  1. I honestly couldn't care less about what the WWE does with the Warrior image before or after his death. But the level of hypocrisy, crocodile tears and misplaced sensibility just makes me chuckle. Had he died just before they cut a deal with him, he would have been happy to get a mention on Raw and they probably would have pimped The Self-Destruction again. It's all business.
  2. Money angle. Bishoff is again excellent here, feeling totally uncomfortable. You can cut the tension with a knife and then the nWo shows up and the shit hits the fan. I like teh fact the nWo didn't beat up Piper yet, they just held him back. Uncle Eric immediately acts like a punk, throwing fists toward Piper from afar. It should be always remembered that Bischoff excelled in the "evil boss" role that would be such a stamp on those new hot years for wrestling more than one year before McMahon did it. And just in a snap, DiBiase becomes irrelevant and useless. The only thing that could have been better is I think Schiavone was sorely missed at the broadcast, Heenan & Tenay just weren't able to convey the drama of the situation to me. Sullivan said that it was actually Hall & Nash's idea to make Bischoff part of the nWo. "Make the boss part of the angle. Hum.. I dunno how you can lose with that one…"
  3. Great fake (in hindsight) intimidation segment with Hogan & Bischoff, who's doing a terrific job here too. The DDP & Outsiders bit is a very clever foreshadowing of the money angle at the end. It's amazing that at this point they paid so much attention to details like this, and then at one point they totally lost the plot. This episode of Nitro was just impressive with how they worked the nWo stuff.
  4. I guess you missed the thread when it was argued (not by me) that Vincent was a WCW B-show superworker in 1999.
  5. That's what I meant.
  6. What a bunch of bullshit. How many kids lose their dad every minute everywhere in the world ? Yeah, since we all saw them at the HoF, we feel really bad for a minute or two. And yeah, the Warrior dying brings back memories from when some of us were a bunch of kids. But nostalgia goes a long way. Once the thoughts are rightfully sent to the family, it's time to be fair and point out the guy was a gigantic asshole who harmed and insulted a lot of people by his comments over the years, that he was a shitty worker who delivered a bunch of good matches and a vast majority of unwatchable hours of crap, and that the WWE guys are all shedding crocodile tears now because after years of burying the guy in the dirt (and making money out of it), they just had made a deal with him and were onto the process of making more money from nostalgic old geezers who now are feeling bad because the guy who use to run and shake the ropes and blow up died at 54 after a life of steroid abuse (despite the fact he himself showed no compassion for his peers who died from the same kind of chemical abuse over the years). (Ted DiBiase being a hypocrite leech is nothing new either.)
  7. Excellent segment. Nash & Hall do a great job hyping the match and putting the opposition over. Nash bullying Schiavone was indeed pretty neat as he referenced Tony's laugh the previous week and made it an active part of the segment. Schiavone acting totally pissed of at Larry and leaving the broadcast during the next segment was pretty terrific. Schiavone was still at his best then.
  8. I fail to see how that makes him a legit badass. He may very well be, but...
  9. All Steiner's big match are ridiculously overrated. The only one that deserves the universal love to me is the Nasties match in 90. Don't get me started on the infamous Dome Show match against Hase & Sasaki.
  10. Fuck ! I want Schiavone with Corny instead !
  11. Yep, Yoshida was definitely 99. Seems like an eternity ago now.
  12. Not during WM season they won't. Because the massive jerk-off ceremony that is the HoF makes everyone put on their rose-colored glasses on. And really, when you think Savage got zilch after all he meant to the company and the pro-wrestling business as a whole. Well. Context is everything like I said before.
  13. After the initial surprise at Havoc, the build really pettered out with kinda useless Hogan promos and this kind of stuff which was stupid. I don't know how much it was Sullivan's thing and how much it was Hogan, Piper and Bischoff, really.
  14. This match reminds me why I was buying all those AJ TV blocks from Lynch in the early 00's.
  15. Indie wrestling is so mid-00's.
  16. Oh well. You get the point though. It's mind blowing.
  17. I am dating WCW from the Turner buyout.
  18. Even for mid 90's WWF house show style, the Godwinns sucked. They brought nothing to the table.
  19. Well, it probably was. From their perspective it was probably hard to work with them as they had two completely different styles. What was the Godwinns style already ? Being shitty workers ? Yeah, it had to be like pulling teeth for Furnas & LaFon who had spent years in AJ then worked their first program in WWF against Owen & Bulldog.
  20. Just checked out the Dixie segment where she talks about being responsible for making "the beard" fashionable. And in the main event, an Abyss match (gasp !) involving barbwire and bumping into thumbtacks. IN 2014 !!!!!!!!! Seriously, this shit is just as godawful and irrelevant as anything from WCW in 2000. And I know what I'm talking about. Russo gets a paycheck to be a consultant ? Brillant on his part, I guess. I have no word.
  21. Lance Storm was spot-on with Warrior's passing and the "interesting" overwhelming positive comments on a guy who by all account acted like an asshole and said terrible things and never apologized for it.
  22. Canterbury was decent as best working in single. Knight was awful. I can't get over the fact *they*, of all people, said that working against Furnas & LaFon was like pulling teeth. Yeah. The fucking Godwinns.
  23. Oh man, that Albano "performance" is one of the most embarrassing thing I've ever seen in a wrestling match. How many time did he blade anyway ?

And you wonder why it never feels organic.
