Loss
Talk about it here.
Loss
Before the match, Austin introduces a woman named Jeanne - "the sexiest girl in the world" and his new valet. She says it's wonderful to be there with a real man like Steve. This is what we saw Adams' reacting to in the earlier segment. Chris Adams is out and gets in an argument with Jeanne. She ends up slapping him. He walks away, but looks like there's about to be hell to pay. Austin makes easy work of "Frog Legs LeBlanc", as Ronnie P. Gossett calls him. Post-match, Marc Lowrance asks Jeanne why she slapped Chris Adams and she simply says no comment.
PeteF3
Austin's future star power is evident here, though his ringwork could kindly be described as "raw." He sounds way, way more confident on the mic and particularly in how to work the crowd than Foley does at this point. We see the debut of Jeannie and we've already found out the story here. Adams sort of looks like a chump in the way he walks away after getting slapped. At one time I was convinced that "Frogman Leblanc" was a name that had to have been made up in PWI. soup23
Austin is starting to find his voice and introduces Jeanne. Frogman may be one of the worst jobbers we have seen and Austin certainly is not seasoned enough to carry someone at this point. Ronnie and Marc are a poor man version of Ross and Cornette. Adams comes down and takes a shot to the delight of Gossett. They definitely say that they know each other in the first segment.
shoe
Austin is already developing into a good interview. I would love to see how Lawler would have worked a match with him at his early stages.
Kevin Ridge
Austin wants to bring out the most beautiful woman. Out comes Jeannie. With Jeannie at his side, Austin will go to the very top and be World Champion. Announcer Marc seemed to be kind of blowing off Austin here. Austin’s opponent is Frogman. Adams comes out to confront Jeannie. I think things are out of order here as Adams previously had a promo about Jeannie and they are playing it up here not wondering what is going on. Austin uses a double underhook suplex. I can’t recall him using that one in WWF.
Cox
He probably doesn't do a double undertook suplex in the WWF because it looks like shit here. Good interview with Austin and Jeannie. I like how they don't come out and say right away that Jeannie is Chris Adams' wife and get two good segments out of the story. Austin is still raw as hell, but works with good intensity, and appears to be a good enough athlete to where you can see he will eventually be quite a good worker, even if he isn't there yet. Also, is it me or are the ropes disproportionately loose in the Dallas USWA? Frogman LeBlanc is amazing in every way. The name, the tights, the body, the lack of tan, the hair...everything about him screams prelim guy. When Steve Austin showed up for the first day of class at Chris Adams' training school, you know the first thing that went through Adams' mind is, "That man is going to be a World champion someday." When Frogman LeBlanc showed up for his first day of class at his wrestling training school, the first thing that went through his trainer's mind is, "That guy is going to know exactly how many lights the ceiling has at the Dallas Sportatorium before his career is over." TravJ1979
Interesting to note, I believe Frogman was Steve's first TV match of his career as well. My favorite part of this is Ronnie Gossett saying "She's over with me" after she slaps Adams.
garretta
Nice squash for Stunning Steve, but the story here is Adams getting the taste slapped out of his mouth by his ex-wife. She sounds like she knows her way around the mic at least a little, so it'll be interesting to see how big a part she takes in the ongoing Austin/Adams feud. I guess this also means that Austin's stay in Devastation Inc. is over. I wonder if we might see Gossett in his corner at some point, as Ronnie himself hinted. Austin may not have the in-ring skill he would later, but he's more than halfway to Stone Cold mic-wise. It's a shame he was probably too green to go to Memphis regularly at this time, as he would have been a fresh heel on that side of the promotion, which needed one desperately. drew wardlaw
I love watching these early promos and finding seeds of Stone Cold. Cool to see this feud heating up.
GSR
Austin comes out for a chat with Marc Lowrance. He says his career is going better than ever, but first of all he’s got someone he wants to introduce; the sexiest girl in all of America, the gorgeous, the lovely, Jeannie. Lowrance questions who is Jeannie? Austin repeats himself, ‘the sexiest girl in America’ and the only woman good enough for the ‘Stunning’ one, Steve Austin. Jeannie walks out and Lowrance again asks who is she and what is her relationship with him, but he tells him it’s none of his business. Jeannie says how wonderful it is to be with a real man like Steve and Austin says that with Jeannie by his side he can’t be defeated and he will be the World Heavyweight champion! Austin gets a chair for Jeannie to sit in and she prepares to watch his upcoming match from ringside. Austin is facing Frogman LeBlanc, but during the match Chris Adams comes down to ringside and heads straight over to Jeannie. The two of them exchange some heated looking words with Lowrance speculating that it looks like they know one another. Jeannie slaps Adams which shocks him and he tells her ‘that’s it’, before returning to the back. Austin defeats LeBlanc with a Samoan drop and after the match Lowrance questions Jeannie on why she slapped Adams? She says she has ‘no comment’ on that at the moment and Austin also has ‘no comment’, but blondes have more fun and they’re on their way to the top. Best Austin interview so far and he’s come on leaps and bounds on that front. Although still green in the ring there is a noticeable improvement on that front as well, and this is the first time we see him leading a match. This feud has just picked up with the arrival of Jeannie and now roll on Toni!
dawho5
Austin cuts a good promo, Adams is upset with his choice of women. Why Adams, the guy who has the temper, is walking away after that slap is beyond me. Austin and Jeannie are tight-lipped about her connection to Adams. El-P
Jeannie doesn't get nearly the credit she deserves for being the greatest creative mind of the 90's. "Stevie honey, drink your tea before it gets stone cold." Yeah, Austin was raw. Wouldn't be too long before he would be RAW. He definitely showed potential as early as this as far as promo and look and carrying himself. Jeannie at his side doesn't hurt either, she's gorgeous. I actually like how Adams doesn't retaliate. Doesn't hit his former wife. Good. Good also how they don't say she's his ex-wife from the get-go. I'm kinda offended by the awfully stereotypical cajun name of that jobber.
