  1. Brock's selling in this match was fantastic. The match told a great story, and I thought it was pretty perfect for the first match of feud that I do not think is over. Brock made Joe look like a badass, and I liked the finish. We didn't need Joe kicking out of multiple F5's. It was like a Tyson punch, he caught him at just the right moment (when Joe wasn't expecting it), and it allowed him to get the three. They both still look monsters coming out of it. I'm hoping we get the rematch at Summerslam, but I could see it being moved around. We'll see...
  2. This interview is incredible. I agree, this has to be one of the most underrated interviews from a historical standpoint. I recently watched the Savage collection on the Network, and this interview isn't mentioned. I can't remember if it made any of his DVD's or not. Either way, it's great. It's cool, because to this point, he's pretty much the MVP of WWF programming and he hasn't even wrestled since WrestleMania.
  3. I'm surprised we didn't get some color after Windham drove Murodch's head into the post and starting biting the forehead. I love Murdoch here, and Windham's athleticism really did shine through. This a great match. I guess he was only there around a year, but this coupled with some of the tags I've seen makes for a really solid run (for one year). I think the bump Sleeze mentioned is the same one that really impressed me. Windham is knocked into the ropes, so he's selling he's almost knocked out from Murdoch's blow, so he sort of slides on his back over the top and impressively lands on the back of neck and shoulders on the apron. The he falls to floor. It's pretty awesome.
  4. Yeah man, I finally got around to watching this match last night and really enjoyed it. I loved ZSJ's focused, and super painful looking limbwork. He was tearing that left arm up. Juice DID sell it very well. This was a really good match. The night of the event, I watched the matches prior to this, and I wasn't really feeling them at all. They just weren't my thing, so I'm glad I picked back up on the show here last night. I plan on finishing the rest tonight and watching night 2 on AXS tonight as well.
  5. For as long as it lasted, this match ruled. I was pretty excited for it when I saw the names. I loved the Murdoch and Arn interaction, and decimation of Arn's left arm. I would have liked to have seen a long battle between these two teams. Good stiff punching here, and I kind of laughed when Murdoch said something like "come on in here boy!" to Larry Z, and Larry shouted something smart back at him in his Larry Z screaming tone. Anyways, fun short matchup.
  6. Call me odd, but I enjoyed this match. You get Teddy heeling it up to the crowd to start it off, and a spurt of offense from Steamer. The headlock wasn't really any longer than a normal headlock in any other match, I just don't think the intricacies of the nearfalls they were working out of it were captured well due to this being house show footage. There was a small pocket of fans that chanted boring, but it didn't seem overwhelming. That kind of thing happens all the time with a headlock. They had some nice spots outside the ring, and when Ted goes to heel it up again down the line, it costs him. The finish was fine for the house show, and the fans got some pretty good action and crowd interaction from the guys. I'm not saying this is a great match or anything, but I think I would have been a pleased fan at that show. I thought it was a decent little match.
  7. Konnan's punches and strikes are awful here. Some of the punches missed their target by about 8 or so inches, and his rapid fire punches to the chest made me chuckle.

Good stuff Microstatistics! I don't have him at #1, but he'll make my top 10 for the reasons you outlined. It's nice to see someone stick their neck out for ol' HBK.
  9. Awesome! I am still debating higher on a few of those myself...
  10. Well, I might end up the high vote on everyone from this past show ha. I can't wait to hear some top 20 talk down the line and see if it influences my list. But, full disclosure, prior to this show I had ranked to #28, and here is what I have: 1. Randy Savage 16. Greg Valentine 17. Jake Roberts 18. Tito Santana 22. Ricky Steamboat
  11. Well, we found Stan Hansen for Dutch. Hansen delivers a really great dominating heel performance here. Hansen hits a lariat on Kobashi right before the bell, and he expects a three count. The best part about this is that he won't let it go. He's complaining to ref as the match goes on at least five minutes later into the match. It's great. He's grinding his boot on Kobashi's head and gets angrier when he can't collect the pinfall. Kobashi does great as the FIP. This match totally delivers in every way. I don't think this match was included in the top 500 matches of the 90's, or possibly it was one of the few I was unable to find online at the time. Either way, if it was or wasn't, I'm glad I watched it today. It will end up as one of my favorite matches of the year, and easily a MOTYC.
  12. That's a good group! I feel like I'll be the high vote on Tito. 8 of these are a lock for my list, so I'm looking forward to checking this out this afternoon.
  13. I really love Hennig's exhausted pins. Like the one from the top rope where he just falls on Bret, and the one after the samoan drop where he's portraying he's blown up. Perfect was dominating on offense by the time he went for the Perfect Plex, so I had no issue it wasn't the very end of the match. He lost his cool after Hart kicked out, so it gave Bret just enough time to recover and build his comeback. It was the Hennig show to that point, but it was great how Bret got fired up and returned the favor using the hair to toss Hennig. Love the dramatic nearfalls, Bret's expressions, Hennig's expressions & bumping, so this match has still got it. It's still great to me. Great point from garretta talking Hennig's professionalism.
  14. Wow. That "He-Man" Randy Lewis hulk-up was about the funniest thing I've ever seen. I don't even know what to say about the Dragon Master. I don't know what to say about Samantha trying semi-make out with, or possibly attempt to the remove the mask, of Humongous. The announcers aren't even excited it's Randy Lewis. First they think it is, then they are just like, "yep. it is." "sure is." No excitement. Which I don't know what they would be excited about. This will make you laugh, and also you will hope nobody else sees that you are watching this at the same time.
  15. Yeah, this was a lot of fun. I really liked the spot where Fujiwara was talking to the ref and quickly side kicked Lato in the head. Priceless.
  16. It's cool to see Shamrock in this setting, and I think his matches in this style have been the most interesting to me (of this style from 90 & 91). I think that's likely based on a sense of familiarity. I think because I'm more connected to him as a fan from following some of his UFC run in the 90's and WWF run of course. I guess that helps with holding my attention. When he gets to show off his athleticism through this style, it always looks really cool to me. I agree that this isn't as good as the great Sano match. But, I'm enjoying his run with this.
  17. Slaughter is one of my favorite Hogan opponents. They have such great chemistry, and I thought this was really great for what it was. Slaughter once again bumps for Hogan like a madman, and comes out of this with more heat. It accomplished exactly what it needed to, and I thought it was super entertaining. The Sid stuff was good, and Hogan didn't even stick around to pose. He left the ring shaking his fist in the air. This build some nice anticipation for the upcoming tag at the big show. Two thumbs up. Although, garretta does have a good point. With Slaughter likely knowing this is (probably) his last shot, why would he get DQ'd? I guess he cared more about beating up Hogan than the belt? It's a good question. I think it accomplished what they wanted to though by building heat for the PPV.
  18. I had a lot of fun watching this match. Cornette was super entertaining, and they all worked together really well. Some of the psychology behind the tags was really fun. It was fun to see Curtis out there too. Fun stuff.
  19. I feel like the footage from Vienna 1990 wasn't as clear as it was here, but I could be wrong. I was glad that it seemed to have better video quality. The standout thing here is just how good Finlay is at what he does. I agree this wasn't a great match or anything, but just watching Finlay work made this very enjoyable. Great punches and everything else that Loss laid out above. It's a good watch.
  20. I've been watching a lot of Backlund lately, so I was pretty pumped when I saw this pop up. I was let down for the most part. I thought Funk made things interesting from time to time (particularly his work on the arm of Backlund and when he put his weight on his face), but just not enough for me to say this was actually good. Bummer.
  21. What a difference context can make, because today I was super hyped to watch this again. This tournament has been incredible, and my fandom for Chono has grown exponentially because of it. That, coupled with the Muto performances recently, I was already more invested than watching it through the Top 500 matches of the 90's. I was definitely more engaged during the matwork, and I was higher on it coming out of it. But, I'll have to watch the Hash draw again, because I still think I liked that one the best! Either way, what a tournament. I think I'd put this right under the Hash draw and the Vader/Muto match as my top three matches of the month at this point. I did like this match more than Atlantis vs. Blue Panther, which was fantastic. August has been amazing.
  22. Yeah, this is pretty awesome. I loved how Muto bumped for that near-knockout blow from Vader toward the beginning. It doesn't have the war for the ages feel the Sting series has, but damn it's stiff. New Japan owns July & August of 1991, and so does Vader. GREAT match. War for the ages may be a odd way to phrase it, because they go at it. I guess I mean it's more clash of the titans than David/Goliath. I think this is another MOTYC for me.
  23. Man, both guys were great, but Chono blew me away in this. This match is one of my favorites of the year and a MOTYC for me. I thought the time limit finish on this was great. They didn't work it so obviously in a way that so many draws usually end. You might anticipate it's coming, but the work itself didn't give it away IMO. I came back and watched this a second time after finishing the tournament. I was a little distracted for the first few minutes or so the first time I watched it, so I wanted to make sure I still felt it was a MOTYC. I still do. I love the defense of Hash in this match. I also really enjoy how they each piss each other off from time to time that causes these little jolts of brutal slaps or kicks. The spot where they get so angry they both start choking each other in the corner was great. There was a time I thought Chono could have been a little more defensive. I couldn't tell if he was actually selling fatigue, or asking for more when he was letting Hash throw some kicks his way. NBD, as I thought his selling was really good and his offense super impactful. Great match.
