WWE Network... It's Here

I don't understand this talk about an easy "clean tape library" when it comes to Mid South or SMW. You still have to take out the real music in the TV shows and I figure some local stuff will be edited out. I am not sure about Smokey Mountain I can't remember how their music was. The idea that you can just put it on the network now seems foolish. Now how long does it take to edit all this stuff I don't know

I agree that putting a couple episodes of RAW 1999 that was shown in the "Best of RAW" shows instead of the usual shows in the "Raw Flashback" is a bad idea since the rest of RAW seems to be moving along smoothly. it is confusing people that think they are just putting random shit out there.

If I'm paying $60, I should get at least as good an experience as what I can get just searching for random matches on Youtube. I feel ripped off that I got it expecting to watch some old territory stuff not easily available and instead they seem focused on recent PPVs and Raw soap opera shit that's already all over the usual video streaming sites that can I download from and not deal with annoying buffering problems. You can't even say it's mainly the music editing since they have a shitload of material from Classics on Demand they can easily put up.

Bottom line they should have stuff like libraries ready to go at launch. If they weren't ready to roll it out, they should have waited. This was a gamble on the WWE's part. They should have been ready to try to hit a home run. Not a lot of singles that can be turned into double plays that can wipe out momentum .

The constant pushing of the Live Stream is just dumb. The only thing that should be pushed on the live stream is 1st run or original material.

They should just ditch the live stream or reduce it to prime time.

Apparently they are showing a "Best of Nitro" at 11:00 tonight. Not sure if this is going to be like the Smackdown Replays that I figure will turn to all of them showing or different

That is one of the other biggest issues with the Network. Of all the places to cut money the Network is the LAST place I would think of.

I think it's the DVD they put out hosted by DDP minus the matches.

They also have almost every episode of World Championship Wrestling from 1985 through almost 1988. They have Wrestling Challenge from it's start in 1986 to sometime in 1990 ready from the Online 24/7. They likewise have Superstars from post-Survivor Series in 1990 to almost 1993 ready to go. I'm really not trying to bitch about the service. It just reeks of a lack of effort on their part. You could literally have someone who just works on editing the episodes and be able to crank out an episode per territory per week. I think people would be completely happy with that. Hell, they could just go on a tape trading site, get the SMW television on DVD in perfect order, edit out the music and it's ready to go.

There is still enough content for me to make it worth it. Lots of PPVS I have never seen that I still have to get around to. Would like more variety though with other shows/territories. Went to watch episode of Raw from 95 this morning but it was missing while the following four episodes were up. Still not getting the best live picture either as it skips backwards a few seconds to the point where I will end up a few minutes behind the actual live feed when watching a PPV.

The problem is that they haven't got much cash reserves left to fund heavy investment into the Network. This isn't a decade ago when they had well over $300 million sitting there unspent. Cash in hand is likely below $65 million and they already borrowed money to buy their new corporate plane.

I get that it takes time to upload video and clean it up, but they've been talking about this network for three years. They should have gotten a good jump on that, along with all the stuff they used on Classics on Demand for the 5 years that was running.

Yeah it is Best of WCW Nitro Vol 1 DVD. I guess they are going to split into 4 or 5 segments like they use to on Classics with non-documentary like DVD's

I'd like to mention another big issue with the network: awful customer service. Videos still don't play when I try to access the Network via my mac mini computer, and my only options for support are to call an outsourced call center where the people barely are understandable and only can do the very basic troubleshooting, or try via email and get obviously cut and pasted replies that don't fit the question being asked. I tried the email route and their reply bot thinks a mac mini is a device like a Roku or Apple TV and is trying to tell me they don't support it.

For pretty much anything other than billing, which they can't access, @AskWWENetwork is much better than the call center.

That call center, though...what the HELL? It's among the worst I've ever dealt with in every way possible.

Apparently WWE have been sending out "beta test" emails to selected international customers offering free access until August 4th. It looks ike they are eager to get a bump in subscription numbers right after what most likely will be disappointing performance during the upcoming quarterly review.

From the Observer:

"The WWE has purchased positioning on a transponder on a c-band satellite, which is what cable networks use to send their signals, but for the WWE Network. The network is on the same transponder with Bloomberg and Reelz. Networks usually share transponders to share costs, but this means they are paying a significant amount of money to transport a signal that would be normally used by cable and satellite companies to bring in a station. It opened a lot of speculation but WWE sources say its not significant of anything."

If the network is still going to be online-only, what is the point of paying for this?

Is it possible that the loss in PPV hurt the satellite companies as well? And that now that both sides have taken the hit, the new agreement will be that the satellite companies carry the WWE Network as a way to replace PPV revenue for both parties?

It might be a way to get the Network into countries that don't have the infastructure to handle a streaming service like this.

Except don't you still need to be in/near the US to pull the signal in if it's on a transponder shared with American cable networks?

You can pick up satellite signals from anywhere in the world if you know where to point the dish.

If that was true, the guys with backyard dishes in the '90s would've been taping Japanese TV.

Or is that only on the consumer end and a pro setup picks up anything?
