People thinking that Vince would throw Sheamus in the doghouse and de-push him over losing a scrap with Hunico seem to be missing the fact that Vince has ceded control in these matters to Hunter. Yes, the buck stops with Vince still, but this is Hunter's territory now.

And Batista definitely was de-pushed for a while after the thing with Booker. They also supposedly lost a lot of faith in Goldberg after he couldn't do anything against Jericho.

On Kane, the problem is he's been around forever. How many wrestlers/characters have been on tv constantly for almost 17 years in the same company and not gotten stale? I think it's impressive that they've changed the character up enough over the years and been able to freshen him up and recycle the gimmick. I think as a worker he's serviceable with some positive attributes.....athletic, moves really well for his size, good timing, etc. And like someone said, the character doesn't lend itself to high end matches necessarily.

If they did individual Shield-Evolution matches I'd probably do HHH-Ambrose, Batista-Rollins and Orton-Reigns.

The scrap with Booker & Batista happened right at SummerSlam time. They held off on having Dave take the belt off Booker from August until November at the Survivor Series. Hardly seems like much of a de-push though, considering that Dave was still involved heavily in the main event mix that entire time. PERHAPS they slightly cooled his jets for a month or two, but in NO way was it an actual punishment.

I don't think that timeline is correct - Batista hadn't returned from his injury yet when it happened, because I remember a big thing was the concern that he could have been reinjured. I think the fight happened in May, some time before the Judgment Day PPV. I remember the Sharmell/Melina fight happened right after (that JBL of all people broke up), and the fallout of it all was the burial of Melina on the JD PPV.

Just google'd it, and it was at the Summerslam commercial shoot, which was May, Booker wasn't even champion yet. I hate to credit WrestleZone with anything, but the link below has a story on it in May 2006.

Point is, the fight happened and I think the so-called "de-push" was more about not getting the belt back straight away and people twisting Vince's arm to get him to do it in November. It was clearly nothing long term, doubt it would be for Sheamus either.

I still don't see how Batista was given more than a slight slap on the wrist, if that.

More interesting aspect to me here (looking back now) is just HOW MUCH of Booker's big heel push that year COULD have started building some real steam in the back AFTER this incident. Hmm. Makes ya wonder, and it's just the kind of environment that ya think would reward that sort of thing.

I mean, yeah. Booker's king act and the whole dynamic with Sharmell was OVER, but still... Interesting to consider, if nothing else...

3MB as McIntyre/Slater would work really well as a sort of proto Edge & Christian duo. Mahal doesn't fit their vibe at all. They are over even after losing every week, maybe even because of losing every week. A push as an underdog tag team would work really well, either as faces beating the odds or as cowardly heels sneakingly pulling out unlikely wins.

Not to jump on the bandwagon, but this Bryan/Brie/Kane/Stephanie angle is absolutely horrid. I don't really blame any of the workers because they are doing the best they can with absolute garbage to work with. What they're doing in this angle is the sort of ridiculously stupid nonsense that makes me shake my head as a wrestling fan.

If HHH was going to wrestle for the next two pay-per-views, I think Extreme Rules headlined by Bryan vs HHH in another match would have done well. If HHH wins, Bryan shaves his beard, gives up "Yes!" and never asks for another title shot again. If Bryan wins, HHH and Stephanie would go on Raw the next night and each have to admit that Daniel Bryan is an A+ player.

Normally I would agree but there was a sense among a lot of fans that they wanted Bryan/Trips to be over with especially after a Bryan clean win because you never know how another match would go finish wise. The old quit while you are ahead theory.

I really didn't want a HHH/Bryan gimmick match, but now I don't think it could have been any less compelling then the Kane match. As far as Payback, have there been any good Buried Alive matches? I'm drawing a blank. Taker/Mankind maybe?

Could definitely see Slater/McIntyre working like Honky Tonk Man, but with the tag belts instead of the IC belt.

On SD they edited the Bryan Kane stuff to make it look more like Bryan was protecting Brie. Still terrible but it made it seem like Bryan was only concerned for Brie.

I shudder to think what they have planned for Monday. Just end this stuff at Payback

Oh and the comentary was outwardly comparing it to a horror movie

Sheamus-Ambrose from Smackdown was excellent and one of the best matches of the year. They beat the crap out of each other.

Was just coming to post this. A real slugfest of a match with Ambrose being absolutely spectacular. I love how he incorporates Nigel's lariat and thought the transition to Sheamus' 10 count spot was one of the most natural I've seen for a while. It was almost like Sheamus saw him on the ropes and thought "fuck it, I'm going to hit this dude in the chest a lot". Really loved the finish too, the Brogue Kick to the outside spot was great and I really loved Ambrose's crawl back in for the ten count. Just another crazily good match to add to WWE's list this year.

This makes it sound like I'm discrediting Sheamus' role in the match but I'm not; he was, and has all year, been super great. I would love to see an extended Sheamus/Mark Henry series for the US Title.

I have kind of fallen in love with Dean Ambrose: punch-drunk babyface in a way I never expected to. I can't put my finger on it, I just like watching him get beat up and cheering for, what I hope, is a win. It is a strange comparison, but he reminds me of old man Terry Funk in the best kind of way.

His selling reminds me a bit more of younger, AJPW Funk. The way he flops and shakes and teeeeters back before falling over. Either way, he's been a revelation as a face and great as a FIP.
