~ Slaughter/ Debeers was ok. The actor was The Commandant, can't find his name. And Debeers was never the manager of the Truth Commission. My rankings: 1. Jerry Lawler vs. Curt Hennig (7/16/88) 2. Wahoo McDaniel vs. Manny Fernandez (10/15/88) 3. Wahoo McDaniel vs. Manny Fernandez (7/6/88) 4. Manny Fernandez, Teijho Khan & Soldat Ustinov vs. Robert Gibson & The Top Guns (6/12/88) 5. Sgt. Slaughter vs. Col. DeBeers (Boot Camp Match) (12/13/88) 6. Mando Guerrero vs. Pat Tanaka (6/12/88) 7.Curt Hennig vs. Greg Gagne (6/12/88) 8.Cactus Jack Manson & The Rock n Roll RPM's vs. Chavo, Hector, & Mando Guerrero (12/13/88) Will, ripping off my lines.....Thanks Kris.

Cena yelling "Come on, Danial Bryan!" and not "Come on, Danial" or "Come on, Bryan!" when they've teamed, like tonight, is terrible, unless it's some inside rib deal. -
It seemed to me that Sin Cara's biggest problem was being injury prone. As soon as he'd gain some momentum he'd get injured (or "wellnessed") and it'd halt everything. I thought Kharma was going to be awesome. They totally implied that the point was she was going to murderalize all the Barbie Dolls, but then what went down went down and that was basically it.

My Two Cents: As I was at Fiddler rehearsal from 2 pm-9:30 pm, and couldn't take part live. ~ DAMN, Diamond Doll painted on that dress. Yeah, Mondo/ Tanaka was something. Hey, given the text of the match it wasn't an Oklahoma roll it was an Oklahomo roll. Good match, LOVED the post match beatdown. ~ Khan's star did burn too bright Ustinov is like the only Russian who isn't jacked, and he actually looks like a Russian mobster on meth. I loved the ugly redheaded broad who was about to light her smoke but started cheering instead. Rice's dropkick was sweet. Man, Manny was bad ass here. Great six man, and Khan's facials rule. Post match brawl was insane. And Eric is dead fucking on about a match not always being "bell to bell". ~ Madusa and her cans in leather are A-OK. ClownMan in a Tux rules. Fuck taxes, go to Phil's wedding. ~THE HANDHELD MATCH. Lemme just start by saying that Eric and Kris declaring their love of black children is a needed sentiment in these divisive times. So, I'm not a huge fan of shaky handhelds, just one of my things. And that did annoy me a bit. But the only thing bad about this match was that it ended too soon. This was fucking great while it lasted. Two old vets who've run in the same circles for years just kicking the shit out of each other? Yes, please. And the shitting on the whole "stiff is bad" trend was good stuff. I had forgotten how great Eric is at mocking shit sarcastically. ~ "I'm Larry Nelson, bitch. And it's not gonna suck itself." Bikers? That was a Dr. Johnny Fever look-a-like convention there. The great punches discussion was good shit. Holy shit, Lawler/ Cool Curt was AWESOME. ~ I now think that a Hunter S. Thompson story about him following around Wahoo for a year in the Eighties would have been amazing. "Fear And Loathing In The Squared Circle". Christ, Eric says he wrote that paper, and you two no sell it? Oy vey. Kris, what happened was they let the hillbillies who were sitting in the cheap seats sit in the front now as they had to fill the seats. "Yeah, I killed it, Will. And I'd do it again, see?" Wahoo/ Manny KICKED ASS. And Jay Strongbow JR. got the gig because of his nose. Holy shit, don't do blow with that guy. ~ And it all comes around to Mondo's ponytail. THE CIRCLE OF LIFE!!!!!!!!!!! And we need to do group show pic of us as Man O' War. ~ I gotta go to bed. I'll check out the Slaughter match tomorrow and then rank.
-
Was it meant to be that though? I just took it as a random zombie kind of a deal, and nothing as tacky / obvious / on the nose as fallen foes. Unless I missed something on commentary? That's just how I interpreted it. Wrestling's more fun when I do that.
-
That whole "The hands of those he has sent to Hell" grasping at Taker as he rose was fucking cool as shit.

May have been when you were away for a bit. Huh, I always assumed Vince was the boss and creatively in control but that he had bookers working for him to lay out matches and even decide who wins and who loses. Now that I type that, I guess I'm thinking more of agents. I just always think about stuff like Watts being the boss of Mid South but he had bookers like Dundee and Ladd. Or Fritz being the boss of World Class, but having Hart or Mantell as bookers.
-
Will, Kris, and I were talking about this last night. Can you really call Vince a booker?

This first half of the disc was a bitch to rank. I thought every match was good to great, but so many shitty finishes in a row was rough. I normally don't give a shit about so called "bad finishes". It's Pro Wrestling, shit finishes are part of the deal, and I'll never understand where this whole "They used to have clean finishes" deal that people bitch about nowadays comes from. BUT, watching this many in a row...different story. 1. Adrian Adonis & Bob Orton Jr. vs. Midnight Rockers 2. Jerry Lawler & Greg Gagne vs. Riki Choshu & Mr. Saito 3.Original Midnight Express vs. Midnight Rockers 4. Jerry Lawler vs. Curt Hennig 5. Badd Company vs. Midnight Rockers 6. Wahoo McDaniel vs. Curt Hennig (12/27/87) 7. The Nasty Boys vs. Rock n Roll Express 8. Wahoo McDaniel vs. Curt Hennig (3/19/88) Honestly, I could change everything except my number one and two here in a blink.
-
Big Show didn't turn. He was a heel teaming with the faces to take on a mutual foe. And the only reason he didn't help Orton was because Orton tried to steal his thunder.

Only if the fucking Road Warriors run in and destroy all of them, leaving them in a pile as Iron Man is blaring.

I barely watched WCW at all during this time, but I'd try to catch some shit here and there and actually bought the PPV with the Junkyard battle. And I kinda liked the Sid as Goldberg "streak" stuff, as I just imagined that the refs were making counts because they were scared of Sid. And that the fact that he'd make up new numbers every week came off to me as Sid fucking with Goldberg by mocking him, (and the smarky voice in my head was laughing at the fact that Sid's streak was just as legit as Goldberg's made up numbers.) It was terrible TV, but I always felt like I should at least check and see what the fuck WCW was doing at the time. By that time the Monday Night Wrestling get together at my place had switched to a constant flipping back and forth between WCW and WWF to us all just wanting to watch WWF, and I'd occasionally flip.

That's right, I forgot all about that. It's been awhile since I watched stuff from the set.

Pacific Northwest advantage So, I'm trying to decide if you meant the advantage of coming from a territory where a ton of super talented guys came from, or the awesome stereotype that since he was from there he'd somehow know how a lumberjack would act. I'm going with a mixture of the two. It makes me happy. -

I posted this in the Yearbook section, but I wanted to share it more widely. Talking about Matt Borne's run in WCW as "Big Josh", the fact that WCW had Matt Borne and told him to wrestle like an untrained lumberjack is so dumb. But how good was Borne considering that he could actually do that, and be convincing? -

Without me digging up the Mid South set, is there an obvious reason why JR would have to do new commentary on these matches?
-
I don't believe wrestling is a case like this. Wrestling doesn't change so drastically from era to era that old matches so much are harder to get into. And I especially don't think this is something you can level at PWO posters. Not when you've got guys living in Texas spending their time watching Jim Breaks matches from the mid-70s. Even if what you are saying might generally be the case outside of this forum, it's really unfair to level that charge at people who post here. Maybe not here, or to an extent maybe not at DVDVR, but there are lots of other sites where everything NL said there is absolutely 100% dead on.

I'd imagine so. All of my old shows got put up on I-Tunes. I know Will wanted to work out some tech details with my old producer, but he's been flakey.

When we were 13/14 year old kids when the Unpredictable One would be introduced on TV someone would always say " Well, I can predict one thing. He won't win." -
I was seriously laughing my ass off during the Orton/ Shaemus match. The whole "How many different random chants can we do" stuff was fucking great. And "Thank you Big Show!" for him ending the match was priceless. I'm proud of my home state. And as far as the "We are awesome!" one, I took it more as the crowd being smarky goofy than smarky self congratulatory. The only thing the crowd didn't chant during that whole match was "MAURY! MAURY!" Oh and the crowd singing Fandango's theme was the greatest thing I've ever seen. And they kept it up as they were leaving. https://vine.co/v/btWLDKPHT6a That's the best. Oh and this from last night.

Don't let the door hit ya on yer ass. Edit. Motherfucker. I just typed up a long spectacular post about Mania, and then Firefox crashed. I'm way to tired and I need to go to bed right now, so I can't try to rewrite it until tomorrow. But it DID start with "Hey Matt. Blow me."
