Steve Austin from 93-97 seemed like a 1970s wrestler trapped in the 90s. I loved it. It's a shame the injures forced him into working "brawl through the crowd" matches with little bumping. That's why when he returned in fall of 2000 I marked out for him working the Stunning Steve and early Stonecold style. It took a while for the crowd to catch up but he had them by the time of the new year

the gossip stuff is probably the last on my list. I guess I like the backstage stuff more than most. Always love to read the yearbook stuff amd match reviews

not that many care anymore but Powell at prowrestling.net is saying Vince is returning to TV soon so that's where the angle seems to be going

I remember those minute-long squashes getting mentioned in "PWI" at the time and blowing my young mind. I can remember PWI ragging on Andre pretty hard around 88/89 saying he needed to get out of main events and how the company should give other wrestlers chances on top. of course they said that in kayfabe terms

"He's ambitiously stupid" - Why Scott Keith's new book is scary bad
Strummer replied to Bix's topic in Megathread archive
http://www.rspwfaq.com/2011/09/16/my-william-shatner-moment/ very professional and kind why would Scott let this be posted on a primarily wrestling themed site? this is coming from the same man who said you were retarded if you liked HHH/Taker at Mania and spot by spot critiqued the match -
my favorite "old" Andre moment is on the first SNME of 1988 (taped in Dec. 87) when he's choking out Hogan post match. The way he gets rid of the Bulldogs like gnats and his look when he no sells Duggan's 2 X 4 shot make him look the coolest badass MF'er of all time

Slaughter was an underrated authority figure. He allowed DX to humiliate him while still maintaining a credible presence and Steve Austin in 2003-2004 was dreadful. He's never been the same for me as a performer since

and fuck Todd Martin Ricardo is awesome. "Bad Comedy" my ass

most of the lines in that promo tonight have been said in practically every internet wrestling message board thread since 2001. That was surreal. I don't necessarily think it was bad but very strange
-
JR sounded like he wanted to strangle Bobby during the match Bobby blurting out "there's my man Mr P!" was hilarious as Perfect had turned on him months earlier and in theory Bobby should have hated him. Very weird

Comments that don't warrant a thread 2010-2011

My favorites are the ones with a mixture of both. Some of the stories are hilarious IMO but they can get annoying when you hear the upteenth ring rat/ x wrestler shit on___, pissed on_____, caught caught with underage____ story. But then a lot of the hand wringing in "In my day we did this" can get annoying as well. As for most disappointing it has to be Heenan's 2001 shoot. He was so bitter and could have sold some great stories while giving his philosophy on the business. I can't balme him though as he was just out the business and had a grudge -
he was pretty awesome in TNA though just being himself and being a smarmy selfish prick. But the WWE just won't let him act that way. Whether it be 16 years ago, 8 years ago or a month ago. Vince just has this idea on how Nash should be and it goes against Nash's strengths (ass kicker, saracastic dillhole)

Talkin' Stone Cold Violence Against Women Paranoid Blues
Strummer replied to Matt D's topic in Pro Wrestling
I don't get offended by this stuff often I guess but this one sticks out. Torrie laughing through all of it made it even more creepy and "too real" for some reason -
nail on the head. It's a fundamental issue with the company. I really don't think this is a political thing. Just how things are structured I still like the angle but it's obviously nowhere near as hot it was in July
-
I think this came from his book. His thought was that the consumer would be too occupied by the holiday season and would be less likely to purchase a PPV in December. He thought halloween Havoc was the biggest show of the year. Although 1996 and 1997 would disprove this. Although Starrcade 1995 was barely promoted on Nitro so maybe it was legit

Apparently on WOL Dave said that Vince doesn't "get" the angle and the recent weeks might be a sign of him interfering with his ideas. The shift more towards a traditional WWE angle seem to support that

Nash is taking a beating online for his performance last night. Geez I didn't think he was *that* bad. Having flashbacks to late 1998/early 1999 WCW I guess Im one of the few left enjoying this story

WCW cruiserweight division from 96-98 ECW post June 1997 not specifically guys but angles and matches in general

another case of the WWF basically promising something big was going to go down and then...nothing. Same thing for next year's show. It's like they wanted to change things up but couldn't quite pull the trigger yet

[1992-10-17-WCW-Saturday Night] Cactus Jack & The Barbarian training
Strummer replied to Loss's topic in October 1992
Mick has said the spot with the 2X4's (or bricks?) hurt so bad he was out on his feet and had to force back tears he was in so much pain. HMM maybe I'm thinkjing of the wrong segment but I'm pretty sure it involved Barbie. WCW changing Barbie's look back to his 80s style get up was smart. No furry boots! The mohawk look made him look more like a badass hard to believe Mick was only 27 at the time. He looked like he was pushing 40- 10 replies

[1992-11-07-WWF-Superstars] Music Video: Bret Hart
Strummer replied to Loss's topic in November 1992
the song is "Makin' Some Noise" by Tom Petty. Pretty obvious they were trying to put Bret over as an old school serious champion as opposed to the last 8 years in the WWF- 18 replies

[1992-11-14-WWF-Saturday Night's Main Event] Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels
Strummer replied to Loss's topic in November 1992
they tried to portray Shawn as somewhat tougher once Sherri was "injured". Pretty astounding how much weight Shawn put on from late 92 until mid 93. HGH gut or just a pudgy pasty dude like Shawn said in his shoot? -
I didn't like that Vince kept saying Davey Boy was going to win because it obviously gave away the finish. I had just turned 13 at this time and I knew Shawn was winning as soon as Vince started in. I was a Shawn fan though so I was psyched Bobby was pretty good here. Yes he tells some election jokes and stuff about Larry Bird's recent retirement but he puts over Shawn pretty well enough very sad ending to Davey Boy's 2nd WWF run
