Cross Face Chicken Wing
I just finished Will's Buddy Rose set and am now 100 percent convinced that Buddy was the best of all time at taking backdrops. He looked out of shape and on the big side, so when he went up to take the backdrop, that was impressive in and of itself. He usually got some big air and landed hard, which is also essential. Finally, he was awkward and uncoordinated enough that the backdrop didn't look totally like a staged fake wrestling move. Combine all that with Buddy's facial expressions and selling after landing (and sometimes during the backdrop if the camera angle was right) and you got the best taker of backdrops of all time. Dylan Waco
You are very close to the right answer, but not quite there. The right answer is actually Doug Somers, the only guy I've ever seen who took that move in a way that made it look like a finisher
BrickHithouse
Billy Gunn took it well. Maybe not the best, but he's the first guy I thought of.
NintendoLogic
Am I the only one who saw the thread title and thought of a backdrop suplex rather than a back body drop?
WingedEagle
Nope. In which case the winner was All Japan.
JerryvonKramer
Am I the only one who saw the thread title and thought of a backdrop suplex rather than a back body drop? There is a move that is called a backdrop that is similar to a back suplex. At least according to late 80s Jim Ross. I'm guessing this thread is about the move from the ropes though. "He put his head down! Well that was a cardinal mistake for a pro"
Loss
Bobby Eaton, Negro Casas, Billy Joe Travis and Ric Flair are the first people that come to mind for me, probably in that order.
Guest TheGreatPuma
Ravishing Rick Rude and the Dynamite Kid. I know I'm forgetting others.
Gregor
Oddly enough, given that Buddy Rose and Doug Somers were the first two names listed, the guys who came to my mind when I saw the thread title were the Rockers.
PeteF3
This thread feels empty without any mention of Pat Tanaka.
Cross Face Chicken Wing
Ravishing Rick Rude and the Dynamite Kid. I know I'm forgetting others. Rude was a good one. He could make a backdrop (or back body drop, whatever you want to call it) look like an audition for a spot on the Olympic gymnastics team. shoe
Eaton was the king. I thought Koko in Memphis took some huge ones.
Cox
Whenever I think of back body drops, I always think of Marty Jannetty at the 1990 Survivor Series. He got so much air on that one, he still hasn't come back down yet.

Kevin Ridge
Hamada! I'd go with the Rockers as they would get some serious height against the heavyweights in WWF. Pat Tanaka also gets my vote with his flippy 360 sell on the back drop.
Sidebottom
Dynamite Kid and Shawn Michaels came to mind - incidentally two guys who messed up their backs. The height they used to get was mental.
EricR
Todd Morton's backdrop bumps are incredible.
Smack2k
Complete opposite, but still relating to a backdrop.. The single WORST backdrop in the HISTORY of this sport is Hogan's from Andre on the floor at Mania 3. Hogan goes for piledriver, Andre takes like 30 seconds to stand up, Hogan slides down his back SLOWLY and falls to floor, and sells it like he was 10 feet in the air.. I was 8 and knew it was a shit move.... If you dont remember it or if it was THAT bad...look it up.

Graham Crackers
Man, the air that Hamada gets when he gets backdropped is insane.
