January 24th, 1986 Pikangikum, ON -Owen Hart beat Farmer Boy Ipo in 13:55 -Keith & Bruce Hart beat The Creatchman Family (Botswana Beast & Lord Humongous, w/Eddy Creatchman) in 43:06 -Jos LeDuc beat Satanico in 3:41 -Intern #2 beat Chris Candido in 17:43 -"Mr. Electricity" Steve Regal beat NWA Canadian International Tag team Champion Butcher Vachon in 12:03 -Bobby Fulton beat Hillbilly Jim in 2:42 -NWA World Light Heavyweight Champion Chris Benoit beat Pirata Morgan in 8:32 NWA World Heavyweight Championship, Guest Referee - Bruno Sammartino: Rick Martel beat MS-1 in 36:17 to retain. There seemed to be a tad of controversy as MS-1 claimed that his foot was under the bottom rope during the pinfall. Bruno took the house mic and told MS-1 while his decision remains final, his position as Enforcer for the NWA Board of Directors as supported by NWA President Bob Geigel allows him to book a rematch if necessary. Bruno announces the rematch tomorrow night at the CNE Coliseum in Toronto!

Haven't watched 205 Live but apparently, Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali had a really solid match in the main event. And also, a GM for 205 Live will be announced next week.
-
Same for me. Never got my match on Week 1 and he didn't review the one I had picked for him.
-
Oh, nice. I haven't watched much if any lucha libre from the 80s so this will definitely be a nice discovery!
-
For you, NintendoLogic, I'm going with some old school action from 1979; David Von Erich vs The Spoiler from the Sam Houston Coliseum! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cb_YfRFCTfk

Interesting booking decision for the finals. That's quite unexpected but I like it!
-
I'm sure the AWA Southern tag title match stole the show in Chicago!
-
Yeop, that vintage 80s feeling is very much present in your writing! Loving every minute of those brawls!
-
Yeah, once you understand the context surrounding the St-Jean-Baptiste Massacre, you fully enjoy the rivalry between the Rougeaus and the Garvins. The Loser Leaves Town Match to cap off the feud is even better than this one. Really worth the watch as well! My review of your match you picked for me should be up this week!

Ah, yes, Bill & Ted. That movie is hilarious. That's how I actually discovered Keanu Reeves lol

You're all set!

Please, don't give them any ideas. The last thing the Women's Rumble needs is a Stephanie McMahon entry.

OF COURSE, Eric Embry had to lose the money. BRILLIANT! -
So a few weeks passed by before Gino Brito heard anything from Jimmy Hart. Finally, the phone rang again and it was Jimmy. Jimmy: "Gino, baby, it's me!" Gino: "Hey, Jimmy, hadn't heard from you for a while. What took you so long?" Jimmy: "Well, you know, tying some loose ends together and some unexpected stuff came up so I took the time to settle this."" Gino: "When you say unexpected, it's good or bad?" Jimmy: "Oh, it's real good, baby. You won't believe who approached me when he heard about our project." Gino: "Who?" Jimmy: "Bret Hart himself!" Gino: "Wow! That's great news, Jimmy" Jimmy: "Sure is, baby. He said he was interested and he spoke to Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith and they wanna be part of it." Gino: "Well, that's fine and everything but we both know there is some bad blood between the Rougeaus and the Bulldogs. I don't want this to blow up in my face." Jimmy: "Water under the bridge, my friend. They assured me that everything would go right." Gino: "Well, if you say so...." Jimmy: "Look, I can also speak to a couple of other guys. Ronnie Garvin & The Fabulous Freebirds are even willing to be in this thing. Can you imagine how big Montreal can be again with those names, coupled with your local stars? You gonna stick it to Vince, baby!" Gino: "Yeah, sure...." Jimmy: "Give me a couple of extra days to finalize everything to find a couple of other guys. I'm sure you're looking to find some on your side yourself. We'll call a press conference next week to make an official announcement. How does that sound?" Gino: "OK then. We'll talk later." Just like the first time, Gino hung up with a weird feeling that something just wasn't right. Sure, what Jimmy had said that Dino Bravo, Rick Martel & the Rougeaus were interested into sticking to Vince was true; they had confirmed this to Gino via phone themselves. But still, Gino couldn't put his finger exactly on why Jimmy Hart was so eager to do something like that. Maybe the whole Bulldogs thing was eating at him a bit, fearing the worst. But deep inside, Gino knew he still wanted this to become a reality. He didn't know if he had made a deal with the devil yet but he would soon find out.

Actually, from a report that I just read, they drew 900-1000 tonight in Lowell. Crowd was legit very hot all night.

Nice treat for the fans to have Mil Mascaras wrestle on TV!

I got the feeling that Chicky Starr will have his fingerprints all over Owen Hart's attitude in the Caribbean.

As far as I remember, especially in Quebec, it was more about the manager than anything. Eddy Creatchman was such an important figure in Lutte Internationale that anybody associated with the Creatchman Family would automatically being booed and get the rub. And eventually, people smarten up. They realized that Hans Schmidt wasn't really an evil German since his accent was anything BUT German.

Rumble in the Bronx is a resounding success. What a fantastic card. Excellent cage match in the main event!

I'm learning so much from puroresu in that period by reading your series!

***This week's TV episode featured highlights of recent appearances of Lutte talents Rick Martel & the Rougeau Brothers in the AWA and their current rivalries with the Playboy's Club & the Guerreros. The 6-men tag from last night in Toronto between the Rougeaus and the Guerreros is shown as well. A bonus match featuring The Great Samu squashing enhancement talent Chaz Debenham was shown. The broadcast team announces that next week's show will be the last in its current format as they're moving to a live format on February 1st. The show will emanate from Vernon, BC and will feature Richard Charland vs Rick Martel for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in the main event!*** January 18th, 1986 Oshawa, ON -Rip Rogers beat The Botswana Beast (w/Eddy "The Brain" Creatchman) in 11:15 -Keith Hart beat Pirata Morgan in 12:57 $10,000 Bonus Match - Winner gets the bonus by retrieving the money bag suspended in the air: Bruce Hart beat Satanico in 8:24 -Brian Knobbs (w/Paul E. Yeah, that was something I was looking to do for a while but I was hesitant to pull the trigger on this when I had the Guerreros on my roster. And there was a lapse of time where I released Armand Rougeau because I didn't have anything for him and I brought him back for the Quebec Heavyweight Championship angle. Basically, you can thank rain for that because he did the groundwork for me by turning the Guerreros heel recently!

As far as I know, it never was an issue when French Canadian wrestlers worked Toronto events (or anywhere else in Canada for that matter). Vince McMahon is probably the only one who was "willing" to explore that avenue whenever he booked the Forum. There's kind of a reason why Vince never booked Hogan vs Dino Bravo for the WWF championship in Montreal. I think that at that time, the Soviet commies gimmick got so much heat everywhere in the world (or evil Orientals as well) that there wasn't really any need to go the Separatists route.

I can't stress enough how great it is to have your B-crew featured that way in house shows. Really helps building the depth of your territory!
