Totally agree on both, maybe neither would be considered truly "big" in the 80s/90s sense, but they're far from small and impress the hell out of me. Brian Cage can be very fun too, if you don't mind a bit of indyriffic-ness.

Hello all, long time semi-lurker, first time topic starter, hope it's in the right place. Earlier today I noticed Meltzer was asked if there are big men like Vader or Bruiser Brody that New Japan could add to their roster. His answer is nobody like that is around right now, except maybe Brock. I suggested WALTER as someone who is at least Vader-esque, and was told he's not like them at all. Anyway, I started this thread not so much because I thought that was weird, but rather to ask who are your favorite big men working right now, and if you think there are any good enough to step into that role. Besides WALTER, I'm fond of Shuji Ishikawa, Joe Doering, Brody King, and Josh Briggs, and that's not counting guys who are a bit shorter/lighter but look like monsters in today's smaller scene, or big WWE guys for that matter.

Main current project is a big Bobby Heenan watchlist, which I've been doing for a couple years now. Started with the meager footage of the 60s and 70s and now I'm all the way to '92. Not sure how long I'll continue now that he's done managing, but it's been so cool watching week to week WWF TV from the 80s and 90s that I will at least finish through his exit. WCW is a question mark, there would be some great stuff in that run but some shlock too, and it's surely not Heenan's finest work by a larger margin. Also keeping up with Lucha Underground and CHIKARA, and cherry picking other 2018 stuff from other promotions. Favorite stuff to follow has been wXw, Stardom, CMLL, and some SoCal indy stuff.

Sad indeed, I was loving her work the past couple years. Never heard the details of the situation so not sure how serious it was, but in Japan I gather drug stuff gets serious real fast.

I believe the guy under the Vibora mask was dealing with an injury, which is why he was suddenly dropped. Really hope his head grows back or something. With the Matanza stuff, I'm hoping it culminates in a high stakes Sacrifice match with another top star, sort of the ultimate loser leaves town match. I feel like I've heard Cobb wants to get out at some point, so that could be his out. Cueto bets on him with the gods one too many times, and he gets raptured up. It would definitely change the dynamic in the Temple.

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
Mrzfn replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I thought Sting got a lot better on the mic during his TNA run. That's kind of a low bar since he was never great in WCW but it could contribute to a more positive rep? -
You're beautiful, thank you!

Is there by chance a match listing for these anywhere?
-
I believe that's after the JBL I Quit match. He doesn't look THAT bloody during the match but I guess he just kept bleeding after the match was over?

Just let Brock put the Universal title on the line in UFC. The MMA guy can win it and never come to WWE, which is what's happening anyway.

At least his grammar improved exponentially!

I came up with 5 that I feel are at least pretty good, though admittedly I'm a big Martel mark: vs. Terry Taylor 2/19/90 WWF MSG vs. Tito Santana 4/4/90 WWF Glens Falls (forget where it aired) vs. Roddy Piper 5/13/90 WWF Challenge vs. Jake Roberts, Blindfold Match 3/24/91 WWF Wrestlemania VII (which yes, I honestly think is excellent) vs. Kerry von Erich 1/31/92 WWF MSG Obviously your mileage may vary. I don't think any are on the level of his face stuff, but I enjoy them all pretty well.

I watched it for the first time after Vader passed and loved it, and I didn't have any idea Dave said anything about it. I did get the idea from cagematch though, so maybe I was indirectly influenced. Doesn't matter to me, an awesome match is an awesome match.

Pectacular is Jessie Godderz, he's used it as his nickname for a long time but never as his ring name, for obvious reasons. I actually like the guy, he's a bit of a bump machine so he should be fun with Matanza. Yeah, loved Grave Consequences as well. Mil bursting back through the doors was as cinematic a moment as they've done in a match in recent memory, only slightly hampered by Crane pulling ridiculous faces. Ivelisse returning to beat her shitty ex to death with a hammer was spectacular.

It just seems like if you use a move so often that it's named after you, you should know how to not brain yourself and cost yourself a win while using it. I admit my dislike of Sting may be biasing me.

Guys who were with the company far longer than you remember
Mrzfn replied to flyonthewall2983's topic in Pro Wrestling
Nothing in '91 threw me more than seeing all three Orient Express members in the same match on a random Prime Time before Summerslam. Sato drops off the map after Survivor Series '90 and then suddenly reappears just for that one random match, and never again. -

Paul Roma is a weird one for me, moreso for how early he started as opposed to how late he stayed. -
I find the "scale breaking" thing silly but ultimately inconsequential, and I don't really mind what Meltzer wants to rate anything. It is weird to think that you could be in a discussion with someone who is offended if you consider Okada/Omega IV to be "only" 5 star though. Maybe that's just a sign not to talk to that person about wrestling, or at least in the context of star ratings.

She'd certainly be a great addition. Hard to imagine WWE actually signing her due to her age, but stranger things have happened I suppose. She's one of my favorite people to watch right now so should be a lot of fun.

I figure Fantasma is losing the mask for sure, out of the four involved. I could see him taking a massive payday for losing it in CMLL against Rush though.

From what I heard the Jarrett thing was a Roldan executive decision when Wanger decided to leave, whereas the rest of this stuff is hopefully a more accurate representation of what Konnan is going to be allowed to do most of the time. I know, it's AAA, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

I liked Io/Momo but nowhere on the level of top 5 in the promotion's history. Don't think it'd be top 5 for the promotion this year, for me anyway. I did love the Io/Satomura from Sendai Girls in April though, that was a real blast.

If he does have any demands, though, he'll probably never have a better time to play a little hardball.

And he just called a fan gay as an insult. Well, wasn't that fun while it lasted. -
Why, you need a sleep aid? Seriously though, I have a hard time seeing Drew as a bastion of expression character. When he had freedom to do his own thing, he was just the guy who wrestles a lot of places and is also self-righteous about it, either in an "inspiring" or cocky way depending on his alignment. He never showed me he could be compelling on a level deeper than "WWE didn't let me wrestle but now I'm wrestling!". I'm not saying he doesn't have his uses, but it's as for me now as it was when he first came around to see him as potentially "The Guy", or even in the conversation.
