They should use Ryback's time off to bring him back as a megaface again

I'm absolutely down with this. The rise and fall of Ryback is still something which makes me shake my head; they should have rolled the dice with him whilst he was hot. The numbers the HITC PPV with Punk got in contrast to the other PPV's around it clearly show people were behind Ryback and were tuning in to see whether he was to be the next big thing.

It was just bad timing though. Ryback wasn't in any way ready to be the next big thing, but was shoved into the spot when Cena got hurt. It was too early to beat Punk when he was hot as the heel champ, and too early to boost Ryback into the main event. It was total NWA/WCW Dusty booking where Punk=Flair and Ryback=Luger, and they didn't want either to lose, so they just did a bunch of bullshit finishes which didn't help either of them, and actively hurt Ryback's momentum

I was saying at the time and have said all along that they should have have taken the slow path with Ryback, they were building him to the IC/US title at the time, and he could have ran with one of those belts as a monster for a while, before they elevated him, ala Ultimate Warrior. But they panicked and hot shotted him too soon and the rest is history

WWE getting desperate and rushing Ryback to feud with Punk when Cena got injured was a dumb idea, but what was even more idiotic was Ryback's booking after the Punk feud. There wasn't even a small attempt to revamp his character, they just kept putting him in bad positions and make him job every damn PPV.

The DVR-less nature is this:

Raw, like sports, is live. If you miss it, then you're immediately behind in what's going on and the story doesn't seem as fresh. When you're watching it in that moment, you're part of something that's happening right then and there. I'm not explaining it well, but being live matters and it matters to this DVR issue.

The reason it's important to watch sports live is because it matters who wins or loses.

I know when I was younger, I was excited to see just even who was going to come out next, because I didn't know. What match were they going to put on next? I had to know, just like how I'd stay up half an hour later than I should to see the smackdown spoilers on Tuesday nights when they were on the west coast. I imagine there's an element of that. I'd almost put it more to a sports Draft, than the sport itself.

You need to look at a few things. Firstly, fans were getting bored of Ryback and his squashes pre Punk. I think they should have left him in development to be able to work on his matches some more instead of bringing him up to squash people for months on end which was bound to get stale. People were getting bored of that act until he stood up to Punk. So there is no method of giving him time so to speak. You either rolled the dice on him, or you pulled him (or fucked him, which they did). Considering the fans were into him, and that's the important point here by going by the PPV numbers, they had nothing to lose by giving him a go. People liked Ryback because he was a beast. Once that was taken away from him the air came out of his balloon.

I think Ryback wasn't really fucked till WrestleMania 29.

I know Mark Henry is a favorite of some people here, but Ryback needed to win there more than any other match he'd had the previous 4 months against Punk or the Shield. Plus, it was Ryback, not Henry, who ended up as Cena's next opponent, while Henry didn't challenge for the title until July.

Personally, I don't think he's improved THAT much since then, but I think he has an "it" factor that comes across in his promos and matches. In protected settings, against good workers, there's no reason you can't make money off the guy. Fortunately, when you look at the WWE roster, there are enough guys that can make Ryback look good, that he doesn't need to be great himself to be in great matches down the line.

I was reading about a mark (I mean shareholder) lawsuit about how WWE worked (I mean made claims) him into investing in their company. Anyways, apparently one of the claims was that their programming "DVR-Proof" BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHA!!!! Thats the biggest joke ever! Their programming is perfect for DVR. Who the hell can actually sit through 3 hours straight of that! With all the commericals and video packages, you can get it done in a tidy 1-1.5 hours with the magic of fast forward. RAW is unwatchable in its current state. You NEED the DVR. That may be the funniest claim I think a wrestling company has ever made.

I don't know the context of what you're talking about, but I find WWE hard to dvr because they always run over and I miss the last five minutes of the show. And on the WWE app they do a lot of "two screen experience" stuff where you didn't get to see the ending of a match unless you were using the app (implying you had to watch the app live, the tv show live, and not dvring it). So I'm just speaking to WWE's claim of being dvr proof, they do at least try to make it so the viewer gets more out of it if they watch the show live. I dvr it myself and couldn't sit through a 3 hour Raw live.

I have just set my DVR to run 20 minutes over. I agree it is an extra step in the advanced settings. It is hardly insurmountable hurdle, but Lord knows there are people who won't do it. I have never ever seen them miss the finish of a match and just play it on the app and I have missed one RAW in like the last 2-3 years.

I can see your point about how the App "enhances" the live experience. To take it further, if you want to be apart of the Twitter conversation or vote for whether you see a "No Holds Barred, No Dq or Falls Count Anywhere" stip then yes you have to watch it live. These are all things they can point to. They don't hold water with me as a fan, but with others maybe they do.

Don't forget the App only enhances the live experience for those watching the east coast feed. It's pretty much useless out west unless your TV provider offers both feeds.

Michael Sam is just invited to Raw, right? To me, odds are he won't accept. He just turned pro and was a somewhat high draft pick, his NFL career isn't over just yet.

Or there's the chance (remote at best) they have a "Damien Samdow" character. But I don't see that happening either.

Triple H will be Jericho's podcast this week. Well holy shit. What have we come to?

This will be the first time that I listen to Chris Jericho's Podcast, apparently!

Seriously? You've been missing out my friend....

The Michael Sam stuff on RAW felt like such a desperate grab for attention. Even if he was going to be on the show, what is the point? He's going to cut a promo? Why? It just reeks of desperation and has "bad idea" written all over. Even if whatever bullshit they've cooked up here goes over well......there's nothing about this "angle" that makes the company look swell

He was picked in the final round, 7 from Mr Irrelevant in fact. There's every chance he won't get picked up.

You are right, I must have been mixed up. Still don't see him being on Raw. Guess you can't blame WWE for trying to fetch some publicity. Just don't know what's in it for him if he shows up.

sam got cut from the rams, but he played very well in the preseason and they're the most loaded NFL team at his position (defensive line). hardly a death blow to his football career, and i would expect him to catch on with a practice squad elsewhere. everyone seems to have said nothing but nice things re: his work ethic & not being a locker-room distraction like many were afraid he would. the attention regarding the latter all seems to be directed at ESPN rather than sam himself.

all this is to say that there's no way in hell he becomes a wrestler at this point. not even close.
