  1. Oh man, the cosplay match. First time I truly realized that love for Japanese pro-wrestling had fucked up an entire generation of hardcore fans and workers. Joe cosplaying as an All Japan big 4 and the crowd cosplaying Korakuen Hall was embarrassing to watch. Total post-modern pro-wrestling. I hated this with a passion.
  2. Agreed about that "Not anymore!" soundbyte getting really grating really fast. Thankfully they didn't really include the Nasties in the nWo, that would have been awful. They do look like two idiots here. Scott Hall dropping the Full Metal Jacket "Me love you long time" line for whatever reason. Nasty Nick. Damn it's kinda creepy to see Hogan and Flair's kids during this Nitro era knowing how they would end up. The Liz angle is actually really good and well done, and they made the most sense out of it. Gotta love the notion that we're supposed to think Hogan is a legit movie star.
  3. Funniest story in the ICP shoot is Hugh Morrus throwing a fit because he's supposed to be the fat guy doing a moonsault. What a big pussy this guy is. No wonder he acts like a bully.
  4. Agreed, Uncle Eric talks a good game when he's not being punked out. I guess they didn't plan to have him joign the nWo yet.
  5. Of course. He's Andre's son.
  6. Indeed. The Warrior one cracked me up. Odd they would me so spot on with the other ones and totally fucked up with Vince.
  7. Damn, Dean is dry. Yeah Tony is good here. I didn't know of this angle before.
  8. The beatdown and angle is great. nWo taking over the booth is great. Vincent debuting, not so much. Served no purpose at all except a not so funny pun at Vince. This is the beginning of nWo getting crowded with useless hacks sadly. Also, the remainder of the broadcast showed why an nWo TV show would not be a good idea. Of course with most the stars on the roster in Japan, it was a smart way to do things and it was fresh at the time, but watching it back now it just brought back bad memories of Souled Out...

Well, April's Fool, of course I don't look forward to a 20 minutes HHH match, who am I kidding ? But yeah, they did a good job turning their mistake into somewhat of a long-term storyline which adds way more intrigue than most past Manias. Although the issue is having to go through yet another HHH match, but most of all a main event involving Orton & Batista, who are two black holes at this point, so pretty much 100% of my interest lies in watching Bryan celebrate in the ring at the end and that's it. The entire card looks dull and thrown together. Two battle royal ? Really ?

I must admit Steph & HHH have done a really good job in the last few weeks, to the point I actually (gasp) kinda look forward to the Bryan vs HHH match just to get more of HHH bumping around and Stephy throwing a fit at the end. Well, if all goes well of course, but at this point, with this ridiculous self-aware video, it can't go wrong, right ? RIGHT ? Anyway, I lost every bit of interest I could have had for Taker vs Lesnar on paper, the streak always bored me and Lesnar doesn't look special anymore. And Taker ain't losing. Still don't care one way or another about Cena vs Wyatt. The undercard is nothing with two useless matches after the opener which has too many names thrown in already. The Hogan moments will be embarrassing, as will the comedy and diva stuff, as usual. So, at this point, my interest has been reduced to basically a HHH match (holy shit, what I am saying ?) and the final moment with Bryan getting immerged into 70k people chanting YES at the end of Mania.
  11. RVD at Wrestlemania ? In 2014. How exciting.
  12. Excellent promo for Sting, one of his best ever at this point. It's amazing to think they had to work it out because of stupid contractual reasons, and then come up with the crow gimmick which would make him the hottest babyface in the country for a whole year. Actually, Sullivan mentionned in the 96 Timeline that Hall came up with the crow gimmick for Sting.
  13. Syxx was supposed to come in early along with Nash & Hall, but his contract didn't allowed him to. They should have not made nWo Sting a regular after the angle. Hogan, Nash, Hall & Syxx + DiBiase as a boss should have been the nWo.
  14. Tremendous heat and good work. I totally disagree about Hall & Nash, they were solid, especially Hall working with Arn during the first segment and bumping for everyone. Nash didn't shine because the cage doesn't suit his strong points, but the way he delivered his big boot to Arn the first time he came on was Barbie-like smooth. And both of them actually bump and show a lot of ass, which should be the case as they are bullies, not invicible monsters. The crowd didn't bought the fake Sting at all, chanting "This is not Sting !", which made the announcers look like idiots for not even questionning the identity of the guy in the ring. Not as bad as when Barry Windham dressed up as Sting in 90, but still. I agree that once the Sting stuff was out of the way, they totally rushed through it and the finish was anticlimatic (which kinda was always the case in Wargames anyway because of the "surrender" gimmick to me). The post-match was pretty awesome (although Benoit & McMicheal should have showed up) with the amazing "wolves around their pray" beatdown of Savage, Liz showing up from nowhere to protect Savage (which does come from nowhere but they do have 10 years of history together, and the love/hate/love dynamic is a classic so I can buy it) and the amazing scumbag attitude of Hogan. I loved the fact they just didn't beat on Savage for ten minutes but just satyed around him, simply threatening him and humiliating Liz, showing they could do whatever they wanted with both of them. Über sexy Liz lying over Savage and getting spraypainted was a great B-movie like gang-rape metaphor, there's something really creepy about the whole scene (and just like with the Jake Roberts feud in 92, Liz is portrayed as a pretty damn brave woman, jumping in the shark cage when not one WCW wrestler seem to have the balls to do it). Loved it and it was a tremendous built for Savage vs Hogan which all of a sudden looks like the hottest feud in the world again.
  15. Solid babyace Savage match here, and the best single match the Giant has up until that point. Just basic storytelling that works thanks to Savage's selling and bumping. The nWo attack outside puts the heat on Savage vs Hogan for Fall Brawl. Good stuff, although Giant still looks like the odd one in the nWo, very clearly. Nick Patrick hasn't made his coming out, but he's obviously crooked. Good stuff.
  16. Yay. More idiotic comedy instead of giving Goldust a WM match.
  17. Amazing footage !! The 1971 stuff totally cracked me up too, with "Poupée de cire, poupée de son" as the soundtrack, and the dry humour when he says he only has a drop of wine ("deux doigts", which litteraly means two fingers, which of course in his case means the whole bottle). In the 66 interview he says he only drinks milk. I always heard Eddie Carpentier say Andre looked great and athletic when he was young, I had a hard time picturing that, but now I can. Thanks for this.
  18. Yeah, I found pretty interesting that it was actually based on Amin Dada's rumoured cannibalism.
  19. They actually look like a cute couple on those ones.

Eh eh eh. You actually got a laugh out of me.
  21. Yep, terrific sell job for the upcoming Wargames. Great old-school pro-wrestling recap by Gene, with cool library music to boot.
  22. Arn was doing some tremendous promo work at this time.

Johnny Polo + Gorilla Mansoon is the greatest odd pairing ever on commentary. Levy was great in this role, too. Yeah, Levy was just a tad bit too old, but he had the look and attitude down pat.
