Will made my day. +

I miss that guy, anyone know why he left? He looked like Pittbul #1. At some point I thought he was gonna be involved in some angle.
-
The one thing I agree with Martin is that I did notice the crowd wasn't chanting that loud once the plants started occupying the ring. Wait & see I guess.

So, I watched *that* segment. Terrific angle. Quite efficient delivery from Stephy & Hunter. Great visual. Great way to put over the merchandise too. They totally lucked into this one much like with Austin at WM13. Now, of they don't put the title on Bryan at WM, they're fucking insane. The script should go : _Daniel Bryan pins HHH in 18 seconds. _Daniel Bryan beats Orton & Batista to win the World Title. _sell shitoads of Daniel Bryan merchandise. Easy. And *now*, I'm actually interested in watching WrestleMania.

So, they are still doing angles out of terrible Kane shit from the late 90's/early 00's ? Involving Abyss, who's been the worst garbage monster ever, an inept mix of third rate Mankind and second rate Kane with no charisma nor understanding of working. And Dixie Carter is not only the worst promoter ever at this point, but she's also a terrible performer from what I've seen. The promotion looks like they're on the verge of dying, they're like an out of date, bloated indy promotion without the cool indy workers. The mere idea that Jarrett even wanted to buy back into this is puzzling.

I thought Cornette was happily living away from the drug of pro-wrestling. Well, maybe he's just helping out his friend for a while. But it really didn't work out very well last time around.

[1996-08-19-WCW-Nitro] NWO Paid Announcement and Slim Jim commercial
El-P replied to Loss's topic in August 1996
Did really cool laidback heels existed before Hall & Nash ? The problem with them is that they indeed were cooler than the WCW guys.- 5 replies

[1996-08-15-WCW-Clash of the Champions XXXIII] Ric Flair vs Hulk Hogan
El-P replied to Loss's topic in August 1996
This match pinpoints everything illogical about pro-wrestling clichés : all of a sudden, Hogan sells and bumps for the same Flair offense he mainly no-sold for years, all of a sudden Flair actually outsmarts Hulk Hogan in spots (the bite on the test of strenght), all of a sudden Flair misses his legdrop and doesn't reverse the figure four everybody and their sister had reversed for the last 15 years. The Hulk up was totally stupid, Hulk still hadn't totally figure out how to work heel efficiently. Him jawing up with a woman at ringside was nice. At points they looked confused and fumbled around because they didn't know how to make it work. SO yeah, not really a good match, but interesting. Cool post match though, with Sting and Flair shoving themselves around. Now that made sense.- 7 replies

[1996-08-12-WCW-Nitro] Interview: Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall & Kevin Nash
El-P replied to Loss's topic in August 1996
Yeah, kinda half-ass promo, and Hogan shines more than the other two here. You can see he was already having a blast working heel at this point.- 6 replies

I had not. I was gone. Amazing job.

Wonderful RF editing job as always, with the same sequence twice on the fucking trailer. How incompetent these guys can be ?
-
Watching his soot interview with Highspots a few years ago, he did seem like a deranged individual. What an awful awful human being. Will WWE show any Zumhofe match on the Network ?
-
Steamboat vs Rude. For all the reasons mentionned already.

Damn, you beat me to it.

Johnny B Badd / Marc Mero... Time to Revisit his Career
El-P replied to goodhelmet's topic in The Microscope
Well, Mero has said that when he debuted, he was riding with Hammer, Bagwell and Eric Watts. Yep. Bad idea. -
I know these are only predictions, although the few big main event matches are pretty much locks, but is it me or WM 30 seems a lot less of a big deal than WM 20 and 10 were in their respective times ? And really, there's nothing on top that is particulary exciting or intriguing to me. Lesnar vs Taker is the biggest match on the card to me, and I've been bored by the streak gimmick for ever, not to mention Taker's matches have been ridiculously overrated for years, from the good matches against Michaels to the abomination that was the cage match with HHH. Could be cool with Lesnar involved, but I really wonder what can Taker do at this point. And should it be his farewell match (which to me seems like a muhc bigger selling point than anything else on the card) ? Orton vs Batista is just a nothing main-event, and it looks dated as all hell too. And then there's Bryan, who should be in the main event and win it, but instead goes against HHH, who already bored me senseless by 2001. Cena vs Wyatt is just a WTF match to me. May be decent, but it seems like a complete throwaway. Hogan as a host is a sad state of affair judging by his appearance on RAW, and he doesn't even seem like a big deal anymore (nor should he, we're in 2014 for fuck's sake). The excitement I felt with the comeback of the Rock two years ago is long gone, and this top of the card looks horribly dull to me.

Johnny B Badd / Marc Mero... Time to Revisit his Career
El-P replied to goodhelmet's topic in The Microscope
I've been pimping Mero for years as an underrated worker. He did improve vastly to get to his 1995/96 level. That being said, I feel re-watching the DDP feud (which I enjoy quite a bit) recently that at this point he indeed had already reached his plateau level and I'm not sure he could go beyond that level, both as a character and as worker. The fact he was given a very nondescript character in WWF (the Wildman…. okay… what is so wild about him ?) really didn't help him either in term of evolving past that point. From his all acount, Mero did had an ego back then. That + pre-planning his matches (which of course is okay if you're Savage but not if you're DDP or Mero, which is really laughable considering the way things work now) + first garanteed contract jump to WWF + Sable = heat. -
Yep. The dates and references have sadly vanished with the new board layout.

Heart attack… not exactly a shocker. Sad to hear. I enjoyed Mabel a lot too back in the M.O.M. days. Just ridiculous highspots for such a big guy, and the colorful outfit was cool in an über90's way. If I had followed WWE at the time, I'm pretty sure I would have enjoyed his Big Daddy V. stint quite a bit since I'm a sucker for big fat wrestlers that can go. Certainly a character from my teenage years that'll always remember.

Benoit vs Malenko, Hog Wild 96.

Yeah, pretty much. TNA also deserves the honor for being the most irrelevant pro-wrestling company ever. It only laster that long because some people are willing to lose money. They never drew shit. They never made one star. They aren't a blimp on the wrestling radar. Yet they have outlasted WCW already. It's amazing. (that also says something about the ultra-slow evolution, or should I say the status-quo in the pro-wrestling scene since 2001)
-
The stalling at the beginning was fun, but the match wasn't good. Hogan was still experimenting with the Hollywood character, and the Giant simply wasn't a good worker yet. Ed Leslie comes off like a total suck up douchebag and gladly he wasn't included in the nWo (yet). I guess Hall & Nash had to fight against it, it would have been a pretty big stain on the angle. The spraypainting was Hall & Nash's idea too. Brillant.

[1996-08-10-WCW-Hog Wild] Scott Hall & Kevin Nash vs Sting & Lex Luger
El-P replied to Loss's topic in August 1996
Good match, with Hall being the standout. It seems to me that the finish was actually blown a little bit, as Luger couldn't get Hall up and Patrick had to delay his "accidental" screw-up.
