Oh, I thought this guy was supposed to suck" wrestlers that I've enjoyed every time I've watched him. Just a fun ball of charisma and power. Didn't realise he was nominated for GWE, might see if I can make a case for him at #99, given that Iron Mike Sharpe is my working #100

Is Shanky still employed? I've not heard mention of him in forever. -
I can't see Vince's moustache without thinking of Bobby Peru from Wild At Heart.

AEW TV 4/5 - 4/7 - Are you ready for yet another HUGE announcement?
NotJayTabb replied to The Thread Killer's topic in AEW
People have rightly pointed out that Hit Row desperately miss Swerve in WWE, but the attempts at giving him his own heel stables in AEW have shown just how much they also suited his presentation too. -
Jimmy and Jey Uso I mean, we've got both Nasty Boys listed, but not arguably the best tag team in WWF/E history. To survive over 13yrs in a company that is notoriously not a tag team territory, never breaking up, constantly staying fresh to the point that they're arguably the most over they've ever been, is an incredible achievement. Work superbly as a face team or a heel team, a ton of great matches, and there's still potential for either to have a solo run if needed. Jey has already had a well-received main event slot against Roman Reigns, he could well get there again. There are other nominees who are arguably mainly tag guys, but the Usos are better than most, if not all of them. MATCHES vs The Wyatt Family (Money In The Bank 2014) vs The New Day (Hell In A Cell 2017) vs Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn (Wrestlemania 2023)

Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford have posted a video this weekend, addressing their absence from AEW last year. Basically Ford got pregnant but unfortunately miscarried. It's obviously a bit of a tough watch, though it paints TK in a lovely light when they say how happy he was for them when they told him about the pregnancy in the first place, but they say they've decided to share the story to help others who might be going through the same thing. I can't begin to imagine what they've gone through.

AEW TV 3/15-3/17 - Jade's Mystery Opponent, Max's Re-Bar Mitzvah
NotJayTabb replied to C.S.'s topic in AEW
I think it's a tricky one to balance, because I'm assuming they don't have plans to sign Matthews, so having an unknown (to most people) wrestler have a decent length match against your dominant champion, then never be seen again, would make no sense. At the same time, they'd made a bit of a big deal about who the mystery challenger would be, and Jade could probably do with working a longer match against someone as experienced as Matthews just to help with her evolution. -

WWE TV 01/23 - 01/29 Fist of the North Star turns 40 this year

According to Rovert on Twitter, Lacey already knew the fan beforehand and had done a podcast with him, which would make this a nice little act that makes him part of the show. Hopefully that's the case. KO gave him his shirt after the show went off air, so worst case scenario he's ended the night with a nice moment. -
Pretty sure I had Barry top 30 last time, and that was almost entirely due to his late 80s/early 90s peak, but last night I watched a West Texas Rednecks vs Rey/Eddie/Kidman match from a random Thunder, and Barry still looked great in that. He offense all looked great (all six men had great offence, made me want to do a WTR deep dive), but he also made his opponents look great too. Him bumping from a Rey hurracanrana looked really good, not awkward like you sometimes get from a big man having to sell for a much smaller opponent. Going to have to check out some late period Windham, see if this was an anomaly.

WWE TV 10/10 - 10/16 Bray Wyatt is if Rob Zombie was a box office hit

I can understand their use of Top Dolla at the moment. He's a strong personality and has a few neat power spots he can do, so he's mainly being used as a hot tag guy so the more talented guy can carry the match. Adonis feels like the guy with more long term potential, guy is pretty good, but I can also see a decent heel run for Top Dolla once he's more seasoned, purely on promos.
