According to every shoot I've seen with Nash, he was all for it. Unless my memory fails me. I believe he's gone on record saying that the idea was to reform the NWO with Hogan as Champ and have Goldberg do the big chase back to get the belt and revenge, but then Goldberg got hurt. I recall there being some logistical timeline issues with this, but I know that's his story.

[1994-08-29-WWF-Summerslam] Diesel vs Razor Ramon
Johnny Sorrow replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
I loved this match. It always baffled me that people thought the cage match on this show was the best of the night, when I thought it was obvious that this was. -
[1994-08-29-WWF-Summerslam] Lex Luger vs Tatanka
Johnny Sorrow replied to Loss's topic in August 1994
I remember seeing the Tatanka turn coming a mile away. And I LOVED when Tatanka started having a dollar sign on his Loincloth gear. -
Dory was on WO radio a few years ago and I called in to ask him about the "Hoss" thing. He said that Vince didn't come up with it, that "Hoss" was his actual nickname amongst him and his family, and Vince liked it. And the Funks have always had cowboy gimmicks. Maybe not as over the top as it was in the WWF, but they were Texas cowboys at heart. Oh and the only thing Vince changed about Dusty was the polka dots.

What Would It Take To Form a True No. 2 Company To Rival WWE
Johnny Sorrow replied to Bob Morris's topic in Pro Wrestling
I actually think Vince senior wasn't really all that wealthy. He probably was "rich" by most standards, but probably had his share of debts. At the end of the day he was an old school wrestling promoter. How many die rolling in bucks? Oh, and Mania 1 wasn't at night, it was an afternoon show. And here's a funny story. They kept announcing during the buildup that there was an 11 pm curfew, and my dopey ass took that as them saying this show might go on actually to that time. When the show ended after the main event and the lights came up, I was pissed cause I figured they'd be showing us old matches or some sort of wind down show until 11 pm. -
What Would It Take To Form a True No. 2 Company To Rival WWE

I was at the Philly Spectrum for Mania 1. They had the giant square scoreboard thing that hung from the middle of the place draped with four large screens. Like a giant movie theatre with seating for all four screens. And from what I have read, Vince Sr. didn't give Vince Jr the business in some cheery "Here you are, my son! Go forth with my legacy!" deal. Vince had to buy it from his Dad and if he didn't get square with the deal he'd lose the thing. I remember reading how Monsoon owned a big chunk of the business and Vince Jr. had to cut him a deal to get his share, and other types of stories like that. Add in the failures like Inoki/ Ali and even the Evel Knievel thing.* So the idea that they leveraged everything they had on this actually rings very true. * http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1090843...sastrous/page/2 -

The Billy Graham run between Florida and JCP, was actually pretty cool. He jumped to Vince not to soon after. Probably because he had gotten totally juiced up again, started wearing tye dye again, and started cutting awesome promos again. But as a face. It was pretty great to see the Graham I had only read about and not karate fighter Graham. And I'd guess Vince saw the guy who he had liked so much before he owned the WWF and brought him back. I know Graham pissed off Dusty by stiffing a cab driver who Dusty ended up paying. As far as the Bass/ Bart/ JJ stuff, it's like this. Bass didn't have to put anything up because the match was made by "the matchmakers", who were generally favorable to the good guys, especially a former heel who got screwed by his manager and therefore turned face. So he wins the match to get his hands on JJ and JJ gets a beating. BUT, the face is foiled by underhanded means and a battered JJ gets carried away...in order to advance the feud. And Bass had a series with Buddy Landell after this, who was managed by JJ still. It all got dropped after they moved JJ to Tully and Landell got canned, I'd imagine.

I used to hang around a board that had people who'd actually say shit like, "We, as members of the IWC, feel...blah blah". It was hilariously stupid.

Nah, I loved Hillbilly Jim. The lead up to him "becoming a wrestler" was great stuff. Jim was a "fan" in the crowd for months on Saturday morning TV. At first they didn't acknowledge him, then they'd occassionally say "Oh the big guy doesn't like these tactics!", to him getting so upset at heels being evil that he jumped the rail to help Hogan, I think. Then they had Hogan train him to be a wrestler. Hillbilly Jim was over as fuck, and then he broke his leg I think?

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3

The thing is, guys like Punk and Bryan probably both welcome a vet they respect like Kane into the angle. Net fans will wail and cry, but I'd imagine that actual workers respect each other. -
Some cross thread pollination, but on the last WHATAMANOOVER! show hosted by my pal Bryan and Me, Will and Dylan joined us in the second hour to talk all things AWA. http://www.gamerrage.co.uk/wam/2012/05/rig...illed-that-guy/ It's the show entitled, "Right Before He Killed That Guy".

I'm claiming the first annual Goodhelmet Pro Wrestling Hall Of Fame Ceremony for WHATAMANOOVER!
-
So our producer, British Matt, has got our site all updated with our last twoshows up for listening or download. "Hail Johnny", and "Right Before He Killed That Guy" where we're joined by Will and Dylan. Give us a listen, you have a blast, but you'll hate yourself in the morning. Yeah, I gotta get on British Matt, our producer and site archivist to get the show up. It was a blast. Me, Bryan, Will, and Dylan had a great time. Funny stuff, kids!

It worked with Piper.

Well, "White Lightning" doesn't refer to Horner's skin color. It's a nickname that means he's quick.
-
And let's not be so quick to shit on Ryback. He's getting a slow build and it's been super fun. Him lifting up Reyes and the other jobber stacked like corkwood onto his shoulders and doing a double fisherman's drop was insane. Keep having him do shit like that and he's gonna be over as fuck.
-
Getting over and holding a crowd in the palm of your hand is talent.

Tonight's WHATAMANOOVER on will be at 11pm est. Call ins are welcome and wanted. Call SKYPE PW247 or 7026050247. Bryan and I will be talking Smackdown, Over The Limit, sharing memories of going to shows in the 80's, why Hulk Hogan was awesome and whatever else to fill 2 hours. Join us!

That's great. Think about it. Whenever we all read or see some shoot interview with some legend or old timer and they relate a story like that, it's always a reaction of "That's so awesome! Getting heat! Fuck Yeah!" Why should it be different now? -
Not really, dude. Hogan in his prime was killer. And what does "effective" mean here? Because whether you like him or not, by my definition there hasn't ever been anyone as "effective" in Pro Wrestling.
