It's interesting to rewatch this having just watched Cornette's 1990 timeline shoot as he mentions that Flair would use his status as booker to put together good singles matches with guys he wanted to work with and Eaton obviously fit the bill. Not much to add other than I agree with everyone saying this is a brilliant match that hits every mark pretty much perfectly.

I think WWF/E always had a great record at the "King" gimmick whenever they resuscitated it (King Booker, for instance) but Macho is the all-time best at it. 100% committed, Sherri being great alongside him, even though they were around the middle of the deck at the time. Typically strong promo from the two where they just leap off the screen and more solid Rumble hype from the WWF.

[1990-01-06-NWA-World Championship Wrestling] Interview: Four Horsemen
Stiva replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
A nice contrast with the previous segment with Flair, here. Very calm with his PWI award and in full Nature Boy mode here. And who can blame Sting for being excited at joining the Horsemen? It was the sweetest gig of the time. -
Three great talkers talking greatly. Poor Sting...

[1990-01-06-NWA-Worldwide] Norman the Lunatic and Woman
Stiva replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
I crack up every single time I see this painting, it's hilarious. I wonder who drew that thing. The crowd seem to really be into Norman, to the point where I agree that this could have been a great angle to rehash with Eugene.- 16 replies

[1990-01-06-USWA-Memphis TV] Jerry Lawler and King Cobra
Stiva replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Lawler kills it with a hilarious, albeit racist promo. It's always funny seeing Lawler swing for the crassest stereotypes possible in Memphis, while the black section of the audience laughs their head off. King Cobra, on the other hand is....not great though is probably perfect face-fodder for heel Lawler to work around.- 20 replies

[1990-01-06-USWA-Memphis TV] Dustin Rhodes and Gary Young promos
Stiva replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Lawler asleep at the desk is the first of many laughs he's going to throw up in USWA this year. He even fires off two great lines about Dustin who is cultivating that great Dusty impression already. Gary Young's hair is something else; like a comedy CAW from Smackdown 2 though his promo is solid, albeit with an edgy line about him being an abortion survivor. A pretty perfect sleaze heel promo.- 16 replies

I could watch Bobby Heenan read the phone book. Sherri is fantastic, as mentioned but the whole segment is a really great way of hyping the Rumble and letting managers get their guys over going into it.

[1990-01-06-WWF-Superstars] Rick Martel and Brutus Beefcake
Stiva replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Hey, I can sympathise with Rick. My favourite jacket once got damaged beyond repair at a gig once and I felt awful for weeks. A light little, crowd popping angle that, as said, the WWF always did really well- 24 replies

I agree with Loss about Fulton bringing some cool touches to this. Little things like reacting to Kawada feigning kicks in a great exaggerated way and then just going wild with forearms to Fuyuki on the apron, giving a nice hint at how the finishing stretch was going to go. All in all, this is a good tag match between two good teams. It took a while to get into the groove but it really trucked toward the end.

[1990-WWA] El Hijo del Santo & Blue Demon Jr vs Eddy & Mando Guerrero
Stiva replied to Loss's topic in January 1990
Very fun tag with a kinda silly ending angle. Maybe hindsight helps here but you can already see that Eddie has a lot of the intangibles that would make him a star.- 21 replies

Really good 6-man featuring 6 guys that couldn't really fail to have a good match. The Casas/Santo pairing is just fantastic to begin and I actually thought that Dragon, his awkward sequence with Panther aside, had a pretty good showing, especially in the first caida and at least kept up with the pace. I'll try not to repeat too much of what others have said but Fuerza is fantastic at doing the shit nobody else is. Why won't anybody shake the poor man's hand? I agree that the second caida feels a bit poor compared to the cool pairings of the first but the third caida escalates enough to bring it back up at the end. Hamada hits Casas with a headbutt so Panther just straight up kicks him in the chest as he's got him in a submission. That's the kind of violence I can appreciate. Santo's senton into the dive through the ropes is totally a spot that would have seen light of day in one of those chaotic Shield 6-mans from 2013. Great start.

Isn't it a case that more and more younger people have new, more convenient ways to watch than tuning in live though? Not to defend them as Rollins, in particular, had a total business tanking quality run on top but aren't TV ratings meaning less and less these days?
-
2008 dropped and they're flying through 2009 too so there's every chance the entire run will be up in the next few days

Digging into Night 1 now and one thing jumped out immediately. I thought Jay Lethal put on a really strong performance in the match with Page. The selling of the ribs was sound but everything (bar his finisher) connected nicely and looked really crisp. As someone that hasn't seen Lethal for a while, I feel like I need to dig into more of his recent work. Does he have any more short, well-put together matches like that?

Finished it last night and enjoyed it. I didn't love it but it was definitely an easy watch. I won't repeat what others are saying but I got a very 'Orange is the New Black' vibe from the characterisation and dialogue; you get the sense that a Season 2 would bring certain characters forward and give them a chance to develop more.

That rules. It'll be a shame to wait for a while for the years it was actually good but I haven't seen those original, weird 2006 shows since they aired, pretty much.

Shit, that pop for The Hardys was ridiculous. McIntyre and The Hardys are two A+ picks to throw out over Mania weekend.
-
They're flying through them too. I guess they spend the first part of the month getting the old uploads ready and then fire them out in the last week as they're preparing for what comes next.
-
That's a hell of a lot of matches. The pre-show will be a PPV card to itself at that rate.
-
Pretty big night of Raw last night with the Bailey title win and Owens turning on Jericho. Does Charlotte do the usual thing of dropping the belt on TV and then gaining it back on PPV?
-
I'm happy that Miz and Maryse are getting a high profile Mania match as their act has been fantastic for about a year now. I'm expecting the Chamber to be a great match, Becky/Mickie to be a real solid affair and I'm hoping that The Usos are out first in the Tag Team Turmoil, dispatch everyone quickly and we get a real long AA/Usos tag match to finish it.

I'd love to see an Amazing Red WWE/NXT run from, say, 2013-onward though he may have been too small to even get signed now. Him bumping like a mad man for Sheamus sounds like a fun time to me.

They can't use NO ESCAPE because it's a WWE film starring Seth Rollins in 2018. Probably

Well, given the rumors of Nikki Bella retiring after Wrestlemania, who knows if hell will freeze over and Cena proposes to Nikki after their match. They would sell this as a wedding even bigger than Randy Savage & Miss Elizabeth at Summerslam 1991. Man, I'd love that just for it getting booed out of the building
