A very entertaining match from start to finish. Fun stuff between Wolf, AZM & Sumire to start it off, was my first time seeing Sumire in action and I very much enjoyed her character - and then Io comes in & reminds why she is one of the top wrestlers on the planet. Her segment w/ Kagetsu was terrific & overall my 2nd favorite pairing that the match produced. Kagetsu vs. Viper was also really damn good, very good David vs. Goliath wrestling in it - then HZK & Hana Kimura, holy shit were they great! Io-Kagetsu was my 2nd favorite segment of the whole thing, but HZK-Hana take the top spot, hands down. Terrific, hard hitting, intense stuff between them that was full of urgency & feel of danger. Loved it. Momo vs. Tam was a solid finale to the match, some good stuff in it, but overall it was probably the most forgettable segment of the thing in all honesty. All in all this was a super fun match. The 30+ minutes flew by. ***3/4

[2018-01-29-WWE-Raw] Asuka vs Sasha Banks
ShittyLittleBoots replied to Kadaveri's topic in January 2018
Loved how physical the match was & both women showed great swagger; Sasha in particular with some really good character work that translated to the story of the match perfectly. Great stuff. **** -
Wow, I certainly wasn't expecting a match of this quality! Loved every second of it - just an ugly heavyweight spotfest warfare sprint. MOTN. ****

[2018-01-28-WWE-Royal Rumble] 30 Woman Royal Rumble
ShittyLittleBoots posted a topic in January 2018
I thought this was super fun. Lots of women got a chance to shine - Ruby Riot looked great, Kairi Sane looked great, Mickie James looked great, Becky Lynch looked really good, Nikki Bella looked really good, Ember Moon looked great, Asuka looked great, Sasha Banks looked really great. All the surprise entrants were handled in super enjoyable fashion & all of them looked really good in the ring, too! Overall just a really well structured Rumble match. The post-match w/ Ronda coming out was quite something (that Piper jacket! ) - I LOVED Asuka slapping her hand away when she tried to go for a handshake. All in all, a really good time from start to finish! ***3/4- 6 replies

I didn't like this as much as their Dome match, but it was still really good. Great chemistry between The Bucks & RPG 3K. Fun action from start to finish w/ a really good structure & psychology. Matt f'n Jackson! Great performance from the man. ***1/2

Kassius Ohno is one of my all-time favorites. He's one of the greatest pro wrestlers ever as far as I am concerned. His Kawada color attire = 5 stars. The match however, was pretty damn dull. Worst match of his since like 2015 I'd say - I liked the beginning w/ them playing Velveteen's "I am gonna knock him out in 30 seconds!" promo into it, but after that bit was done, it got painfully boring. And it's not because of Ohno. He was good. Definitely not his best performance, but he was fine. I would say that 100% the reason for this match being as dull as it was is The Velveteen Dream. Most of the match saw him straight up dominate Ohno. His work on top was so goddamn boring & sucked the life out of the match (at least for me). It's a shame because I was actually really looking forward to this, like as I mentioned I hold Ohno in very high regard & I really liked what the Dream had to offer in his matches vs. Aleister Black & Johnny Gargano, but yeah, here his performance was a complete miss. **

Both guys deliver their career performances w/ Almas being vicious as hell w/ his offense, and John boy, while still showcasing some of that shitty indy offense of his, delivers a babyface performance to remember w/ his selling & comebacks. In some ways it resembles an indy epic, but without the worst tropes, and the tropes they go with, they actually make look GREAT. Magic in the air that night in Philly, I tell ya. ****1/2

This ruled. I thought it was structured pretty much perfectly, especially since it looks like we are going to get a big re-match between the two. Shayna dominated w/ her terrific submissions & Ember rocked the FIP role in terrific fashion. The finish was very good too, made both women look strong & set up that re-match for the future. ***3/4

This was a really well done David vs. Goliath tag battle. Loved the AOP completely overwhelming Fish & O'Reilly w/ their power in the early stages of the match. The champs were looking to be in BIG trouble until Akam tweaked his knee - that then became a big part of the Undisputed Era's attack on him, which lead to a really good FIP segment. Akam sold the good work by Fish & O'Reilly wonderfully. After he gets the hot tag to Rezar, they start to get that power move game rolling once again, but Fish & O'Reilly bust some really good counters to those, including going after that bad knee of Akam. Really good stuff all around with awesome performances from all involved. ***3/4

Great match overall, but it had the same issue that most New Japan main events do. It went on for very long & had a forgettable first third or so - once Tanahashi does the High Fly Flow where he lands directly on his bad knee though, that's when this gets amazing. Suzuki tortures the crap out of him w/ brutal submissions & Tanahashi's selling is superb; this was a clinic in that regard - milking amazing drama w/ simple, yet brutal submissions & amazing selling of those. I liked the story of MiSu refusing to go for the pin, wanting Tana to give up, but Tana refusing to do so which lead to the stoppage. I did think there was quite bit of dull stuff in it in the early stages, but once it got going, oh boy did it get going. MiSu is the best big match wrestler in New Japan right now. ****

[2018-01-23-WWE-Smackdown] A.J. Styles vs Sami Zayn
ShittyLittleBoots posted a topic in January 2018
Really good stuff. Very weird seeing Zayn work as a heel after watching him become an all-time great babyface wrestler before this heel turn, but goddamn he killed it. Thought that him working the heat on AJ was super enjoyable - he showed a nice mean streak & all of his offense looked very good. AJ was obviously great bumping & selling for him - and so was Sami when it was his turn to do that; him bumping for AJ's big moves was super fun. After Zayn works over AJ for a while, AJ gets back into things w/ his awesome strike combination thing & the match becomes more 50/50 w/ very good action. These 2 have a really good chemistry with each other. Great TV match. ***3/4 -
HELL YEAH. Rush is an absolute bastard & Cozy is the veteran babyface who is sick of this disrespectful young punk coming to his company & causing havoc w/ his antics. Also - Korakuen Hall! There really isn't a better place for a match like this. Great stuff. ****

This is super enjoyable. They wrestle it with a good, tight pace, we got a fun Goto FIP segment, very nice Shibata hot tag which gets cut off by Gallows in AWESOME fashion, really hot finishing stretch. Just really good stuff all around. ***3/4

This was just as good, if not a little better, than their G1 match from few months before. Loved the grappling in the early stages - that set the pace for rest of the match. Speaking of pace, I really enjoyed the pacing of this one; I thought it did a great job building the match to the finishing stretch, which was really good & had a nice feel of urgency to it. Great match. ****

This was great. Started off w/ a fun little mat sequence between Hideki & Sato. We quickly move into Daisuke's FIP segment & it's really great - he shows the perfect amount of fire in it & Twin Towers' work over him was fantastic. Just clobbering him with forearms, knees, kicks. Lovely stuff. Hideki's hot tag was really good too & after that we move into the finishing gear of the match, and it's awesome. Hard hitting, great double team tactics by Shuji & Sato which really helped to tell the story of them completely outclassing Daisuke & Hideki in tag action because of their way superior experience tagging w/ one another. They told it wonderfully in just 10 minutes. Great match. ****

We start things off with some really fun grappling back & forth between Thatcher & Garrini. It's good stuff, and I really liked the smile Thatcher flashed after they get up from the mat; it said "wow, this kid is pretty good". Then we get Ringkampf doing some awesome work over Hot Sauce, which eventually leads to a Thatcher FIP segment. Thatcher is one of the best FIP's in the world right now; watching him sell his ass off is always a joy. Williams & Garrini did some fantastic work over him. WALTER's hot tag was superb - he beat them up with those vicious chops, big boots & threw them around with his brutal suplexes. Fantastic stuff. From then on, the match kicks into it's finishing gear & it's really great w/ great sense of urgency to it. All around, just a really great match. ****

I won't lie, I thought this could've & would've been a little more explosive, but I am still very happy w/ what we got. Nick Gage tries to go head-to-head w/ WALTER & it ends up with WALTER just destroying him with chops & big boots. It's a really good time from start to finish. The brawl that lead to the double DQ finish & continued after the bell rang was awesome. ***1/2

[2018-01-13-EVOLVE 98] Darby Allin vs Zack Sabre Jr
ShittyLittleBoots posted a topic in January 2018
EVOLVE has been building Darby super well coming into the match. Here the match was about him trying to hang with Zack in non-flying, pure technical wrestling style - and that certainly didn't go too well for the lad. Zack pretty much destroyed him for all the match, brutalizing him w/ his amazing offense. Darby sold that fantastically, bringing the intensity & emotion w/ his body language. I thought the ending was fantastic too, and set up a potential amazing re-match between the 2. I definitely want to see that after this fantastic 1st chapter between them. **** -
Tanahashi & Shibata have an excellent chemistry with each other & this is their best match. It really felt like it was the culmination of their whole story - all their previous matches, Dome '06 (& even their matches before that), G1 '13 & '14 lead to this. There's just this great feeling of importance throughout the whole thing. It's amazing. The storytelling is top notch & the performances of both men are perfect. Shibata, as usual, smacks the crap out of Tana & Tana sells it brilliantly while busting out some really great looking offense himself. Overall it's just terrific stuff from start to finish. One of my favorite NJPW matches of all-time. ****3/4

This was so awesome. The kicks were deadly, the mat work ruled big time - Yukio Sakaguchi impressed me greatly; I already liked his performance in his tournament match vs. Shuji, but here he was even better - everything he did came with a wonderful sense of urgency. Same could be said about Speedball who also had another super strong performance. Great match. ****
-
This RULED. Shelton actually surprised me by how good his performance was. The grappling throughout the match was really great, thought it had a lovely sense of urgency to it, and the 2 just gelled super well in that regard. The grappling eventually lead to Shelton working on top, and this is where he totally surprised me; his work over Shibata was AWESOME with a big A! Him swinging Shibata to the guardrail was absolutely brutal. Best performance I've seen from him. His best match too - it's between this & the HBK one. ****
-
Not as good as their G1 match from the year before. Still really good though - Shibata gave Tana a nice beating, which Tana sold well & his comebacks were good. I thought the match was missing some urgency though, which was very surprising considering who were involved. I enjoyed it a ton, but it did not reach the greatness of their 2 previous matches because of that. The match also has a couple of absolutely incredible visuals w/ Tana's entrance being the first one; Shibata just standing in the middle of the ring, eyes closed while Tana goes to the corner behind him to do his pose was amazing. The 2nd amazing visual was Shibata's incredibly violent looking & sounding spinning backfist. That ruled. ***3/4

This was FANTASTIC. Honma went after Shibata right away, that was awesome & then Nagata tagged in - goddamn Shibata trying to fight both Honma & Nagata at the same time on their corner was badass. That was shut down pretty quickly though, as the numbers advantage was too much for Shibata. Nagata throws one hellacious looking kick to Shibata on the corner. Eventually Shibata gets the control back, and we get a great Honma FIP segment. Meiyu Tag's work over him was terrific & Honma's eventual comeback w/ those slaps & a Lariat was amazing. Nagata's hot tag was amazing as well - damn his kicks looked DEADLY in this match. The match essentially kicked off into it's finishing stretch after Nagata's awesome hot tag, and it's great. Honmania run wild; Meiyu Tag looked to be in real trouble until Honma missed that big top rope Kokeshi. Fantastic stuff. All 4 men played their roles perfectly. A bona fide tag team classic. ****1/2
