WWE TV 09/14 - 09/20 Nearly all of our biomes are burning
El-P replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
Come on, she was obviously fucked up in the head from the start. It's not like the heel turn came from nowhere, she had the messiah syndrome since day 1. But she sure turned batshit insane in no time though, not exactly playing subtle of anything. All because John did not want to exchange body fluids with his aunty anymore... (well yeah, ok, that's Russo too ) -

I had no idea what you were referring to since I don't know the name of pretty much anyone apart from Emilia Clarke. Oh, ok, you mean *that* scene. I'm not that easily offended by violence in movies, but I was repulsed and appalled by this shit and it is exactly one reason why I always thought GoT was a completely ridiculous show, very poorly written, using gratuitous, complacent violence, torture and rape scenes to get a buzz (not to mention swerves, bro, that Vince Russo or M. Night Shyamalan would be proud of). Completely unecessary gory shit and psychological violence that I really did not want to watch. Game of Thrones is the most overrated show ever. Good for hate watching indeed (from the very start), while fast-forwarding the most repulsive torture/rape scenes. Gotta love how every woman was naked and flashing tits and ass all the time in the first few seasons then got dressed up like nuns in the later ones because, ya know... I do laugh my ass off at all the young couples who named their daughter Dany or Danae because she was such an inspiring empowering and whatnot female figure... and then... wooops, didn't see that ending coming. -
Probably because it's less an NWA show than several indies working together. With Mike Bennett in the main event... Nothing against the guy, but really now. Free on Youtube, I'd probably bat an eye at the main event, just for the sake of it. By sheer virtue of working All Out and Dynamite, Thunder Rosa is a much bigger name than anyone there.
-
The guy is young, good looking, engaged to Penelope Ford... Yeah, basically jealousy.
-
He's a kinda fun character, needs to develop his game, pretty good worker but nothing special shown thus far. Considering the ridiculous amount of hatred he gets here, he's safely in the "underrated" category. It's not like he has got any kind of serious push thus far either.

Maybe they'll finally be successful in recruiting someone, after weeks of efforts... This Dark Order stuff is way more compelling and fun to me than the apparent MJF/Wardlow storyline, which again, reeks of old-school pro-wrestling studies but really strikes me as kinda ridiculous in the current context. I mean, if Wardlow doesn't have a contract with AEW, why is he even allowed to compete there ? And the whole "I can put you and your family on the street" stuff is ridiculous, why isn't Wardlow just signing with AEW anyway if he's tired of MJF's bullshit ? It's not like he wouldn't be signed by Tony Khan, speaking strictly kayfabe-wise. Yeah, I understand it's a classic old-school angle, but it struck me as not fitting in today's product very well unless you give me more than the old-school bullshit. MJF is great, but yeah, his character is almost *too* old-school.

What's intriguing about this whole Cabana angle is that now that Brodie is mad with him costing them the match at All Out, Evil Uno seems to want to "protect" Cabana from his boss wrath. Maybe at some point we'll get a Uno & Grayson babyface turn alongside Cabana (whom I really can't see as a full fledge heel, he's really the "useful idiot" of Dark Order rather than a true heel thus far), maybe also leading to #4 & #5 getting more of a push (they really are an excellent team and Silver is such a charismatic guy he sure could do more).

It was only a few sessions here and there though. Angle was mostly trained by Dr. Tom I believe. I believe Terry Funk retiring and then coming back to work for Onita really did not sit well with the main promotions. As far as Dory goes, well.... just watch him, his look, his kind of work. Not exactly the kind of stuff that hardcore leagues were about (well, the look was whatever, but the stoic (aka boring as fuck) attitude and endless european forearms and stuff was not exactly gonna set FMW on fire).

Yeah, the man had a tremendous voice. Just catching up on 09/01 episode. I will legit miss Wrestle House, one of my favourite stuff of the summer. And it sure delivered for its last episode, with the über-ridiculous Deaners vs Ace & Larry brawl ending up with Suzie basically murdering all four of them, then the inevitable Taya vs Rosemary main event culminating with a happy-ending (and yes, another wedding incoming I guess). I love how they go full-fledge Lucha Underground magic stuff as the entire cast of Wrestle House just teleports inside the ring during Purrazzo's celebration, which already had been ruined by Grace and the return of Tenille Dashwood. With Kylie Ray the official N°1 contender, that women's roster is just stacked on top. Eric Young winning the world title in a very good TV match was quite the development, the guy is now used at his most effective. Very pleased with how his comeback turned out. (also enjoying the Callihan/RVD feud and the MCMG defending against Rascalz the following week. Heath has been a fun addition too thus far. ECIII is basically a psychopath, his suff with Moose has been quite interesting too. The Impact rebuild about SpeakingUp/Tessa debacle really has worked much better than I thought it would)
-
But you do know why they were called Henry O. and Phineas I., right ?
-
Dustin Rhodes doing Code Red and Canadian Destroyers at 50 years old is fucking awesome. Just like Terry Funk doing crazy-ass moonsault at whatever age he was in the 90's was awesome. And yeah, Dustin at 50 still is a great worker and his match with Lee was terrific. So glad he's getting to display his ability again.
-
Considering Jake Hagger murdered Stunt on Dark a few weeks ago (with Stunt injuring his ankle), I don't think this will happen... Now, give Big Swole another TV feud that takes up my time and then I'll complain, again.
-
Because pissed off people always express themselves more anyway. In a few weeks no one will talk about this anymore. Of course there will be something else that will piss some people off by then.

As far as AEW goes ? Nope. FTR were gonna work with the Young Bucks and Omega/Page, which basically means they are top level guys from the get go. Miro, who the hell knows what level he can attain in AEW. He's totally unproven outside the WWE machine. He can be another Mox/Lee or another Spears (Cardona is too early to tell, but I don't see shit in him). And honestly, if he had showed up and challenged Mox or Cody right away, *then* we're in a TNA situation where a guy who for years has been a mid-card act at best shows up in the other company and goes automatically to the main event. I really can't wait to see the follow-up, as I've got a feeling of where it's gonna go... I don't think people are getting *how* meta this is (because I don't feel there are a lot of fans of the BTE kind of spirit around here), but maybe I'm wrong about where this is going... Well, because maybe it's time to give the guy some time on TV and develop his character too ? Gotta start somewhere. His team with Jimmy Havoc was quite good and they were given wins, but that was obviously derailed. So, let's try again. Nah. The Dark Order beatdown of the Elite late last year is still their biggest misfire. That and the Tyson stuff, actually, which I thought was a complete mess (and it really did not spark much mainstream interest nor helped ratings).

I doubt he was the hottest free-agent anywhere but in the minds of hardcore fans. In the WWE, Rusev had been a complete afterthought for *ever* before he got his last big angle which was all about him losing his wife to Lashley and having a bunch of totally forgettable matches. Yes, he was one of the biggest names *for hardcores*, and hardcores certainly dug the dig at WWE (it's the old ECW mentality, really). It's not like he was a main-eventer in WWE. He never was. He peaked as far as status on the card when he fought Cena... that's YEARS ago. If you consider kayfabe, FTR were arguably much bigger deals than Rusev thanks to their NXT aura (which also assured they would fit in AEW), and they did get the tag team titles recently before they left. Rusev, much like Cardona (I'm obviously not saying it's *the same*), is a guy who got over much bigger than his push. But the last memorable thing he did in WWE was a stupid wedding angle, after years of doing nothing of note, really. The fact he's introduced in AEW in a wedding angle is total meta-work, and actually I find that really funny and smart.

Three letters : A.E.W.. Since DAY 1, people have been doing that about the promotion. Remember when THE LIBRARIANS were gonna drive people away and how this gimmick was gonna KILL THE PROMOTION AND NO ONE WOULD WATCH IT BECAUSE OF THIS SO IMPORTANT GARBAGE GIMMICK ? Yeah. Fun days. Oh, and when Kenny Omega let Angels (who got a job of out it) kick-out of a non-finisher, how that was THE END FOR KENNY OMEGA OH MY GOD HE'S DONE HE KILLED HIS FINISHER (which it wasn't, but, oh well) HE'S A DORK NOW ? Endless "debates" about this absolute non-event for days. It happens all the time with AEW. It's completely ridiculous, but that's the way it is. Probably won't end either. To me 20 years of WWE monopoly has screwed-up people's mind quite a bit (BUT : apparently people are ok with JR sucking and stuff like that)
-
Well, I agree 200% with you on this. I was doubtful at first. Since then, she has done exactly nothing but, like you said, using an annoying gimmick catchphrase that reeks of 2000's WWE, which is the last thing I want from AEW. There are plenty of women who would be actually interesting as a manager (I dunno, Veda Scott for one since she was just on TV), this leads to nothing and actually hurts Nyla's aura to me.
-
AEW, pay attention. Me want Thunder Rosa vs Sarita yesterday. And as a veteran working with all the young inexperienced girls (Conti, Jay, etc...), she probably ain't the worst idea either. Yeah, the whole "But they'll get hired back when things get better" thingy seems like complete bullshit now, uh ? Hey, gotta pay for the Thunderdome production cost...

More 1999 WWF PPV coming your way soon... No shit. That one about the two girls who wanted to have sex with him then accused him of rape was a good one. Well, I have zero interest in a Lawler podcast. And Foley, well, that would be a lot more WWF coming your way, and probably more of what had been discussed in lenght again.

And Cody. And Dustin. And FTR... And the Bucks have been making fun of WWE's stuff forever in BTE. It's part of the game. It's expected to get a line or two like that, especially when a guy like Miro shows up (Matt Cardona, yeah, much less so I will say and that would be more like TNA). No. Because this was not a "Russo-style promo". I've probably endured more Russo-style promo than anyone on this forum in the last 10 years, so I know one when I see one. This was the requisite "fuck that other company" lines that you'd expect from a guy like him coming to AEW, that's all. Nothing to get worked up about. Hey, maybe Miro will flop and be exposed as someone who was totally protected by WWE's formula. But at this time, it's impossible to say. Also, him coming as yet another kick-ass MF straight away would be kinda redondant. Mox did it. Brodie Lee did it. Lance Archer did it. Brian Cage did it. People complained (yes, it did happen) that AEW had no big guys and only "small indie geeks doing flips", but now the company has reached the point where they actually have almost too much big guys kicking ass around.
-
Yeah. Miro is basically cutting the Sean Waltman promo in 1998 and people are bitching and referring to TNA. The Sabian connection makes all the sense in the world since Miro basically worked everyone with his "I'm a pro-streamer now" and Kip's gimmick now is all about Twitch, plus it wraps up the WWE shitposting angle. Also, Kip Sabian is totally overplaying the dork in him while he's dating Penelope Ford IRL, so, really people, get over it, Kip is winning at life right now... Miro playing off his shitty WWE stuff is akin Brodie Lee doing Vince in vignette for a while, and look where he is now. Miro will be fine. The Matt Hardy interview was pretty much perfect, I thought it was classy to have Reby over there. Good for Tay Conti. Good for Thunder Rosa. Glad for both ! Almost one year of AEW TV and it's been mostly awesome. Waited almost 20 years for it, won't let overblown negativity for small details ruin my fun, really...

I never wanted to be known or anything, but now is the worst time ever to be a "celebrity", as social medias have given all the creeps in the world a platform to be more creepy than ever. Of course women gets the worst of this deal by far with all the sexual shit, but yeah, even a simple journalist like Meltzer has to deal with so much of shit from obsessive sickos.
-
Mimicking. Better now ? (I use "aping" about anyone, so although I get what you meant by that, you should also know exactly what I meant and most of all what I DID NOT mean)
-
MJF is gonna be a huge superstar. Velveteen is the next NZO.
-
I never got the hype for Velveteen Dream. I had watched a bunch of his stuff back then he was supposed to be the hot shit in NXT and I thought he was never any good in the ring, his whole gimmick was basically aping (not to use a dirty word like cosplaying) Savage/Hogan maneurisms... He was basically TAFKA Prince Iaukea amped up with a great production.
