I haven't really paid much attention to PROGRESS lately but that match definitely got my attention. Might re-sub for the month just to see it.

My man!! Haven't watched it back online yet, but the Boomer/Dasher mask vs. mask in Chicago definitely felt like a MOTYC when I saw it live.

WWE TV 24/06 - 30/06 Is Ricochet a better version of Ospreay
Mrzfn replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
Must be a case of Your Mileage My Vary, I thought both came off poorly but Edge was the one I ended up muting because I was eye-rolling so hard. -
I don't check out lucha as often as I'd like, but I watched Cavernario/Mistico, Virus/Metalico, and Vikingo/Laredo all in the past month and thought all rocked in different ways, so that's pretty cool.

If you mean that idiot fan trying to grope her, I believe her comment that she didn't even notice it at the time and thanked Taya for getting her away (and obviously fuck that guy). Nothing to make me think she wouldn't be open to going back, sadly I'm sure it's not the first promotion where a fan has tried to get handsy.

From what I understand it's a pro-labor movement to try to help wrestlers succeed independently or get fair deals if they decide to sign with a big company. Don't know any details beyond that and it could easily come to nothing, but I certainly like the idea.

I'll co-sign Callihan being a big turn off for me, I know some people really like the guy but he's just not for me. Still watching through the early episodes and his feud with MVP was a real dud, and nothing he did made much sense. Like, he went to so much trouble to challenge MVP to a boiler room match, and then he acts like he's scared of even going in the boiler room. You can't have both, Sami! And then he attacks Shane Strickland (offscreen) and abruptly announces he used to be all about his friends, like Shane Strickland (whom he never mentioned or interacted with), but now he's all about money, and neither of those things jive with his character up to this point. Some of this is booking issues, to be sure, but he doesn't help anything with his delivery. Also speaking of early episodes, Low Ki taking the title off Strickland couldn't have come soon enough. I really liked Killshot in Lucha Underground, but Strickland as champion was a headscratcher. I wanted to like the guy but he seemed to be trying to be laid back and "cool" so hard that he came off downright sleepy in all of his promos. Plus he's got a bounty on his head the whole time and never once does he really sell this as a danger, he continually just walks around empty parking lots without a care in the world and getting beat up. Like, at some point you're asking for it buddy. Even with some quibbles and roster members I don't like though, I'm excited to keep catching up. I'm up to the first Battle Riot and I'm really looking forward to watching it.

I didn't think Marvez was terrible but he didn't seem to add much of anything and looked like a deer in the headlights whenever the camera was on him. He could get better with time but 3 man booths need to go away anyway. I'd be curious to hear Excalibur and JR try out as a two man team.

Or else we'll get a repeat of the Fenix incident from 2015!

I watched the first four episodes and really enjoyed it. Beyond has always had a great eye for talent and that's come across really quickly. Building around guys like Starr, MJF, and Orange Cassidy is right up my alley. Personally I'd like to see more story/character driven stuff but I realize y'all can't exactly be Lucha Underground, and I do appreciate there's some element of that present. Lack of time has stopped me from following further but I definitely intended to catch up at some point or at least tune in sporadically since I have the IWTV sub anyway.

Someone else can doubtless fill in more details than me, but the gist of it is the match had the reputation of being an almost supernatural carry job by Bret but hardly anyone had ever seen it, to the point where it was a bit of a joke that it was a "holy grail" of lost matches. People assumed we would just never see it but it surfaced recently in a completely random way, so people got excited to finally see what all the fuss was about.

Since they're working with Kong and Shida, my longshot hope is they want to recreate their awesome match from last year at some point so maybe they'll start building to it here.
-
Jericho the character has been a tremendous highlight of the DON build. We'll see how it translates to the ring but he's definitely working hard to make a big contribution.

WWE TV 05/06 - 05/13: Let's just cut 30% of all federal universities' budget
Mrzfn replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
There's probably a larger context here. If her ideas were shot down or dismissed at a previous meeting I feel like it would make more sense. -
Saw they signed Jerry Lynn as a "coach" (agent, I assume), Bryce Remsburg and Rick Knox as referees, and Angelico and Jack Evans as wrestlers. All really good pickups, I'd say.

Beyond Wrestling: Unchartered Territory on IWTV
Mrzfn replied to Superstar Sleeze's topic in Pro Wrestling
I want to strongly co-sign that Mick Moretti is awesome. Enjoyed pretty much everything in the first episode, except the unprotected chairshot to the head in the main event. David Starr really doesn't need to take that to get over, he's consistently great on his own terms. Otherwise yeah, big fan so far! -
Beyond Wrestling: Unchartered Territory on IWTV

Just started the first episode last night, digging it so far. It's a cool idea and I like Beyond, so I hope it's successful! -
I know my tastes can be a bit eclectic, but I truly don't get all the hate towards the women's match. I thought Klein did a good job bullying Mayu, and of course Mayu is always great ragdolling around and making cool comebacks. It wasn't MOTN or anything but I thought it was perfectly good. Was not a fan at all of the post match but that's another story.

Anything starting with "Joey Janela's" is a good bet, it'll have a similar feeling to the 'Mania shows. Other stuff is more Deathmatch heavy but I have heard good things about "They Said It Couldn't Be Done" from February.

I feel like Ivelisse would be a good fit for AEW is she's healthy and keeps whatever personal issues she has at bay. I heard somewhere that Fantasma is bound for somewhere besides WWE/AEW/Impact, which makes me wonder if he's going to spend some time in New Japan or ROH or both. Could have been just a rumor of course.

Ah, can't believe I missed it! I hope it goes up on wxwnow before too long, I'd really like to see it but I don't think I want to give WWN 15 bucks for the privilege of one show (yes, we are very spoiled now compared to 5 years ago).
-
I'll strongly second those shouting out the Wrestlemania III build, that was incredibly strong for all of the important matches.
-
Don't think the wXw American show is on there either. And wasn't Stardom doing a show also? Unless I'm missing them. Still, a very cool guide.

If we're talking show build instead of individual match build, I'll pitch XX as a top contender. You get: -Benoit with an epic Rumble win leading to a character motivated jump to become the wildcard in the already storied HHH/HBK feud, with strong development between the three of them from January to March. -Undertaker/Kane as a payoff for a big angle all the way back in November, with a pretty effective build from January to March considering Taker wasn't even around. -Eddie at his hottest as miracle champion against Angle fresh off a great heel turn, which was actually quietly set up as early as January and executed really well in February. -Evolution/Foley dating back to November with a really nice slow build featuring a lot of moving parts, with seeds planted even earlier in the year and some dynamite segments along the way. -Christian/Jericho, which had roots all the way back in October or earlier with the Jericho/Trish angle burning along slowly through a lot of twists and turns and Christian working first subtly then overtly as a major antagonist. -Cena/Big Show, which also built directly out of Survivor Series and incorporated a lot of different characters bits that fed into Cena becoming a bigger and bigger star. -Even Goldberg/Lesnar, which had seeds planted all the way back in November and developed really well through January and February. It fell apart somewhat after that since Goldberg stopped coming to work, but even then Lesnar carried on with some strong character stuff to the end and they did their damndest to work Austin in in a meaningful way. The event itself isn't the best Mania ever, but from Survivor Series '03 all the way up to the show itself there's a lot of surprisingly layered and meaningful build that helped the matches feel important. If they hadn't thrown on an extra hour and filled it with filler matches, and if Goldberg/Lesnar hadn't bombed, I think it'd be remembered as an all time great show.
