  1. I'm a big fan of WALTER but I feel he works way to evenly with much smaller opponents at times (such as the A-Kid match from NXT UK earlier this year) but that didn't feel as the case here as Ciampa is pretty jacked and almost as tall as him. WALTER chopping the table and tearing it in half was perfectly executed, as was WALTER's selling of his injured hand moving as he added the little touches (such as not being able to put on an STF, not being able to hold onto the bridge, having to use his other hand and clutching his own head to keep on a rear naked choke, etc). Ciampa using endless lariats to chop down WALTER (who had to rely on the ropes to stay up) was great. I get why some folks may have been bugged by Ciampa kicking out of the two powerbombs but WALTER using a chop to win puts over the brutality of them even more. Great match.
  2. Good BJJ vs. wrestler match. Martyr seems to have a wrestling background and is tiny so he has to use his speed to try and trip takedown the much bigger Garrini. He's also a dirty fighter as there's a neat moment early on with him suckering in Garrini to engage in a clinch and he rushes in with a sneaky headbutt and he uses the leverage for a trip takedown. Garrini of course has no problem tossing Martyr around with some wicked German suplexes. Both guys exchange ground and pound here with some stiff shots being thrown by both sides. Martyr gets cocky and Garrini blasts and drops him with a stiff slap that Martyr sold with a blank stare that gives the impression he was legit KO'd. The finish was great with Garrini absolutely launching Martyr and catching him in a really deep bulldog choke under the chin and Martyr taps as he's about to go out.
  3. Not a MOTYC or anything but this is a good heavyweight match that is built as a fighter with a more varied MMA fighter vs. a more one dimensional grappler. There's some odd and overly flashy strikes from Benjamin but aside from that he throws some good looking body and leg kicks, some great knees to the body and ground and pound elbows. He also pulls off a cool arm trap transition into a deep rear naked choke (that would have been a perfectly fine finisher as it was under the chin and deep). Tito on the other hand struggled on the feet and was constantly pushing to get the fight on the ground and he busted out a massive throw and he also caught an overconfident Benjamin spin kick and tapped him out with a neat heel hook.
  4. This was a really good match. First time seeing Karaoui and I was really impressed. He's a French wrestler who's apparently spent years in Mexico and he busts out some wicked lucha submissions yet he makes them look credible in shoot style ala Alexander Otsuka (obviously not as fluid as he's less experienced in the style). Makowski is always a guy who impresses me when I see him but unfortunately he usually works smaller shows which fly under the radar for the most part. As every other time I've seen him, he was incredible here. Some of his strikes here were questionable but he threw a pretty wicked knee in the clinch. There's some neat throws in this as well with Karaoui hitting a nice slam on Makowski and Makowski dishing out a beautiful judo throw. This however was very grapple heavy and developed on the mat for 90% of it and it featured some grittiness and some nifty exchanges including Karaoui's sick lucha submission attempts and Makowski even making a sharp shooter look credible in a shoot style environment. Makowski's chaos theory into an armbar ala Mighty Mouse is one of the coolest finishers in modern wrestling. Not to nitpick but there's some flaws to this, such as some questionable strikes, a weak looking crossface from Karaoui and nasty armbreaker that was basically brushed off by Makowski near the end but this was still really good regardless. I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch between these two and I definitely hope we get more Karaoui in Bloodsport matches.
  5. To me this is the best Han match up until this point in his career. A lot of Han's matches are built around a grappler vs. striker dynamic with Han being the superior grappler and until this point this is a peak of that. Vrij brings tons of personality to this and isn't afraid to pander to the crowd. Vrij also uses his strikes to keep Han against the ropes and retreating for the most part which is also beneficial to Vrij as he can easily retreat himself and force a rope break whenever Han catches one of his strikes and counters with a submission hold. Han is super fired up for this and even brings signs of "fighting spirit" which the fans totally eat up as he eats some vicious leg kicks and knees to the midsection. This also features a beautiful finishing sequence with Vrij going balls to the walls with strikes before Han catches him with a step over toehold and tapes him out immediately.

  7. This is a perfectly fine match as it's a a former freestyle wrestling turned samboist vs. a freestyle wrestler. Han is the samboist and Zaza is a freestyle wrestler. Zaza rushes Han from the start and takes him for a ride with a fireman's carry which the crowd goes bonkers for and pretty much sets the tone for the remainder of their grappling exchanges. Being neither guy is a primary striker, they are even in that department and both catch each other with some stiff strikes, notedly Han catching Zaza with a spinning back slap and Zaza catching Han in the midsection with a stiff kick. Some of the grappling exchanges were a bit exhibitionish but it led to some wild Han submissions, namely a neat looking takedown to an armbar and a brutal looking STF.
  8. This was perfectly fine, albeit a bit long and again you can see Han begin to gas in the last few minutes. Again a striker vs. grappler with Maeda being the striker and Han being the grappler. The crowd seemed to be a little more lively and that created some drama and elevated this a bit and put this a notch above their previous match from the previous year.
  9. They did this garbage last week as well with the Strowman choo-choo during his shoulder block.
  10. This was alright at best. It was worked more so as a Han submission display intro than anything else with a basic grappler vs. striker story. Han flash flying armbar and his flying heel hooks along with his handful of submission attempts looked great as you'd expect. His strikes however looked poor aside from the two slaps and he seemed gassed when he was throwing them near the end. The finishing stretch with the flying spin kick and Han getting overconfident and getting caught in a leglock was great despite this being an average match.
  11. Perfect David vs. Goliath type match with both guys playing their role excellently. This maybe the best Mark Henry match ever. He is incredible here working as a monster heel using his strength to just steamroll and maul Rey. And as we all know, it's well documented Rey is an all-time great who excels in multiple roles so you know he's great here working from underneath. Rey using his speed to chop down Henry with a variety of 619's to different parts of the body was fantastic. However that finish with Henry just sitting up from the frog splash and then just brutally slamming down Rey was picture perfect. Very good sub 10 minute TV match.
  12. Here we get our usual Drew Gulak Main Event appearance. Unfortunately it's against Humberto Carrillo again and unfortunately this is probably the lesser of their matches so far this year. This was more of a Carrillo display (more so than their previous match) and it felt kind of cold and flat. Gulak seemed somewhat uninspired, but we did get a cool flying kick counter into an ankle lock and hellacious modified vertical suplex near the finish but unfortunately it gets blown off for the eventual finish. Really wish Gulak would be featured more on SmackDown and would get paired with Daniel Bryan after WrestleMania again as he was great during that run and it never received the proper culmination it deserved.
  13. Probably an unpopular opinion because Fed bad but it's crazy to think in 2021 on RAW the WWE would be putting on such quality TV heavyweight matches between McIntyre, Sheamus, Riddle and Lashley for the most part with the occasional Strowman pop in. Getting rid of thigh slaps (or at least these folks rarely using them) is a breath of fresh air.
  14. These two have good chemistry together and have put on quality matches throughout the past 8 or so months. While this isn't on par with some of their previous matches, it's still good. The early mat exchanges are quite gritty with Sheamus just grinding his forearms in Riddle's face aggressively and Riddle catching him in a pretty deep rear naked choke that you can see his forearm clearly under Sheamus throat and Sheamus tapping his arm to let him know he needs to loosen up. Thankfully the WWE truly seems to be done with thigh slaps as now folks are more focused on putting a little heat behind their strikes and these two threw some bombs here. I'm usually not sold on big Spanish fly spots as they take forever to setup, but here Riddle just runs up the ropes and flips immediately without them taking forever to coordinate it. I wasn't big on Riddle's brief comeback as a lot of his strikes looked somewhat flimsy during that segment, but the finish with the big White Noise on the ring apron looked brutal and the finish made sense as they can build to a rematch. Not a MOTYC or anything but still another quality RAW heavyweight TV match.
  15. Gulak's Main Event run continues this week with another brief 6 minute singles match against a former 205 Live frequent opponent. It's always cool watching Gulak sporadically pop up as he always delivers. This is mostly Gulak working as a base and catching Tozawa's offense for the most part and the highlight is Tozawa running on the ring apron and then diving on top of a Gulak off the ring steps with a cannonball. There's a nasty Gulak slam on here always. Pretty easy way to spend 6 minutes.
  16. Fun, intense 5 minute mid card NXT TV match and the Karrion Kross match I've enjoyed the most and that's partly due to how good Oney is at working these. Oney's fireball brief comebacks always deliver as he brings this intense wrecking ball style offense with some nasty slaps and some wild running European uppercuts. Kross always seems timid on offense and you can tell he's always holding back, but Oney does a neat job of bumping for his 1-2 throws. Not a MOTYC or anything, but a fun TV match.
  17. Yeah, Sudairo cleaned Miyamoto's clock. Not sure this has been posted before, but here's Miyamoto putting a Tenryu on rookie levels beating on some tiny Japanese indy wrestler called Kani KING.
  18. Kazushi Miyamoto has resurfaced and is making his MMA debut tomorrow at RIZIN 27 against Tsuyoshi Sudairo who is a former sumo wrestler and now undefeated 2-0 MMA fighter.
  19. WWE continues putting on quality heavyweight matches featuring real heavyweights just throwing bombs and working extra snug on TV on a a monthly basis. This wasn’t quite McIntyre/Sheamus levels, but this was still good. The early mat work with Lashley just grounding Sheamus and roughing him up with his forearms before dropping bombs on him from the knee on belly mount was great and set the tone for most of the match. Sheamus also got some brutality in this as he was dropping some clubs on Lashley with some knee strikes on a grounded a Lashley that looked like they were going to crack his skull and some brutal 12-6 elbows that were clearly hitting Lashley in the jaw and chest as your could clearly hear the thud from these. Lashley also rushed into the post shoulder first like he was going for a tope and got caught which was a pretty wild bump. The highlight was the brutal flying knee during the last few minutes of this from Sheamus into a charging Lashley that dropped Lashley and to be honest I’m surprised didn’t KO him as it connected nearly flush on the jaw. Just a brutal match as you can see the effects of it reflected on Sheamus' body language near the end.
  20. WWE's women's main roster is better. Sasha, Bayley, Asuka, Shayna, Charlotte, etc. are much better than the AEW female roster, but the AEW female roster are given much more liberty in their matches. Britt Baker just destroyed herself in a brutal match and right after the match she spewed something along the lines of "the goal is to get 5 stars from Meltzer.
  21. After their MOTYC last week, they follow up with a No DQ match and you can't help but get excited for this only to be letdown as they can't follow up. Last week we got a stiff heavyweight match with some potatoes being thrown and this week we got an underwhelming no DQ weapon heavy WWE style brawl. Instead of relying on stiff strikes like last week, they relied on using a kendo stick. Drew took a big table bump, which was neat, but nowhere near as brutal as the big table bump Sheamus took last week where he landed viciously on the edge of the table. There was a great looking punch to the head from McIntyre which you could clearly hear connect a big knee from Sheamus, but not much else I dug here. The finish was lame as it featured a stair assisted double KO. This is obviously building to a PPV match which I hope is a standard 2/3 falls match and not a lame gimmick match similar to this one.

It seems like they were trying to get away with that: "Tony Khan says he's not sure what people expected outside actually blowing guys up."

No, even in the live phone recordings it looked hilarious.

The problem with that is that you make Kingston look like a total idiot for passing out and the commentators for acting as if Daily's Place had gotten nuked. Also, they shouldn't be taking anymore risks with explosions. They can't risk it being a total flop again and being ridiculed for it.

The Funk/Onita had the countdown for the last 5 minutes which is when the alarms kicked off. This had alarms kick off and the clock didn't pop up until the last 30 or so seconds. Not sure I'm understanding correctly, but you think the explosion did it's job here? If so, no. It was embarrassing. They can't use it as an Omega swerve as it will make King and Excalibur look like total buffoons.
