Dylan Waco
I thought the whole thing was funny to the point where I was literally laughing out loud listening to it at work this morning. The best part was Alvarez was taken aback the same way many fans of stuff like DragonGate are when I start shitting on the things I hate about those matches. Another great moment was when he said it wasn't believable, as if something like Elgin v. Richards which he loved, or other more "well executed" are more believable than two big guys flying at each other sloppily. I think I understood his point, but that's an awful word to use as a weapon to beat that match with, particularly if you are a guy falling over yourself with praise for T-Hawk matches. Also got a good chuckle over Meltzer talking about WWE matches like they are jokes compared to the G1. Granted I wasn't nearly as high on Ambrose v. Cesaro as Bryan, but the idea that the Christ like New Japan can not be compared to the heathen others milling about in the WWE made me laugh. And this is coming from someone who is really high on this years G-1 and New Japan in general right now
Badlittlekitten
Meltzer's always been kind of weird and reluctant in praising Cena's in ring work. I literally can't bear to watch the Bellas. I think this is probably why everyone seems to have enjoyed Raw more than I did. Not even Steph the almighty can drag the broomstick out of Brie's backside. My favourite act is being wasted. And Ambrose wasn't even there!
BillThompson
Things like Dave's NJPW/WWE comparisons and him stating that sloppiness is somehow indicative of indie wrestling are not high points in his career.
Loss
In fairness, he wasn't comparing NJPW to WWE, he was comparing New Japan's biggest match season of the year to an episode of Raw that we'll likely forget soon. Dave wasn't the one who was setting out to make that point. Bryan was the one who brought it up and Dave just responded to him. What I thought was more interesting was ... something that I'll post in the Dave Meltzer stuff thread.
Guest Eduardo James
After hearing WOR, I really hate Dave now. He actually made me side with Bryan on something. Cena was a bit sloppy, but he made it sound like Cena was an invalid. He's always had this goofy quasi-snobbery with puroresu that's usually harmless, but his love does border on weaboo fetishism at times.
ohtani's jacket
What's so contentious about claiming that New Japan is better than WWE?
Guest Eduardo James
Nothing. He just comes across as everything in NJPW is automatically better by virtue of it being NJPW. Somewhat like saying a 5 star WWE match is worse than a 5 star NJPW match.Edit: Jack Swagger vs. Cesaro kicks off SmackDown. Swagger wins with the Patriot Lock. Rusev and Lana come out after the match for a promo. Zeb responds and the challenge is accepted. Swagger vs. Rusev is on for SummerSlam. !@#$

Dylan Waco
They were talking about Cesaro v. Ambrose from SD which Bryan was pushing as something Dave needed to see.
Russellmania
I was looking at Meltzer star ratings over the years last night and learned that he gave the Cena/Umaga Last Man Standing match 4 stars so I am of the mind that his opinion is total bullshit and has been for years

Russellmania
too low, that matchis a masterpiece
Jimmy Redman
That same match and rating is what I always think about when Meltzer's ratings come up. When you think of all the comparable WWE main events that he rated ****1/4 or higher...it's baffling.
BillThompson
Star ratings really aren't something to quibble over. Wrestling is subjective, people will have different opinions than you. A match you think is a masterpiece someone else will think is only pretty good or maybe even pretty terrible. One of the things that drove me away from film criticism was the idea that certain opinions are right and certain opinions are wrong. Instead of that mentality people should accept the subjectiveness of what they are watching and choose to look at the meat of what someone is saying as opposed to just their star rating. shoe
Another reason the WWE seems so stale right now is they lost the guy they were pushing in Bryan. Then they broke up the 2nd hottest act in the company in the Shield. Another guy getting traction was Barrett and he gets hurt . Also with creative since they don't like to heat up people simultaneously they cooled off Cesaro and then Shemus has cooled off as well. So essentially everyone is mid card for the most. Badlittlekitten
OMG OMG OMG OMG!! It's like WWE reached deep into my unconsciousness and pulled out the one thing I never realised I really REALLY fucking wanted. Team Slater Gator! Seriously, Heath and Titus as the dysfunctional, bickering but ultimately lovable odd couple is ingenious and whoever put them together needs a raise. And it can't stop here, I want a Team Hell No push with breakdowns, psychotherapy, hugs, the lot. Seeing as they love cultural stereotypes so much Titus needs to come out of this full on hick, fiddling with his Hank Williams, straw dangling out the mouth. I've no interest in their big programs but I think they're doing a fairly good job with their mid card acts right now. That's probably why I enjoyed Main Event far more than Raw. Not just Slater Gator but a Tyson Kid sighting! More Disgruntled Black Guy Trio, Usos/Rybaxel and the awesome Ambrose/ADR match. Fun show.
Coffey
Do you watch NXT at all? It's a fun, weekly hour of TV too. Tyson Kidd has been on there quite a bit lately. Along with the ex El Generico & some other fun stuff.
Badlittlekitten
Used to love NXT I but haven't caught up with it since their last special. I think the bloom is off the rose for me. Since Bray and Bo came up there's little left on the roster that inspires me. Neville, Graves and Mojo Rawley I outright don't want to watch. Has Solemn Crow turn up yet? I hear they've given Rebecca Knox the mentally retarded dancer gimmick which put me off checking her out. Steen, Kenta, Devitt and Willie turning up will certainly reignite my interest though. Coffey
Last few times I've seen Mojo he was just put in the jobber role of squash matches, namely to Tyler Breeze whom is the #1 contender. Graves' career is over apparently, after having another concussion. I think they dropped the whole "jig" part of Knox after the first week. Neville is still there, still the champ & still kind of boring. No Crow that I've seen yet or remember. They put Aiden English with Simon Gotch as "The Vaudevillains" & their entrance/gimmick is pretty fun. Ascension is still tag champs.
Badlittlekitten
Thanks. All positive steps! Has CJ Parker been struck down with a career ending injury yet? I've been meaning to check out the tag division, I like Baron Corbin and some of the other random dudes that show up.
Coffey
No, CJ Parker has some new "save the Earth" hippie heel gimmick. He got rid of the Van Hammer hippie gimmick & now walks around the crowd with signs like "There is no Planet B" & shit. He's also still awful in the ring. Jmare007
PWInsider via wrestlinginc: - As noted, WWE will hold an earnings call tomorrow and reveal the latest WWE Network subscriber count. We've also noted how mass layoffs are expected. The number being mentioned the most is that 10% of WWE's employees will lose their jobs. The mass layoffs could be announced to keep Wall Street happy.
