That's a weird one. He always struck me as one of those Bob Ryder types. He worked closely with Hardy on the Broken videos on the production side so I'm assuming they want to do them right. Or Hardy has insisted. He's supposed to work with NXT going forward. Apparently, JB and Don Callis were supposed to be the commentary team for the next set of Impact tapings but this now goes out of the window.

Alright, finally found some time to catch up with this one. First of, I legit had no clue who those guys were before I was assigned this match so that allowed me to watch it with an open mind. I was a bit thrown off by the opening moments of the match with how the interviews were inserted and everything but once moving past that, I was OK. What struck me the most in this match is how the 3 falls were completely different in their structure. I didn't expect to see that fast of a pace in 80's lucha in the opening fall. Then, the 2nd fall was more technical and then we get the whole enchilada in the 3rd fall (no pun intended). Both guys throw everything at us, starting with the color (I'm a sucker for blood on white tights!) and both guys beat the crap out of each other for a few moments before reverting back to the fast pace of the 1st fall with topes and dropkicks and everything. I was thoroughly entertained by the referee's interaction with both Salazar & Herodes in this one and that's everything I was hoping to see from a lucha referee, even in the 80's. While I thought that certain spots were a bit botchy and awkward, it didn't take anything away from the overall experience of watching this match. I can now see why NintendoLogic said it did very well in the DVDVR thread!

I honestly don't know how long Bock will be able to put up with Larry Zbyszko but I bet this won't be too long!

I wouldn't see why he shouldn't.

World Class Championship Wrestling Jan. 1986
SirEdger replied to GeneJackson95's topic in Promotions
Boy did Eric Embry's mistakes literally bit all of them in the ass! You don't mess with the Funks! -
All set!

Whoever wins that opener in Fukuoka on February 4th, The Fantastics will have their hands full!
-
Solid card in Greensboro again! Huge win for Spike Huber over the Missing Link! Fantastic main event between Ric Flair and Mil Mascaras!
-
I like the attention the Long Riders are getting right now, being in the UWF US Tag Title picture. Given their IRL stint with Lutte Internationale as a kid, always had a soft spot for them!

I don't wanna presume of anything but if the Funks get their hands on Eric Embry before his title match for the World Light Heavyweight Championship, Chris Benoit might have his easiest title defense yet! -
Again, another solid TV building your B-crew & midcarders. I really am digging Paul Jones' Army and I got the feeling that we're gonna see a lot from them in 1986!

It's hard to imagine that Barry Windham vs Gino Hernandez is only a first round match in the King of the Ring tournament! That could easily be the finals. Also, I legit had no idea who was Bull Ganter before you picked him up and you build him up as a really solid midcard contender. Really like it.

Your show would only consist of Chicky Starr's Sports Shop and I would absolutely read the hell out of it!

I'm very much looking forward to the confrontation between the Russians and Road Warriors/Ultimate Warrior. Another rock solid show from UWF!

Just wrote my review of the match SPS gave me last week. By the way, there was a typo in the link as the match was from 1986, not 1988. Quite an enjoyable match. http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/32411-bret-hart-vs-ricky-steamboat-3886/&do=findComment&comment=5829395

[1986-03-08-WWF-Boston, MA] Bret Hart vs Ricky Steamboat
SirEdger replied to Superstar Sleeze's topic in March 1986
A big thanks to SPS for giving this match to me in the Secret Santo thread last week. I thought for mostly being a tag team specialist at that time, Bret and Ricky Steamboat gelled pretty well in this one. You can see that Bret has already developed a mentality for singles wrestling, how to build everything properly and with Ricky Steamboat's selling, Bret has looked very good in this match. Of course, Jimmy Hart being Jimmy Hart outside constantly being in the ears of Gorilla Monsoon early in the match is a little plus that I enjoyed a lot. I don't know if Vince eventually decided to use Bret as a singles star later based on this match alone (probably not) but Bret certainly gave Vince ammo into considering eventually breaking off the Hart Foundation. I always had a soft spot for tag team specialists working singles matches in that era and this is one is no exception. Also giving it *** 1/2 stars. -

NWA Lutte Internationale TV Taped at CHLT-TV Studios on January 22nd 1986, Sherbrooke, QC Broadcasted January 25th, 1986 -The broadcast team welcomed the viewers to this last episode in its current format as they hit the road next week with the first show being in Vernon, British Columbia -In the first match, The Botswana Beast squashed Braxton Jeanes & Malcolm Eaton in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match. After the match, Eddy Creatchman joined the broadcast booth for an interview and kept hyping the impending arrival of his newest monster, repeating that not even the Botswana Beast wants to be seen near him and he will wreak havoc in the entire National Wrestling Alliance. The Brain promises no one will see him coming! -A video package featuring the Fabulous Freebirds, more specifically Terry Gordy, is being shown as the Freebirds will be in Lutte Internationale for the whole month of February. Terry Gordy will make his TV debut NEXT WEEK in Vernon, BC! -That package brought NWA Canadian International TV Champion Adrian Adonis, along with his manager Paul E. Dangerously and the Nasty Boys. Dangerously says he doesn't understand why people are so excited about the Freebirds when they should be talking about him and Adrian Adonis. Adonis is the most prestigious champion they have right now - obviously ignoring Rick Martel as the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Paul E. asks if there'll be any title matches next week for the live weekly premiere. Édouard Carpentier mentions that Rick Martel will be defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Richard Charland in the main event while Armand Rougeau will be defending the Quebec Heavyweight Championship against Jimmy Snuka. Paul E says that he wants Adonis to defend his title too; after all, he's the TV Champion and it is the most prestigious title on the program. NWA Board of Directors Enforcer Bruno Sammartino comes out and says that if this is what Adonis wants, that's what he'll get. Next week, on the live premiere of Lutte TV, Adrian Adonis will defend against....JOS LEDUC! Adonis is unhappy and Paul E is freaking out a bit, hurrying his troops to the back, obviously working on a game plan! -Before the main event, the broadcast team hypes tonight's show at the CNE Coliseum with the main event featuring Magnum TA defending the NWA US Heavyweight Championship against The Great Samu. They also announce that Lutte will be returning with another show in the United States, this time at the Omni in Atlanta on February 2 and the main event will feature Armand Rougeau defending the Quebec Heavyweight Championship against Terry Gordy of the Fabulous Freebirds! The semi-main will feature Jacques Rougeau defending the NWA Canadian International Heavyweight Championship against Jos LeDuc. -In the main event, NWA World Light Heavyweight Champion Chris Benoit squared off against one half of the NWA Canadian International Tag Team Champions, Butcher Vachon. Benoit did the best he could, using his technical skills and speed to counter Butcher's experience and strength but in the end, Butcher made Benoit submit to a bearhug. After the match, both Vachons are headed to the broadcast booth for an interview but Mad Dog did most of the talking. Mad Dog says that they've been the most dominant team in Lutte in recent memory. They can hold on as long as they wish and that's what they'll do. Mad Dog Vachon makes a shocking announcement that if anybody beat them for those tag team titles, they will retire on-the-spot! That's how confident they are in their ability but they aren't going anywhere right now! The show ended with a puzzled look in the face of both Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier! À LA SEMAINE PROCHAINE SI DIEU LE VEUT!

Yeah, it turns out that I really liked that pairing as I was building my loops for January. I figured that from all 3 Los Infernales, he probably was the best "stylistic" matchup for Rick to draw some good heat in the main event. So whenever I could insert that match on a card, that's a shoe-in to please the crowd.
-
Absolutely. I like that you gave a bit of the spotlight to Hot Property on that show. That was a vintage Anderson match in the main event.

The thought of a legend like Antonio Inoki working a live event in a bar is so ridiculously entertaining!
