Garea and Martel weren't great cause of the benefit of hot crowds, comparison to today, or any other shit. If you watch them you'll see a great team and Garea was fucking great. And Goulet doing that spot IS fucking great. Goulet was a great wrestler. This idea that performing in front of hot 70's/ 80's crowds is some sort of non factor is nuts. "Well, sure, they had great matches and popped the crowds, but people liked anything back then so blah blah" is weak beer , bro. I've seen enough old footage to know that the crowds would often sit on their hands if the wrestling in the ring stunk.

Flair's podcast (WOOOOONation)
Johnny Sorrow replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Publications and Podcasts
The new one has JJ and Flair is eating his dinner on the air. It's really kinda gross. -
Tony Garea was an outstanding wrestler. His team with Martel was awesome. I'm not saying he's one of the best 100 ever, but to imply he was just some job guy is silly. The footage is out there.

I think Owen was a far better performer than Bret. Owen could play roles and had personality. He was by far the better actor .

The Fabs were fucking awesome. Pretty boys who will fuck you up bad is hard to pull off. And they did it the best.

Hey, anyone who went on about Gino not being "good", after the Texas set came out? You were wrong then. And after this? You all were really fucking wrong.

Not so. I make up the fake ones completely out of my head based on knowing how they wrote copy. -
I like watching Punk matches and I don't like watching Baba matches.

I just want to know which hash bar in Amsterdam Parv is at and what he ordered to make this something to think about while on vacation in fucking Amsterdam. -
Well then you're in luck. Pro Wrestling isn't a sport. Christ, all this awesomeness is now available and still some people have to find a reason to bitch about it. Fuckin' hell. Hey, if you don't like the fucking "aspect ratio", don't subscribe. And move on to the next thing you "need" to bitch about. No one is forcing you to pay for this.

"Useless" implies that it didn't mean anything or helped advance any stories, be they good or awful. A lot of you went straight to "worst". "Worst" or "awful" isn't "useless".

When Flair was asking Lex about all of his medical issues and said "What's causing all this?" I laughed so hard I almost pissed myself. -

How the fuck do you not love the Flair/ Koko match from Memphis? It's awesome and the story being told is fucking top knotch.

Great performers give the audience what they want. If I watch a Terry a Funk non squash match I better get some jelly legs.

Not liking it cause no one has "star potential" is totally missing the point. Who cares? It's supposed to be an entertaining show about these people. Now, not liking it because it's aimed at being shitty reality TV where they want everyone fighting or fucking and that's the most important aspect of it. Well, then yeah. It stinks. I'm not putting that on them because that's what America wants and loves. But watch the first season of the first Tough Enough and it almost seems quaint as far as reality TV goes. It was all about people actually learning how to wrestle. There was the bits of drama, sure. But it truly felt like a positive viewing experience where the trainers cared about the trainees and the audience didn't vote off people and challenges weren't really important. It was all about the trainers cutting people and most of the people who had to leave either suffered injuries or quit on their own.

This is the best paragraph I've read all day. The closing line is made even better by the fact that the two guys winning the handicap match are former enemies who are now probably inexplicably friends with no explanation from the "writing team" When has that happened? Seriously. Some examples of when that exact scenario has occurred in the WWE recently.

Vince Sr's Booking of Superstar Graham as Champ
Johnny Sorrow replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Pro Wrestling
So, all that research to basically come to the point that everyone already knew, the fact that Graham was planned to be champ for one year and that Backlund was going to beat him. Congrats, bro. 😃 -
The ads have been for a medic alert bracelet rip off, knee and back braces, and now Liver Pills and Super Beta Prostate. The jokes just write themselves.

I adore that ROH's main sponsor is a company selling knee braces and back braces to fat people. I might call, my knees are shit.
