I saw this "classic" on MonsoonClassic's channel - Abdullah the Butcher vs Bill Kazmaier, a 1991 dream match for sure! This may be one of those matches for me like Akeem vs Big John Studd that looks so bad on paper that I may have to watch it. A link for the brave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aXf3XU9BTA&list=UU84bmY6GGZ2oFpTTfBU64Zw

There's no way either Brian Christopher or Disco are in contention for the worst wrestler ever. No way. Brian was good, just overpushed and overpushed as an annoying character. Disco got a lot out of a throwaway gimmick and was fine as the 1990's Honky Tonk Man. Not sure if I posted this before or not but Conor O'Brian of NXT has to be in contention. He's been in developmental for 10 years and still can't have an interesting match. Also, from the one match I've seen of him, Kelly Kiniski was awful.

Judy is a lot of fun to watch. She's kind of the wrestler most people thought Moolah was. Really fun heel bumper. I reviewed a Glamour Girls vs Penny Mitchell and Candice Purdue match here: http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2012/11/wwf-primetime-wrestling-11251986-review.html Really fun stuff with one of the first powerbombs in the WWF. Also did a fun January 1988 Glamour Girls vs JBA match here: http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2013/03/wwe-friday-night-smackdown-3292013.html

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
rzombie1988 replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I legit beat the SF2 on low and mid kicks. Just stuck to trapping them in the corner then low kicking them to death. -
I've been a Low-Ki fan since before I even saw him wrestle, but as good as he is, he is his own worst enemy. I can't believe he has gotten himself kicked out of so many promotions. NJPW totally threw him a bone when they signed him and he even had to screw that up, along with his subsequent 1 tour AJPW run where he shot on someone. One match of his worth hunting down is IWC Super Indy match against John McChesney. He played heel and beat down John before John made an excellent comeback and won. So much fire in that one.

Nope. There's a whole bunch of hurdles involving the government that would need to be cleared along with visa's and China doesn't have much of a pro wrestling background.
-
Not the greatest but he caught on very fast and was a good worker. His limited amount of matches hurts him as does the style(limited to shooty stuff and shorter matches) and his opposition(I like Andrei Kopylov more than anyone, but we aren't talking Kobashi here). I also want to add that 99% of the wrestling population would have no interest in watching RINGS, which will hurt him big time.

I think most of the people you'd want to interview have already been done.

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
rzombie1988 replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Yeah, total game changer. The first wrestler I've ever seen botch a pin. -
Taue was good. Fine, he wasn't as flashy as Misawa and Kobashi, but he worked smart and kept things simple and straightforward. I thought he got the best match out of Vader in AJPW over Misawa and crew and he was always very fun as Kawada's lackey henchman. You'd have to be crazy if you didn't think he was good and didn't hold his own in this classics. Taue was booed for doing heel tactics to faces. Pro Wrestling 101...

I was told today that Randy Orton was a better worker than Barry Windham because of that one time he hit an RKO off of Evan Bourne's SSP. No, I'm not joking. Reddit's wrestling section is a scary place.

I reviewed All Japan Women's ATHENA TV #37 from 8/17/2001 here: http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2014/09/all-japan-womens-athena-tv-37-japan.html Overall thoughts: The show was good but disappointing, if that makes any sense. All of the matches seemed to follow the formula of - work holds on injured body parts, forget all about it and do pointless brawling, then do the finishing stretch. Hotta and Maekawa(atleast in the first match) put little effort in, while Ito and Momoe really put all they had on the line. The crowd only really got into finishes here which also hurt things. There were a few really good matches, just the same matches would have been even better if the holes in them were filled. I do recommend the show, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see anything but Momoe Nakanishi vs Kumiko Maekawa. Some shots from the show:

I reviewed WWF Superstars of Wrestling 4/28/1990 with pics and gifs here: http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2014/09/wwf-superstars-of-wrestling-4281990.html Overall thoughts: The match weren't bad, but they all were very short. Pez Whatley and Tugboat were the highlights here, with Tug looking like a pretty impressive big man. The promo's were mostly nonsensical though. I can't recommend checking this one out. I reviewed WCCW Disk 40(basically a mix of stuff including matches from WCCW Legends and USWA Texas) in two parts here: http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2014/08/wccw-disk-40-review-part-1.html http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2014/09/wccw-disk-40-review-part-2.html Overall thoughts: The first part was pretty decent with a fabulous Brickhouse Brown vs Iceman King Parsons match. The finish sucked but the match was near perfect minus that. We also had an okay Midnight Express squash, The Great Muta and some good heeling from Gino Hernandez. Part two wasn't as good, minus a good Kerry Von Erich vs Taras Bulba match. It had an awful Kelly Kiniski vs Scott Casey match and not much else aside from Gino being a good heel. Intro to Japanese MMA for the Pro Wrestling Fan
rzombie1988 replied to Tim Cooke's topic in Pro Wrestling
I really miss PRIDE and K-1, more specifically PRIDE. UFC just doesn't cut it. Pride's big stars came across as superstars to me and they all had an aura about them that I don't think anyone in the UFC has ever had, maybe minus Anderson. They just knew how to make big fights and knew how to make their guys come across as larger than life. I haven't seen a ton of K-1, but they had a lot of fun with the freak show aspect of combat sports and they did have some really good fights. I really enjoyed the 3 x 3 minute rounds too. I think you'd have to have Nog vs Sapp on there. That was as pro wrestling as it comes. -
Awful. Legit maybe my least favorite wrestler ever.
-
I'm still hoping for a Lawler/La Parka match somewhere down the line.

What would have been a bigger draw (Mike Tyson)

I'm not following any of your timeline here.... Around Tyson's HoF induction, he was cool with WWE and maybe even hosted a Raw. He's broke, is famous for being a tough guy and likes wrestling. It would have made sense to get a match out of him. -
Continental had a very odd deal with never hiding the identity of guys under masks and purposely telling you who they were. I never got it, but they consistently did it with The Stud, Mr. Olympia, The Bullet and others. Japan, especially the female wrestlers, also adopt this practice with people wearing masks pushed more as cosplay than hiding identities.

I agree with both points. No marketing/innovation + national TV = AWA. Marketing/Innovation + Local TV = WCCW or Memphis(not the best example, but I think you get the idea). Marketing/Innovation + National TV = WWF.

What would have been a bigger draw (Mike Tyson)
rzombie1988 replied to Sidebottom's topic in Pro Wrestling
I really thought Cena/Tyson could have been money, when Tyson was broke and was appearing on WWE TV anyway. Would have beaten a Cena/Del Rio match, that's for sure! Shoot, there's no way it wouldn't have popped a quick Raw rating. But hey, Maria Menounus and K-Fed were more important. That's the difference with wrestling of today and wrestling of the past. You know there would have been a million promoters back in the day who could have figured out how to use a past his prime celebrity, that is a known tough guy and likes wrestling. Apparently, that was too hard for WWE to figure out. But hey, how to use the best ring announcer ever and one of the best commentators ever was also too hard for WWE to figure out. -
Yep, same boat here for sure. Rarely ever finish books or games. They get about a week and that's it. I do end up playing games with no real ending the most though like Civ, Rollercoaster Tycoon, LOL and Candy Crush.

I liked Open Fight Night. It made sense for the most part but also didn't in some ways because why wouldn't everyone just challenge for title matches every time? Gut Check was totally TNA and a disaster. Lose your match? You're hired! The fans chant not to hire someone, you're hired! I'd wager at least 85% of the people involved looked like total idiots. They did have a string with Roode/Hardy/Aries in late 2013, but then trailed off immediately after with bad shows.
