  1. Shit, just got home. Did I miss the tag match?
  2. I don't think any of them would beat shoe. He lives an hour away.
  3. I have been crazy busy lately with work and internet problems so I will have the next one out early this week.
  4. I thought about splitting them but then it would actually be more work for me so we go with what we have. Hell, I listen to hardcore history and those things are like 3-4 hours. Joe Rogan's show usually hits 3 hours. Not comparing my stuff to theirs but knowing it is done makes it easier to just put it out as is.
  5. That would never happen.
  6. Thank god you didn't have a ballot then bevause you arent watching the same match as the rest of us. As for Matt D's comment, you are taking Kris too literally. He is using the same hyperbole guys like myself, DEAN, Phil and others have used to describe matches that have everything they like about wrestling contained within the match. It didn't connect with you the same way. Cool. With guys I enjoy watching wrestling with, it did, and I am cool with that.

  8. Person1 * Was there a Ted DiBiase of this set? (Someone who did a lot of high-quality work but also had a ton of matches where they phoned it in?) Both Bock and Hennig had subpar matches that didn't make the cut just like Dibiase. They are the closest to Dibiase as being the ace for a long time and having tons of stuff to select from. * Do we have to re-evaluate Greg Gagne's reputation as a poor wrestler? - this was answered on the podcast.... Greg was a great tag wrestlr who was so-so as a singles competitor. * Was DeBeers better than his matches on this set would have you believe (i.e. competent, could be carried, occasionally good) or worse? - I liked Debeers matches on the set so I can't answer this. * Now that you've seen Brody sell like a champ for Blackwell, can the healing begin and the Brody hate stop? - no * Heel in peril sections: was this something distinctly AWA and why did it originate? Did it affect the viewing of the podcast members one way or another? - this happened a lot in WWF tags as well so I dnt see it distinctly AWA. * How losing the boards changed the voting results for this set, not so much in terms of the amount of ballots but if we're seeing less "hive mind" voting? I don't think anyone goes and turns in a ballot to be just like everyone else. * Rose, Somers & Sherri: just how awesome this trio was, how they came to be put together, where they rank all-time among heel tag teams, whether or not they could have made any halfway decent blowjob tag into superstars during their run together. Can we get a Doug Somers set from Will?? For one year, as good as any other tandem on record.
  9. This is the 1st draw to make #1 but the longest match to hit #1 was the New Japan 1984 Gauntlet. I also don't think it is because of a bias towards long matches. I think it was because it was the best match on the set. I am normally averse to such long matches but this one was a classic for the ages.
  10. Kevin, We already recorded the first show with a special guest. Look for it in the near future.
  11. I am posting this here as a catch all for AWA results discussion as well as a discussion on the podcast... http://placetobenation.com/good-will-wrest...s-of-the-1980s/ Will is joined by Dylan Hales of the Wrestling Culture podcast, wrestling statistician Chris Harrington from www.indeedwrestling.com and wrestling historian Kris Zellner to discuss the best matches of the AWA from the 1980s. Over three hours of audio enjoyment as we count down the Top 20 matches from the decade and discuss the greatness of wrestlers including Nick Bockwinkel, Stan Hansen, Curt Hennig, Rick Martel, Crusher Blackwell and Jumping Jim Brunzell!!! The matches discussed are a result of the DVDVR message board project conducted over the past year. Mookieghana will follow with complete results not discussed in the podcast.
  12. Holy shit... Harley as a Lannister!

    Current WWE

As much as the Bryan stuff has not been a feel good story, the Rhodes story has been really good shit.
  14. It might be the greatest wrestling gif ever.

  16. The joshi debate was interesting but it was really such a small part of the THREE HOUR podcast. I was much more excited discussing Memphis and WCW.

  18. Best way to handle that Matt is if you think something deserves a second look, put a star by it. If you think one time is good enough, you cut down having to rewatch an entire set twice.
  19. Stop and I'll ban you!!!!
  20. I am about to make a set. It wouldn't be anything to make two at the same time.
  21. You can always create a new topic instead of side tracking current ones.
  22. I tend to think that it rewards Buddy for doing more with less. When Buddy leaves, Portland crumbles. That has nothing to do with Bock. It is all about Buddy.
  23. From a footage standpoint, I'd take Buddy Rose hands down. Bock will have tons of great matches from the AWA set do well in the rankings including the #1 match. However, Buddy Rose will anchor the entire promotion of Portland when that footage is released the same way Lawler anchored Memphis. Without Buddy, there would be no Portland set. Without Bock, we would have a much weaker AWA set but it would still exist.
  24. Updated the link. should work now.
  25. My rankings for the matches... Tony Salazar vs. Herodes (3/2/84) Hijo del Santo, Ringo Mendoza y Chamaco Valaguez vs. Jerry Estrada, Fuerza Guerrera y Talisman (3/9/84) Jerry Estrada vs. Ultraman (3/2/84) Lizmark vs. El Satanico (April 1984) Solar, Ultraman y Super Astro vs. Sergio El Hermoso, Bello Greco y Rudy Reyna (2/26/84) Enrique Vera vs. Dos Caras (2/26/84)
