  1. I hope Heenan was privy to this type of adoration while he was still alive. It feels like he's been gone for years because of his health and voice issues, and I hope he realized how much his peers and his fans worshipped him.
  2. I love this
  3. Michaels/Razor until likely Austin/Hart at WrestleMania. Lots of standouts like Michaels/Razor II, Michaels/Diesel, and Michaels/Mankind in between, but Austin/Hart was the first that clearly seemed to stand out as a GOAT above others.
  4. I know size was a factor, but that's total short-sighted booking with him as The Blazer. Vince always wanted a Mighty Mouse and I guess he thought putting a mask on him would somehow make the fans give him a double standing ovation.
  5. Shane McMahon worked about one month of house shows (17 shows) in late 2003 facing Kane in street fights and cage matches. That is the full extent of his "on the road" work with WWE.
  6. I just want another 6 months of Prime Time for the Piper episodes. Hell, just finish the run so we have the studio audience and roundtable.
  7. I'll never complain about wacky banter as long as one day you have Justin Shapiro on to talk about how he knows nothing about RoH.
  8. Dave gave Cena/Corbin 2 stars putting it just outside the realm of bottom 10%.
  9. Thanks! I was drawn to the sheer randomness of names featured and WHEN they were featured. I actually tracked down that '76 issue because I knew it would have the first entry and boy was I perplexed when the series started with Cowboy Frankie Laine. As you shared, he's definitely a character. Only real footage I was able to find was some matches as a jobber in 1986 WWF at the very end of his career.

  11. Worst PPV matches according to Meltzer, close to bottom 10 percent: vs. Orton (Unforgiven 2007) - Only negative star Cena PPV match vs. Laurinaitis (Over The Limit 2012) - DUD vs. The Miz (Bash 2009) - DUD vs. JBL (Bash 2008) - 1 star vs. Edge (NYR 2006) - 1 star, not even really a match, MITB cash in vs. The Miz (WM XXVII) - 1.25 vs. Big Show (Judgment Day 2009) - 1.25 w/Batista vs. Booker & Finlay (Armageddon 2006) - 1.25 vs. JBL (WM XXI) - 1.25 vs. Big Show (WM XX) - 1.25 w/ Palumbo & Stamboli vs. Benoit/Rhyno/Spanky - (Judgment Day 2003) - 1.25 vs. Brock (Backlash 2003) - 1.25 vs. Jericho (Vengeance 2002) - 1.25 w/Otunga vs. Cody/McIntyre (Bragging Rights 2010) - 1.5 vs. Big Show (Extreme Rules 2010) - 1.5 vs. JBL (Judgment Day 2008) - 1.5 vs. Bray Wyatt (Extreme Rules 2014) - 1.75 vs. Khali (Judgment Day 2007) - 1.75 Survivor Series Match (2004) - 1.75 I'm sure that Khali rating is going to rile some people up.
  12. I think there is a little more to the Dave/NJPW relationship than is being said. Dave is responsible for NJPW's current interest level in the English Speaking world along with them coming to ROH. He's extremely favorable to them and despite thinking this is the best stuff ever, he still devotes almost no time into any other Japanese promotion. NJPW being hot helps F4W. It means more subscriptions and more publicity for Dave. Because each promotion in Japan is different. This would be like saying "he loves WWE, but spends almost no time on GFW or any other American promotion". NJPW is the big one in Japan and has been for the past few years. He loves their matches, hence he spends more time covering them. If other fans took his recommendation, but then didn't like NJPW, they wouldn't be breaking through over here. But they do, so it is.
  13. I'm a Dave sympathizer but I agree that it's a bit silly to throw out 5 star plus ratings like candy all of a sudden at specifically Omega. I rationalize it like everything over 5 stars is just 5 stars, with an added note that Dave thinks the Omega-Okada series is the best series of matches in the past few years. I don't look at Omega-Okada receiving 6 stars in 2017 meaning that it's better than a 5 star match in 1989, only that it's equivalent. Dave is never going to give well thought out answers to star ratings questions/complaints on Twitter and Bryan is not the guy to pick his brain about it. It would be outstanding if Charles, Stephen, Kris or whomever was able to get access to Dave for like a 15-20 minute podcast and really dive into his reasoning beyond "I've given out 6 star ratings since 1989 but no one noticed". That said, it shouldn't impact how anyone other than Dave rates wrestling matches at this point.
  14. Huh? Like Dave didn't give Flair the highest star ratings during his prime in the '80s? The Flair-Steamboat series was the first thing he ever gave over 5 stars to anyway. It's not like the Young Bucks aren't highly regarded by a large number of fans.
  15. That was really interesting. I've never thought about Flair pre-Horsemen because I've never seen that footage. Can't even fathom a different type of Flair.
  16. It's not like anyone has come out to say "I was there, that didn't happen". The only variation is PWI reporting that both Jarrett and Strowman were pretty hammered.
  17. It doesn't have to be a scene from a movie. If Braun is drinking it stands to reason his apology would be over the top. I don't believe he sincerely begged Karen on his knees, but I have no trouble imagining him trying to make a big show of it. Of all the stories to be hung up on.
  18. What makes you think it wouldn't be sitting on a shelf gathering dust like the vast majority of what they own?
  19. Ah serves me right for listening in stints. Love the show by the way. Happy you were able to pick up the slack with Parv gone. The fact you and Allan have made it 14 episodes so far and still are uncovering forgotten WCW stuff is awesome.
  20. Hey JT, Renegade was NOT Jungle Jim Steele. He was Rio, Lord of the Jungle on the indies.
  21. The crankiness seems like schtick now too. Conrad and Bruce know what their listeners expect and play to it. Anytime Conrad snaps at Bruce or vice versa, it's basically a high spot for them.
  22. I still really like this match, but I now agree with some of the criticisms in this thread. Until Scott goes onto the announcers' desk, I think this is pretty much perfect. Rick vs Luger is an awesome opening. They feel each other out and it has a friendly, but competitive exhibition feel. There's a great stretch of Luger matching Rick's Steinerline with an even more impressive one that flips him inside out. Then Sting hits his great tracking dive as well as doing Rick's own corner slam. Sting and Luger are starting to get carried away and the hits are getting harder so when Scott finally gets in, he goes nuts and hits the double underhook powerbomb and tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. But then it sort of devolves into a random mishmash of big moves. The Luger/Scott torture rack/legsweep disaster is a confusing botch, but Rick's blind tag bulldog is awesome. The match is always entertaining, but the story disappears. Still a great match that is probably the best these four could have done at the time. And it lived up to the dream match moniker.
  23. Agree with Coffey. Roman/Braun was the highlight for me, but only in a vacuum as I don't have confidence that they'll go anywhere worthwhile with it. Joe/Brock not only did not live up to expectations, but also made me less interested in seeing more Joe and Brock/Braun. I don't see how anyone could think Joe looked strong in the match. He attacked before the bell and then choked Brock out multiple times only to lose to 6 spread out German Suplexes and an F5. If anything it shows that despite multiple cheap shots, he had nothing on Brock. It never seemed like Brock was in any danger. He turns purple all the time. The Iron Man match was unmemorable and everything else felt unimportant. These single brand PPV's aren't even on the level of an average old school SNME in terms of importance.
  24. The thing with Bix is it's not always what he says, but how he says it. He has some great points, both about the NJPW announcing and Scott Williams' not receiving cover credit, but the way he's going about trumpeting them makes it look like an attack on JR to the average Twitter follower.
