Wow nice job on Last Stand! That is how to book a supercard. Great twist with all the Von Erich's losing on a huge event...in Texas. The Gordy angle was epic. The Reed/JYD street fight is exactly how I remembered their feud. All four wrestlers in the cage match would of delivered exactly the way you wrote it. What can I say about the 3 way for the world title except incredible. I enjoyed the card from top to bottom. Excellent job!

Shreveport, Louisiana

“Hello again everybody. Welcome to USWA WRESTLING from Shreveport, Louisiana and Irish McNeil’s Boys Club. I am Jim Ross and my partner today is the Big Cat, Ernie Ladd. Today is our year end awards show where we honor some of the great wrestlers we have here in the USWA.

Jim Ross: “It is time to hand out our first award; USWA Rookie of the Year. First the nominees:

Cpl. Kirchner: One ½ of the great tag team known as the Fort Bragg Brotherhood. Cpl Kirchner and Don Kernodle defeated some great teams this year including The Japanese Assassins and The Red Assassins.

Mike VonErich: What a rookie campaign for the younger VonErich brother. He successfully partnered with his older brothers to defeat the Freebirds to become the first ever USWA World Tag Team Champions. He feuded with his cousin Lance VonErich who he defeated in the Devastation Inc. Submission Challenge.

Sam Houston: Young Sam Houston feuded and defeated Terry Taylor on many occasions this year. He also partnered with Wildfire Tommy Rich in a great string of victories over Taylor and the Cuban Assassin.

Dan Spivey: A great rookie season where he has yet to lose in the USWA. Currently his winning streak stands at 10!

Before we get to hear the winner, a highlight video of each wrestler is played. Jim Ross really hypes up the work by Cowboy Bill Watt’s son, Erik who has set all these videos tapes that we will see tonight to some great music.

Jim Ross explains that the winner will receive this beautiful trophy behind him. He asks Ernie Ladd to do the honors of opening the envelope and reading the winner.

Ernie Ladd rips open the envelop and seems disgusted right off the bat. “Of course, what else would I expect. Daddy even controls the awards in this company. Your winner is Mike Von Erich.

Mike Von Erich comes out and ignores Ernie Ladd and simply says that he is honored to win this award and that he knows there are many other great young wrestlers here in the USWA and that he will have to stay on his guard if he is to keep having success.

WHAM!

From behind, Dan Spivey clocks VonErich with the trophy and starts screaming there is no way that Mike VonErich would stand a chance in the ring with him. He continues to stomp a hole in VonErich and is livid at not being named rookie of the year. Finally when Spivey is done, we see a bloodied Mike VonErich along with a floor littered with pieces of the trophy.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

When we come out of break, Jim Ross apologizes for the tactics of Spivey while Ernie Ladd apologizes for Mike Von Erich winning the Rookie of the year award.

Jim Ross then moves on to hyping up all the great tag teams we have seen in the USWA. This year. He rattles off about 10 of them including The Sheepherders, The Fabulous Ones, The Perfect Alliance, The VonErich Brothers, Tommy Rich & Dusty Rhodes, Tommy Rich & Jerry Lawler, Devastation Inc. Ole & Arn Anderson and Killer Khan & Mr. Saito. He goes on to explain that just to be nominated for this award is a great accomplishment.

The Nominees for USWA TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR:

1. The Sheepherders: Luke Williams and Butch Miller were one of two teams who have held both the USWA World Tag Title and the USWA National Tag Team Titles. Wins over such great teams as Tommy Rich and Dusty Rhodes and the Fabulous Ones!

2. The Perfect Alliance with Baby Doll: The only two time winner of the USWA World Tag Titles with wins over such great tag teams as the Fabulous Ones and The VonErichs.

3. The Fabulous Ones: Steve Keirn and Stan Lane were the other team to hold both the World and National Tag Titles. They also hold the record for the longest USWA World Tag Team Title reign.

4. Jerry Lawler & Tommy Wildfire Rich: The first USWA World Tag Team Champions. They won the titles after outlasting 8 other really tough teams including the Sheepherders and Ole and Arn Anderson.

A video showing all of these teams is shown before Jim Ross turns it over to Ernie Ladd for the opening of the envelop.

Ernie Ladd: Finally the USWA gets one right. Your winner and USWA Tag Team of the Year is your two time and current World Tag Team Champions: The Perfect Alliance.

We see Baby Doll lead out Arn Anderson and Bobby Eaton where they do a good job of showing their cockiness. No thankyous here; just the know it all attitude that they know they are the best.

Jim Ross: At least we know you are humble. I wonder if 1985 will be as good as 1984 was for you.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

When we come out of the break Jim Ross explains that our next two awards; The USWA Most Popular Wrestler of the Year and The USWA Most Hated Wrestler of the Year were chosen directly by the fans of the USWA during all of the house shows over the last month.

The USWA Most Popular Wrestler of 1984

1. Tommy Wildfire Rich: When Tommy gets all Firrrrrreeeeed Up, the fans go Wild!

2. Junk Yard Dog: Another One Bites the Dust, Dog Chains and a little Howling at the Moon. Enough said!

3. Dusty Rhodes: The American Dream rally gets the fans going as he takes on the evil with his dancing, jiving and Bionic Elbows!

4. Kerry VonErich: Now the girls down in Texas really love them some Kerry VonErich. The Modern Day Warrior has tornado punched his way into the hearts of all the USWA wrestling fans.

As Ernie Ladd rips open the envelop we see an unhappy Big Cat as he truly dislikes all of the nominees. He sullenly announces the winner as Junk Yard Dog!

As Another on Bites the Dust blares form the speakers, an excited JYD comes out and thanks all the wonderful fans of the USWA.

Jim Ross wonders what the reaction will be from the winner of our next award… The USWA Most Hated Wrestler of the Year. The nominations are

1. Ernie Ladd: Jim Ross can’t help himself but says this one has his vote.

2. Hacksaw Butch Reed: A famous heel turn on JYD is the reason Reed easily made this list.

3. Michael Hayes: The Blinding of Terry Gordy along with just pure cockiness has Jim Ross believing he might be the front runner.

4. Ted Dibiase: The return of Dibiase and the Rat Pack has turned the USWA on its ear of late and the people have really let Dibiase have it of late.

Jim Ross hypes up the fact that all of these guys are so awful that you couldn’t go wrong choosing any of them as the Most Hated Wrestler of 1984. Ross goes on to say that it would only be right for him to open the envelop this time as Ladd is a nominee; hahaha.

And the winner is Michael Hayes…..

Michael Hayes comes out and accepts his trophy like he just won a million dollars. He says he puts a lot of time into being bad and all his hard work has bad off. He goes on to remind Jim Ross that all the hot women love a bad boy!

Jim Ross now gets us ready for USWA Feud of the Year by announcing the nominees:

1. Hacksaw Butch Reed vs Ernie Ladd: What a feud this was between teacher and student. Reed had enough of Ladd and his army and didn’t stop until he forced Ernie Ladd in retirement.

2. Hacksaw Butch Reed vs JYD: Back and forth and included Steel Cage Matches and Street Fights. Both beat each other for the USWA North American Title.

3. Tommy Rich vs Jerry Lawler: A Bi-promotional feud where Lawler and Rich chased each other all over not only the USWA but the CWA. These former tag team partners really went at it for the better part of the summer.

4. The Fabulous Freebirds vs The Miracle Violence Committee (Terry Gordy, Dr. Death and Manny Fernandez) Former Freebird Gordy vs The New Freebirds. Blinding creams, title changes, parking lot attacks; this one had it all.

And the winner is…….. The Fabulous Freebirds vs The Miracle Violence Committee.

USWA plays this one smart by not calling out the teams to accept the awards as they know what would have happened.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

Jim Ross now turns to last two awards! The USWA 6 Man Tag Team of the Year and the most prestigious award, The USWA Wrestler of the Year!

Jim Ross hypes up the 6 man division and explains that this exciting format has really taken off this year with the introduction of the USWA World 6 Man Title. He goes on to say that this division has been dominated by three teams which have all been nominated.

1. The VonErichs: The first ever 6 Man World Champs in the USWA.

2. The Fabulous Ones: What a year for the Freebirds. They were Tag Team Champions with Terry Gordy as a partner and then became 6 Man Champion after Jimmy Garvin took Bam Bam’s spot.

3. The Miracle Violence Committee: Terry Gordy, Steve “Dr. Death” Williams and Manny Fernandez have been on a roll ever since Williams came to the aid of Gordy when the Freebirds turned on him way back in early October.

Ernie Ladd is convinced that the VonErichs will win the award because of who their father is even though they are the least deserving team on the list. He goes on to say that in a fair world, The Freebirds would be the obvious choice. Jim Ross tells him to just open the envelop.

And the winner is……… The Miracle Violence Committee.

Gordy, Williams and Fernandez come out and except the award but make sure everyone understands that they have unfinished business. They all assure us that 1985 will mark the end of the Freebirds in professional wrestling.

Jim Ross now really hypes up the last award, The USWA Wrestler of the Year! He gets right to the nominations.

1. Dusty Rhodes: Our current USWA champion who came to the aid of America when the Iron Sheik attacked Jerry “The King” Lawler in the locker room and stole his title! Has taken on such stars as Hacksaw Reed, Ted Dibiase and Harley Race and has managed to hold on to his World Title no matter what the odds were.

2. Hacksaw Butch Reed: Two time North American Title holder who basically ran Ernie Ladd out of wrestling. While his heel turn on JYD bothered most USWA fans, there is no denying his talent!

3. Tommy Rich: Two time World Tag Team Champion with both Dusty Rhodes and Jerry Lawler. His was also the USWA World Champion. After Jerry Lawler turned on the fans, Tommy Rich defeated Lawler all over the USWA and the CWA. Rich also helped rid the USWA of such heels as Buzz Sawyer, Austin Idol and Kevin Sullivan. He now has set his focus on the Rat Pack and Ted Dibiase.

Ernie Ladd knows the drill but is really upset that he was not nominated for this award. He is convinced that he could beat each of them and goes on to say that he gets no respect anymore. Jim Ross tells him to just open the envelop.

The USWA Wrestler of the Year is …….. Tommy “Wildfire” Rich

Rich comes out and is in shock. He thanks everyone and kindly accepts the award as he pumps up his fans with a little Southern Wrastlin Charm.

Ross wonders what that all means and asks fans to join in and see the 4 best USWA matches of the year and that they will get a vote on which one will be titles: 1984 Match of the Year.

Jim Ross: So long from Shreveport, Louisiana.

USWA WRESTLING:

12/29/1984: WTBS

“Hello again everybody. Welcome to USWA WRESTLING from Shreveport, Louisiana and Irish McNeil’s Boys Club. I am Jim Ross and my partner today is the Big Cat, Ernie Ladd. Today we will be showing our 4 matches that have been nominated for match of the year. When the show is over, you will be given the opportunity to vote for Match of the Year by sending a postcard right to the studio here in Shreveport. Let’s get right to our first match.

USWA NORTH AMERICAN TITLE MATCH

HACKSAW BUTCH REED VS THE BLACK PANTHER

(FOOTBALL HELMET MATCH)

The Black Panther makes his way to the ring in a completely black mask and cape and antagonizes the fans every step of the way.

The crowd is going wild as Hacksaw makes his way to the ring but he seems to pay them no mind as he is all business. Jim Ross reminds us that in this match there is a football helmet attached to a 10 foot pole atop one of the ring post and whichever wrestler gets that helmet can use it anyway he sees fit.

Just before the match begins, the Black Panther holds up his hands as if to say wait a minute and ref Pee Wee Anderson keeps Hacksaw Reed back. To the amazement of the crowd, the Black Panther removes his mask and as everyone expected, it is none other than Ernie Ladd.

Gordon Solie seems confused by this action as he says the USWA Board of Directors will have no choice but to suspend Ernie Ladd for one year as he was supposed to be serving a 30 day suspension from USWA.

Jim Ross says that might not be true as the suspension of Ernie Ladd ended yesterday and there is no way to prove that Ernie Ladd was the Black Panther all along. It seems like Hacksaw Reed has also figured that out and he is enraged. He rushes in on the attack but Ladd escapes through the ring ropes and begins to run around the ring. Reed chases but maybe a bit too recklessly as Ladd catches him with a Big Boot as he came around the corner.

Ladd controls the match for a while now but eventually Hacksaw regains the momentum and he begins to really lay it on Ladd. At one point, Reed put on a display off awesome power as he followed up a short armed close line with a double underhook suplex. Reed now went for the helmet but somehow Ladd caught him as he was climbing the pole. Ladd tosses Reed off the top of the pole all the way to the floor which must have been about 15 feet.

Ladd now sees his chance at climbing the pole but he seems to have nothing left in the tank and comes up short with 3 straight tries. Reed has recovered by now and is firing on all cylinders. Reed connects with right hand after right hand and sends Ladd through the ropes out onto the floor. Effortlessly, Reed climbs the pole and gets the football helmet and he places it on his head as Ladd barely makes it back into the ring before the count of 10. Ladd staggers to his feet as Reed leaps off the top rope and hits a FOOTBALL TACKLE (spear) leading with the helmet right into the head of Ladd.

Ladd is basically out and Reed gets the pin but he doesn’t stop there. He takes off the helmet and begins to swing it like a weapon and he is connecting with every part of Ladd’s body. Ladd is busted wide open and the beating is so violent that even the crowd begins to feel bad for the hated Ladd. There seems to be no stopping Reed as his anger with Ladd has been building up for the better part of a year now.

Finally JYD comes out and comes down his buddy. It appears that Reed has calmed down as his shoulders slump and he turns away with his head down as he exhales. JYD has his hands on his hips as if to say whew!

WHAM!

Reed nails JYD with the football helmet and the crowd is stunned.

WHAM! WHAM! Two more massive blows to JYD and he is down right next to Ladd.

Reed throws the football helmet down and leaves the ring and heads back to the locker room with his title belt as the crowd is in shock.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

Jim Ross: Wow, that first match will be a tough one to beat but let’s give it a try.

USWA WORLD TITLE MATCH

JERRY “THE KING” LAWLER VS KERRY VON ERICH

(STEEL CAGE with SPECIAL GUEST REFEREE MICHAEL HAYES)

Now this feud is red hot and the crowd here in Dallas is furious at Jerry Lawler for his dirty tactics over the past month. This plays right into his arrogant persona as he just struts out wearing his crown and laughing at the fans and calling them all kinds of names.

VonErich is the hometown hero and the crowd would like nothing better than for him to capture the title to honor his brother David.

Michael Hayes was the first to enter the cage and he is in the ring in jeans and a referee shirt while Terry “Bam Bam” Gordy is outside the ring making sure that none of Lawler’s henchmen can get involved in this match in any shape or form.

As ref Michael Hayes holds up the belt for the fans to see, Lawler attacks before the bell and this gives him the early advantage. Lawler is brutal and really goes after Von Erich. He uses his skill and the cage to really give it to Kerry. He slams fist after fist into the head of Kerry and also rams it into the steel cage until Kerry is busted wide open. Lawler has many near falls but to be honest with you, Michael Hayes seemed to be out of position and made some really slow counts. Lawler even connected with his famous middle rope fist drop but again Hayes was so slow that the match continued. Hayes and Lawler had words and actually shoved each other a few times. Lawler than caught Kerry in a Sleeper but Hayes forced him to break it saying it was a choke hold even though this Steel Cage Match was a no disqualification Match.

The crowd begins to get nervous and really tried to get behind the “modern day warrior” and it worked. He blocks another right hand by Lawler and gives it right back to the champ. The two exchange blows in the center of the ring until Von Erich nails a Tornado Punch and Lawler went down. This was almost the end. Not because Lawler was seriously hurt but because the count by Hayes was lightening quick. Hayes really starts to use his referee power against Lawler now and actually seemed to be helping Kerry. Von Erich clamps in the Iron Claw right in the center of the ring but Lawler refuses to submit. With Lawler basically out on his feet, Kerry Von Erich climbed to the top of the cage and leaped off with a flying cross body block. Somehow Hayes was too close to Lawler and he took as much of the blow as The King. Hayes and Lawler were both down but that was not a problem as Kerry could win by simply walking through the cage and Terry Gordy as in charge of opening the door.

All of a sudden, the Memphis Bounty Hunter, the man in the red and blue mask who has been helping Lawler of late comes charging to the ring and he and Gordy begin to go at it. The fans are going wild and hoping Gordy can stop this man from saving Lawler and his title.

Gordy is able to knock the masked man down and unlocks the cage door as Kerry is about to walk out and become World Champion.

WHAM!

Bam Bam slams the door right off the head of Kerry Von Erich and down goes Von Erich. Gordy relocks the door as the masked man and Gordy begin to hug as the masked man pulls off the mask and it is none other than BUDDY JACK ROBERTS!

Inside the ring, Hayes and Lawler are beating Kerry from pillar to post. Kevin Von Erich and Michael Von Erich rush out to try and help their brother but there is nothing they can do as they have to battle the Freebirds on the outside.

After a few minutes of knocking Von Erich around, Lawler rams Kerry’s head off the cage one more time and then covers him for what might have been the fastest count in wrestling history.

Lawler and the 3 Freebirds embrace in the center of the ring as the Von Erichs try to help their brother who is a bloody mess.

Solie finishes the show by saying that is one of the most disgusting actions he has ever seen in this sport. He wonders what type of human being would do this at the David Von Erich Memorial show and then he catches himself and realizes that the Freebirds and Jerry Lawler are just the type of people to do this. He ends the show by saying this is a sad day in the sport of “KINGS”. So long from Dallas, Texas.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

Jim Ross: Okay folks, let’s get you right back to another Match of the Year nomination.

ELIMINATION MATCH

THE HOUSE OF HUMPERDINK VS TEAM DUSTY RHODES

(FIRST MAN PINNED MUST LEAVE THE USWA)

Now this match is Good vs Evil and when The House of Humperdink comes to the ring, it creeps the fans out right from the beginning. Kevin Sullivan has a huge snake wrapped around his neck. The Botswana Man Eater has his stomach and face painted in African symbols and is beating on his huge belly. The Purple Haze comes out in a purple rob and appears to be chanting in a trance like rhythm and Abdullah the Butcher is Abdullah. The only one who seems somewhat normal is Hercules Hernandez who is a monster of a man and comes out with a huge steel chain wrapped around his neck.

Team Dusty includes himself, Buzz and Brett Sawyer, Mike Graham and Blackjack Mulligan. The good guys come out to the roar of the crowd and Dusty starts pointing at Sullivan right away. Sullivan just gives a gigantic laugh and the commands his Minions to attack before the bell. Chaos ensues as Sullivan just waits on the apron.

The reason for that is that the first man eliminated from the match has to leave the USWA and all other wrestlers who are pinned or submit must leave the ring and go to the locker room. Once order is restored, it appears that Hercules Hernandez will start against Dusty Rhodes.

Team Dusty works well together and everyone gets a shot while the House of Humperdink has decided to make Hernandez a sacrificial lamb. Every time he goes to make a tag, Sullivan orders the minions to jump off the apron and not enter the ring. Finally, Hernandez is unable to hold out any longer and is pinned by the American Dream after a piledriver. Hercules Hernandez is forced to leave the ring area but he is also out of the USWA.

The match drags on for a while until Abdullah the Butcher just brutalizes team Dusty and is able to knock out Brett Sawyer and Mike Graham.

Buzz Sawyer was able to catch Purple Haze in a power slam to eliminate him and it is down to three on three. The next elimination comes when The Botswana Man Eater comes off the middle rope and crushes Buzz with his 400+ pounds. Gordon Solie notes that Kevin Sullivan has yet to enter the ring.

Abdullah just brutalizes the forehead of Mulligan with the fork and after he is a bloody mess, Abdullah basically crushes Mulligan be squashing him in the corner and gains the pin. It is now3 members of the House vs Dusty and still note that Sullivan has yet to enter the ring.

Dusty is being double teamed by the Man Eater and Abdullah and is in a bad way. Somehow, Dusty managed to come to life a hit a Stardust Piledriver on the Man-eater to eliminate him. Abdullah now man handles Dusty for a good five minutes but rushed in too quickly and Dusty moved away and the Butcher rammed his head into the ring post. Dusty caught him in a roll up for the pin.

It is now a brutally beaten Dusty vs a fresh Kevin Sullivan. The devil basically tossed Rhodes all over the ring and floor area for a few minutes. He then flipped Rhodes into the corner and began the beating of the Tree of Woe. Sullivan then takes a Golden Spike and basically carves Dust’s forehead like he was a butcher. Rhodes is a bloody mess and Sullivan is really trying to injure Rhodes. Sullivan goes into a Devil Stomp and just stomps every inch of Rhodes and then drops a knee right to his throat. He pulls him up by the throat and whips him into the ropes and catches him in a power slam.

As he covers him the fans are shocked that their Dream is about to go down to the devil when all of a sudden Hercules Hernandez hits the ring with the steel chain and starts to beat Sullivan across the back. He then scoops him up into the Backbreaker Rack and is trying to snap Sullivan in too. Humperdink is beside himself.

Sullivan taps out and the fans go wild. The House of Humperdink actually has been beaten by one of their own men. The fans can’t believe it and give Hernandez and huge ovation.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

Jim Ross: And the finally nomination for Match of the Year:

USWA WORLD TITLE MATCH

3 CORNER MATCH

“THE AMERICAN DREAM” DUSTY RHODES

VS

HARLEY RACE

VS

TED DIBIASE

Ernie Ladd is convinced that Ted Dibiase is the favorite in this match as he is the only one with experience in this type of match where everyone is in the ring at once. Ross doesn’t disagree but says you can never count out the American Dream or Harley Race for that matter.

As the match begins, Race thinks that the obvious plan is for he and Dibiase to work together but Dibiase learned from his early 3 Corner Match to attack anyone who is his way as the only way to gain the victory would be to put both his opponents down. Dibiase is like a man possessed early and it hitting everything in his path. Dusty tries to focus his attention on Race for the most part. In fact, Race is taking it pretty good from both opponents.

Race seemed truly out of place here as every time he thought he had something going, the other guy would attack from behind. He became so frustrated at one point that he threw his hands up in the air and walked out of the ring to gather himself.

When he returned, he was quickly caught with a Bionic Elbow from Rhodes and Race stumbled back into the corner. Dibiase seized the moment and jumped on the back of Rhodes and put him into a sleeper. Desperate to break the hold, Rhodes backed into the corner.

SMASH!

Rhodes and Dibiase hit right into Race. Somehow Dibiase hangs onto the sleeper for 3 more times as Rhodes just keeps backing into Race in the corner. Finally, Dibiase loses his grip and falls to the ground. Race and Rhodes are also both in trouble. Somehow Harley is up first and connects with a Diving Headbutt to Rhodes. He then picks Dusty up by the hair….

High High Vertical Suplex……

Race covers Rhodes.

1…

2…

Diving save by Dibiase with an elbow to Race.

Dibiase quickly goes for the Figure 4 on Rhodes and he has it locked in. Rhodes is writhing in pain but won’t give up. Race seems to kow that Dibiase is going to have to break Rhodes legs before he will submit so he takes time to recoup.

The Figure 4 is finally broken as Rohes reaches the ropes. Race turns to Dibiase as he knows Dusty will be out of this match for a minute or two. Double eye gouge on Dibiase allows Race to do what he wants. Race now connects with a big suplex on Dibiase. He scampers up to the top rope and hits a Diving Headbut on Dibiase.

Jim Ross is sure it is now over.

1…

2…

Wham… Dusty makes the save with a Diving Bionic Elbow on Race.

Quickly, Rhodes puts Races head between his legs and lifts him up…. Piledriver

WHAM!

Rhodes piledrives Race and the follows it up with a piledriver on Dibiase. He wanted to make sure ther would be no more saves. He places one hand on Dibiase and the other hand on Race.

1…

2…

3!

Dusty holds on to his World Title.

USWA WRESTLING:

1/1/1985: WTBS

10:05-11:05

Lafayette, Louisiana

“Hello again everybody. Welcome to USWA WRESTLING from Lafayette, Louisiana and The Cajundome. I am Jim Ross and my partner today is the Big Cat, Ernie Ladd. Welcome to our first show in 1985 and what a show it is going to be. Let’s kick off the action the way it should be done, with the USWA World Champion, The American Dream, Dusty Rhodes.

MATCH:

DUSTY RHODES VS ASSASSIN #1

(NON-TITLE)

A nice opening match that saw Rhodes really have to work against the Assassin. In the end, Dusty got tired of the dirty tactics by the Assassin and started throwing some haymakers of his own. He followed that up with a Bionic Elbow for the victory.

What made this interesting was that right when the match started, the leader of the Rat Pack, Ted Dibiase, joined Jim Ross and Ernie Ladd at the interview desk. Every time Dusty made a move, Dibiase explained how easy it would be for him to counter it and every time the Assassin had the advantage we heard Dibiase say that if the Assassin could do this to Rhodes, imagine what will happen when Dibiase meets him this week in Reunion Arena in Dallas.

Rhodes was obviously distracted during his match and shouted across the arena at Dibiase. He even held down the middle rope suggesting that Dibiase step in the ring right now. As soon as the match was over, Dusty hustled over to the interview desk but Dibiase had sauntered off by then. Rhodes really hyped up the match in Reunion Arena.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

When we come out of break, Jim Ross shows us a video clip from last week’s show and explains that many may have missed it due to the holidays.

MATCH: TV TITLE MATCH

MANIAC MATT BORNE

VS

BILLY JACK HAYNES

A nice match here with a few momentum turns. Jim Ross continues to wonder where the rest of the Rat Pack are as it is rare to see one without the rest close behind. In the end, Maniac Matt Borne caught Billy Jack with a DDT and went for a pin attempt but the ref caught him with his feet on the ropes. Borne went to argue with ref Pee Wee Anderson but this allowed Haynes time to recover. Billy played a little cat and mouse here and blocked a right hand from Borne. He then caught Borne with a haymaker of his own and then followed it up with an Oregonian Power Slam for the victory.

As the tape ended, Ross hypes up the fact that we have a new USWA World TV Champion and he calls out Billy Jack.

Haynes accepts his congratulations but is surprised to find out that Matt Borne has decided to leave the USWA after their match due to the fact that he felt the lack of support from the rest of the Rat Pack. Borne said that he was always there for Dibiase and Slater but where were they when a crooked referee cost him his title.

Billy Jack doesn’t know what to make of this as he says that he always knew Borne was a coward but he also doesn’t know if this is just the latest scheme of Dibiase and his Rat Pack!

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

As we come out of break, Gary Hart is with Jim Ross and Ernie Ladd.

Gary Hart: Christmas time has lost its meaning in America. We used to focus on celebrating the birth day of Baby Jesus. Now we focus of the gifts we get. The ugly sweater from Aunt Jolen. The nasty fruit cake from Uncle Clem. Even the hideous tie you received from your boss. Well, I am as American as the next and really Love to receive. This Christmas, I received the greatest gift a wrestling manager could ever want. A monster! I went out and bought myself a true monster. I did not wait to see the awful gifts others would give me. I bought my own gift and as I said, I bought a true monster! To all the USWA fans around the world, turn your attention to the ring and feast your eyes on a future world champion.

From behind the curtain comes a bearded, muscular, barefooted, scowling Superfly Jimmy Snuka who heads right to the ring. Jim Ross and Ernie Ladd hype this new USWA wrestler to the roof!

nTdsRte.jpg?1

MATCH:

JIMMY SNUKA with Gary Hart

Vs

MIKE JACKSON

A complete destruction here of Mike Jackson. Superfly kicks, chops and headbutts his way to an easy victory. With Mike Jackson basically unconscious, Superfly climbs to the top rope and dives 2/3 of the way across the ring and lands on Jackson.

K8iZNAl.jpg?1

Both Ross and Ladd can’t believe the height Snuka reached on this leap.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

THE FABULOUS ONES

VS

THE NIGHTMARES (Ted Allen & Ron Starr behind masks)

Again, the Fab Ones get the crowd going with their energetic entrance but the Nightmares won’t them complete their lap around the ring where they were high fiving all their fans. This sneak attack by the Nightmares gave them an early advantage but once the Fab Ones regained their control, it was all over. A double backdrop followed up by a double drop kick on Nightmare #1 was all that was needed for the pin.

This quick match gave Jim Ross reasons to hype up the fact that they have been named the new #1 contenders for the USWA World Tag Team Titles. Almost on que, the Perfect Alliance, (Bobby Eaton and Arn Anderson) lead by Baby Doll, rushed to the ring. The Fab Ones saw them coming and got ready for a fight. Seeing their sneak attack would not work, the Perfect Alliance jumped down from the apron as the Fab Ones dared them to enter the ring.

Cooler heads prevailed but you can see there is unfinished business between these two teams. Jim Ross informs that will actually meet this week in Reunion Arena.

Jim Ross: So long from Lafayette, Louisiana. See you next week at the Riverside Centroplex in Baton Rouge.

1/2/1985: WTBS

9:05-10:05

Dallas, Texas

“Hello again everybody. Welcome to USWA WRESTLING from wrestling’s most famous arena, The Sportatorium right here in downtown Dallas, Texas. I am Jim Ross and my partner today is the Big Cat, Ernie Ladd. Before we get to our first match, I would like to call out Mike Von Erich. As many of you know, Mike was named the USWA Rookie of the Year for 1984 last week but before he could accept the trophy, he was attacked by Dan Spivey who broke the trophy over Mike’s head.

As Mike comes out, Jim Ross apologizes for the unprovoked attack and asks Mike what is going through his head right now about Dan Spivey.

Mike Von Erich: No need for you to apologize Mr. Ross. You did nothing wrong. I guess it was just a bit of jealousy that caused Spivey to attack me last week.

All of a sudden Spivey rushes out to the interview desk where Jim Ross explains to him that this is not his time and that he has no right to be out here.

Spivey plays Ross no mind.

Dan Spivey: Jealousy? Are you out of your mind VonErich? I am 6’8 and over 300 pounds of the most perfect wrestler this sport has ever seen. All you do and all your brothers do is ride the coat tails of your daddy! If you had any guts, this would be settled in the ring but I know you are a coward.

Mike VonErich: I have NEVER backed down from a challenge and I am not going to start now. If you want a match, you got one. How’s this Tuesday night right here in Reunion Arena sound!

Dan Spivey simple smiles and shakes his head yes as he walks off set.

Jim Ross: The nerve of some people. I am sorry for that Mike but we have to get to the ring and folks I think you are really going to love what we have for you next. Plowboy Frazier is back and says he has his little cousin with him.

A little bit of fiddle music starts to play as Plowboy (Uncle Elmer) heads to the ring.

cuftODP.jpg?1

All of a sudden his cousin makes his entrance.

Jim Ross: OH MY GOD! Have you ever seen anything that big!

MATCH:

BIG COUNTRY (UNCLE ELMER & SILO SAM)

VS

THE ASSASSINS (JODY HAMILTON & MARK LEWIN WEARING MASKS)

The ring announcer tells the fans Big Country weighs in at a mere 948 pounds. Jim Ross adds that they outweigh their opponents by almost 550 pounds but what really gets Ross is that Silo Sam is a GIANT. The ring announcer says he is 7’7 but Ross is unsure if he is not closer to 8 feet tall.

As for the match, it is a total squash. While both members of Big Country are awkward, they just can’t be taken off their feet. At one time, Assassin #1 jumped off the middle rope and Silo Sam caught him and simply dropped him. From that height, it was like a monster slam. Silo Sam tagged in Frazier for the Big Squash and this one was over in less than 3 minutes.

bRGuFtp.jpg

When the bell sounded, Big Country, went right back to the square dancing. The fans really seemed to enjoy this one.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

When we come out of break, we see the new North American Heavyweight Champion, Hacksaw Butch Reed standing at the interview desk with his manager, Skandar Akbar. Jim Ross does congratulate Reed on his recent victory and wonders what his plans are in defending the belt.

Hacksaw Reed: I have been tellin all you suckers out there that I am the man. I can’t be beat. I just beat Junk Yard Dog so bad, you don’t even see him around here no more. He is probably back in North Carolina riding a pony or something. He wants no part of me. I can guarantee you that brother.

Skandar Akbar: My man is right. Nobody in the USWA can do what he can do. I make sure he gets the best training. I make sure he gets the best food. I make sure he gets everything he needs. Now that he is the USWA North American Champion, he makes sure I get what I need…. MONEY! It doesn’t matter if it’s Kerry VonErich. It doesn’t matter if it’s Iceman King Parsons! It doesn’t matter if JYD runs home and finds his Stagger Lee mask. Nobody and I mean nobody is going to take the belt off of Hacksaw Butch Reed.

Jim Ross announces that there is going to be a 20 Man Battle Royal in Reunion Arena to determine the new #1 Contender for the belt. Ross rattles off a few of the wrestlers entered in the tournament but Reed and Akbar seem extremely confident that Reed will destroy whoever wins.

Jim Ross takes us back to the ring for our next bout and reminds the fans that it is 1985 but we are seeing a lot of old faces returning to USWA Wrestling.

MATCH:

“HOTSTUFF EDDIE GILBERT

VS

ROTTEN RON STARR

An interesting match where the fans are not sure who to root for. The last time Gilbert was around, he and Sheri Martel caused havoc and took it to Baby Doll and Curt Henig. Well, now Henig is off in the AWA and Baby Doll is one of the biggest heels around. Also, Rotten Ron Starr is doing nothing to endear himself to the crowd. In the end Gilbert wins with a Hotshot and makes the pin without grabbing the tights or placing his feet on the ropes. Ross sees these as positives and has high hopes for Gilbert.

After the match is over, Gilbert goes over to the interview desk where he tries to play the role of the choir boy. We will just have to wait and see.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

When we come out of break, we see the Miracle Violence Committee at the interview desk with their World 6 Man Titles around their waist. Jim Ross asks Terry Gordy the question everybody wanted to know: “When did you get your eyesight back and was that all a set up to defeat the Freebirds?

Terry Gordy: When you spent as much time on Bad Street as I did, you learn how to be real BAD. That lowlife coward Michael Hayes really did try to blind me and was trying to put me out of the sport I love. So yes! It was all a set up. The doctors at the University of Tennessee Medical Center did a tremendous job the night I went in there. With their help, I was able to make a full recovery in just a few weeks but I didn’t want anybody to know. I know Hayes was just too cocky and would mess up sooner or later and I was just waiting for my revenge. When he made that Elimination Match for our titles, I knew we had him. When I power slammed Hayes to win that match, it was the best feeling I ever had. Now, where are the Freebirds? I heard they ran from USWA so fast. I heard they ran all the way to Japan. If they know what’s best for them, they will never return.

Jim Ross: Well guys, I am unsure where the Freebirds are but I have some information that the men in our next match are looking for you and your titles?

Steve “Dr. Death” Williams: It doesn’t matter who they are. If they qualify for a title shot. They will be granted one. But they better be ready for the fight of their life! We are just a group of rebels who were born ready to fight!

Jim Ross thanks them for their time and gets us ready for some tag team action in the ring.

MATCH:

TOR KAMATA & MR. POGO with Tojo Yamamoto

VS

THE FORT BRAGG BROTHERHOOD (PVT. Kernodle & Cpl. Kirchner)

Jim Ross warns us about this team from Japan. He informs us that Tojo Yamamoto is one of the most devious wrestlers ever to step foot on American soil and that we should be prepared for the worst.

As the match is getting set to begin, it is obvious that the Fort Bragg Brotherhood do not hear the warning from Ross. They are happily waving the American flag around when they are attacked by Kamata and Pogo. Kamata is like some sort of caged animal. As he is chopping and stomping away at Kirchner, his face is contorting in many different shapes. You hear almost like some sort of wailing cry coming from him. They fans are in utter shock at his monster.

glt5Z3B.jpg?2

Mr. Pogo is more measured. He seems to enjoy hurting people and each new blow to Kernodle from him is well planned out to inflict the most pain possible.

The ref never called for the bell to start the match but after a few minutes, Pee Wee Anderson is frantically calling for help from the back. The Brotherhood is just taking the beating of a life time when all of a sudden Tojo puts up his hands and Kamata and Pogo stop. They simply exit the ring and walk behind Yamamoto to the interview desk and an obviously nervous Jim Ross.

Tojo Yamamoto: Mis-tah Jim Ross. Mis-tah Ernee Ladd. You have just witnessed what my men are capable of doing. We have come here to prove that your way of life does not produce winners. You Americans are lazy. You Americans are soft. Those two men lying in the ring were supposed to be two our your finest. They are the ones your government paid to protect you. Now in just minutes, they are lucky to be alive. Soon, I will join them in the ring and it will be worse for your men. We will rule USWA Wrestling. We will soon be champions and take your titles back to the Land of the Rising Sun. They will give us a parade; not because we are champions but because we hurt America. Forty years ago, you fought like cowards. Dropped bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and then run and hide. Revenge will be sweet. Death will be slow and painful. My men need blood to survive. They are going to grow stronger and stronger hear off the blood of stupid Americans. We will soon drink the blood of the Miracle Violence Committee and take their dignity and their titles.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

Ernie Ladd and Jim Ross are still trying to get over the last segment and the Japanese Invasion as we get set for our main event.

MATCH:

KERRY VON ERICH

VS

THE IRON SHEIK with Skandar Akbar

The fans are a bit nervous. They have just seen American pride taken down a notch here in Dallas with the defeat of the Fort Bragg Brotherhood and they would be really depressed if their “Modern Day Warrior,” Kerry Von Erich went down to the Iron Sheik.

Akbar and the Sheik do nothing to calm them down with their Anti-American rhetoric as they enter the ring. Kerry comes out to a huge ovation and you could see Kerry means business. In fact, this is one of the most lopsided matches of the Iron Sheik’s career. He could get nothing gong. In the end, Kerry connected with Tornado Punches on both the Sheik and Akbar before he clamped on the Iron Claw for the submission victory on the Iron Sheik.

We here a moan form the crowd as the camera catches a huge man in an Arabian headdress coming towards the ring.

WHAM

From out of nowhere comes Kevin VonErich with a running elbow to the back of the head of this monster. The monster simply turns and laughs as he and Kevin square off. As these two throw wild punches at each other the headdress comes flying off.

Jim Ross: Oh my God! It’s Hercules Hernandez! What is he doing back in the USWA?

Ernie Ladd: Taking care of the VonErichs and that is all that matters.

Jim Ross announces that we have just seconds to go in tonight’s show as Ernie Lad is once again disgusted by the actions of the VonErichs. He says that Kevin had no right to be at ringside tonight and that he has no right to take off the sacred headdress of Hercules Hernandez.

Jim Ross: Oh come on Ladd! Hernandez is no more Arabian then I am. That attire is not sacred to him.

Ernie Ladd: To each there own.

Jim Ross: Sorry folks we are out of time. So long from Dallas, Texas. Don’t forget to join us this Tuesday in Reunion Arena.

As the screen fades to black we see promotions for the big show in Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas.

1/8/1985: WTBS

9:05-10:05

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

“Hello again everybody. Welcome to USWA WRESTLING from Baton Rouge, Louisiana and The Riverside Centroplex. I am Jim Ross and my partner today is the Big Cat, Ernie Ladd. What a card we had last week at Reunion Arena in Dallas. Let’s take a look at a video from that big event.

VIDEO MATCH: USWA WORLD TITLE MATCH

DUSTY RHODES VS TED DIBIASE

We pick up the end of the match here as we see ref Pee Wee Anderson get knocked down by Dusty Rhodes who was whipped into the ref by Dibiase. Dusty also goes down for a minute and this gives Dibiase a chance to grab a chair. As Dibiase comes after Rhodes, he violently swings the chair but Rhodes gets out of the way in the nick of time. With Dibiase off balance, Rhodes was able to catch him with a Bionic Elbow on the top of the head. Dibiase goes down hard and Rhodes grabs the chair. He starts waving it in the air as the fans are imploring him to crack Dibiase.

This is right when Pee Wee Anderson recovers enough to stagger to his feet. He sees Dibiase down and Dusty waving the chair. He puts two and two together and wrongfully calls for the bell. He has disqualified the Dream for using a chair!

As the video ends, an irate Dibiase has joined Ross and Ladd at the interview desk.

Ted Dibiase: I can’t believe how much of a coward that fat slob Dusty Rhodes is. He calls himself the American Dream yet he gets himself disqualified to save his title. He calls himself a role model. Well what kind of role model is he. He should do what is right and just hand over the belt to the true champion. ME! TED DIBIASE!

Ernie Ladd: That sounds very reasonable.

Jim Ross: That is utterly ridiculous. Mr. Dibiase, you were the one who shoved Dusty into the ref. You are the one who brought the chair into the ring. You are the one who tried in injure the American Dream. You are also the one who was laid out on the canvass by a LEGAL ELBOW! The only good news is that this interview is over as we have our first match set to go.

Ted Dibiase: Not quite over. You forget to tell these morons in TV land that in two weeks at the HemisFair Arena in San Antonio, I will be facing the American Nightmare, Dusty Rhodes and this time the title will be mine.

_____________________________________________________________________________

MATCH:

KEVIN VONERICH & ICEMAN PARSONS

VS

THE WILD HOGS (KING HARLEY HOGG & JR HOGG)

A nice opening showcase that gets the fans up and out of their seats. They love the Iceman and his “We Are Family” and now that he is together with Kevin VonErich, the fans are ecstatic. As far as the match goes, the fan favorites take care of business against these two large biker dudes. Iceman whipped JR Hogg into the ropes and connected with a Butt Bump and then quickly tagged in Kevin who scampered up the ropes and came off with a Top Rope Von Erich Death Leap for the victory.

Both Jim Ross and Ernie Ladd compared Kevin’s top rope leap with the amazing leap they saw last week from that freak of nature, Jimmy Snuka. Even a reluctant Jim Ross was forced to admit that Snuka most likely won that debate.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

MATCH: TV TITLE MATCH

BILLY JACK HAYNES

VS

DAN SPIVEY

As we get ready for this great match, Ernie Ladd explains that Spivey was granted this title shot after his great victory over Mike VonErich in Reunion Arena last week. Jim Ross has a different take on things and says the victory was more tainted than anything else. He goes on to explain that when a pair of brass knuckles was the cause of the victory, he would call it shameful instead of great. Ernie Ladd simple says, “A win is a win.”

As the match is getting set to begin, Mike VonErich comes out to the interview desk. Ladd quickly says that he has no right to be out here and if he wanted to be involved in this match, he should have won the other night. Mike simple responds that he is out here to make sure no funny business costs his buddy, Billy Jack Haynes his TV Title.

The match is truly a battle of some big men. Spivey is 6’8 and over 300 pounds while Billy Jack is just ripped from head to toe. These big boys pull off some huge power moves and take turns with the momentum. Billy Jack has Spivey in trouble after a body slam and he lets the crowd know he is going for his Full Nelson. Spivey notices this and slips out of the ring. Billy Jack heads out after him but ref Bronco Lubich stops him. While Billy Jack and the ref are arguing, the camera catches Spivey reach into his trunks for the brass knucks. He jumps up onto the apron and as Billy Jack comes to meet him…

WHAM!

Mike VonErich pulls Spivey off the apron and on the way down, Spivey’s head connects with the matt and then the cement floor. Bronco Lubich quickly calls for the bell and declares Spivey the winner by DQ.

Billy Jack is confused at why his friend would do this but Mike is complaining to the ref and asks him to come out onto the floor. Lubich obliges VonErich and when he goes to exam Spivey, he sees the Brass Knuckles on his hand and reverses the decision.

Billy Jack thanks Mike for his help as Ross is grateful for the presence of VonErich. Ernie Ladd is once again disgusted by the interference of a VonErich and that is doesn’t matter who his father is, something must be done about their lack of respect for the rules of wrestling.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

As we come out of break, Gary Hart and Jimmy Snuka are at the interview desk.

Jim Ross: I must ask you Mr. Snuka what has caused this sudden change in you. I mean we have all seen the love and support you received from the fans in the WWF. Now, you have partnered with one of the most diabolic men in all of wrestling.

Gary Hart: Watch your mouth Ross. I am a wrestling genius and this man knows I will take him to the top!

Jimmy Snuka: That is the exact reason I have given my services to Mr. Hart. In the WWF, the fans adored me and what did it get me! Nothing. I gave my blood and sweat to the organization and they treated me like some sort of animal. Every time they thought they had something better come along, they pushed me to the back burner. Nick Bockwinkle comes in… forget Snuka. Gino Hernandez comes in… forget Jimmy Snuka. I learned two things from my time up north. Nice guys finish last and you don’t hope to be respected, you demand to be respected! I can guarantee you that in my time in the USWA, I will not be nice! I will be the monster that Roddy Piper claimed me to be and I will be respected.

MATCH:

SGT. SLAUGHTER

VS

THE CUBAN ASSASSIN (Fidel Sierra)

The crowd explodes as Sgt. Slaughter makes his way to the ring. They can’t wait for Slaughter to take care of the Cuban Assassin.

Jimmy Snuka: This exactly what I mean, No Respect. Slaughter has interrupted my time on National TV and the USWA allowed it.

Snuka sprints towards the ring and leaps at Slaughter. Slaughter not expecting the attack, takes the full brunt of the blow. Snuka is going absolutely nuts. He is chopping away at Slaughter and headbutting him into a bloody mess. The Cuban Assassin doesn’t know what to do so he simply walks away.

Slaughter is face down on the matt and is convulsing every few seconds. Snuka jumps into the ring and climbs to the top rope and leaps off.

WHAM!

Snuka flies all the way to the floor and crashes right onto the back of Slaughter. Officials and wrestlers pour out from the back and surround Slaughter to stop another attack from Snuka. Snuka simple raises his arms in the air to signify some sort of greatness. Fans start to toss some drinks and food and him but this only seems to increase his rage. He starts growling and his face is contorting. His eyes are basically popping out of his head. Finally Gary Hart comes to him and puts an arm around him and it seems to calm him down enough to be lead to the back.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

Jim Ross introduces us to first timer Ted Arcidi. Ross informs us that Arcidi is known as the World’s Strongest Man and is closing in on a 700 pound bench press. Ernie Ladd doesn’t believe it for a second and says that no human will ever bench press 700 pounds.

As Arcidi walks out to the ring, Ernie Ladd takes one look at him and changes his tune “If any man does bench 700 pounds, it will be this man. He is HUGE!

MATCH:

TED ARCIDI VS RON STARR

Ted Arcidi is one big powerful man who is built like a fire hydrant. Arcidi is very awkward during the match but the veteran Ron Starr guides him along for about 4 minutes. In the end, Arcidi whipped Starr across the ring and caught him in a powerful Bear Hug. Ron Starr does some good selling here and the rookie gets his first victory in Pro Wrestling.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

TOMMY RICH

VS

DICK SLATER

Wildfire has been feuding with the Rat Pack for a while now and everybody knows that he and Dibiase have some real bad history between them. Before this match begins, the camera catches Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert watching from the shadows.

As for the match, it is a brawl from beginning to end but both Rich and Slater keep an eye on Gilbert. Slater and his hands of stone are doing some damage but Wildfire is not to be out done. With only about a minute left in the show, the action spills out onto the floor right in front of Gilbert who still does not get involved. Rich is able to slam Slater on the concrete floor and get back in the ring before the 10 count. The bell sounds as Jim Ross is getting ready to sign off as the ref raises the hand of Wildfire who claims victory by count-out.

The last image of the show is Gilbert and Wildfire starring at each other. Gilbert gives a little sly grin as the screen fades to black.

Jim Ross: So long from Lafayette, Louisiana. Don’t forget to join us this week at the Sam Houston Coliseum and next week we will be coming to you from Alexandria, Louisiana and the Rapides Parish Coliseum.

If I can be a tad nitpicky here....I thought that maybe Gary Hart should've done most of the talking for Jimmy Snuka rather than Snuka himself. Gary Hart is perfect for the type of heel you want Snuka to be and I think he'd be better suited as a silent savage monster. I'm not saying not to give him any promo time at all but when you have someone the caliber of Gary Hart to do the talking, I believe he should have the majority of the mic time.

But other than that, another solid show as usual. :)

Texarkana, Arkansas

“Hello again everybody. Welcome to USWA WRESTLING from Texarkana, Arkansas and The Four States Arena. I am Jim Ross and my partner today is the Big Cat, Ernie Ladd. What a card we had last week at Reunion Arena in Dallas. Let’s take a look at a video from that big event.

VIDEO MATCH: USWA WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH

The PERFECT ALLIANCE (Bobby Eaton & Arn Anderson with Baby Doll)

VS

THE FABULOUS ONES

The video shows a wild finish where the Fabulous Ones connect with a double back drop on Anderson and think they are about to regain the World Titles as Lane covers Anderson for the pin. The Fab Ones had not noticed the Anderson had tagged in Eaton and Beautiful Bobby had climbed to the top rope and came off for an Alabama Jam on Lane. Keirn had actually already turned away and thought the count was for his team’s victory instead of Eaton on top of Lane. The Perfect Alliance pulled out another victory over the Fab Ones who just can’t seem to beat them.

After the video ended we see a very cocky Perfect Alliance where Baby Doll wonders just how many more times her men are going to have to embarrass the Fab Ones.

Jim Ross “thanks” the Perfect Alliance for their time and gets us to the ring for tonight’s first match.

MATCH:

THE MEMPHIS BRUSIE BROTHERS (Dream Machine and Pork Chop Cash)

VS

THE FT. BRAGG BROTHERHOOD (Pvt. Kernodle & Cpl. Kirchner)

Before the match, Jim Ross and Ernie Ladd gives us some background on the Bruise Brothers and let us know that they were a huge tag team up in the Memphis area and that they twice held the AWA Southern Tag Team Titles. The Bruise Brothers come out dressed as Belushi and Akroyd from the Blues Brothers with the same music blaring from the speakers. The crowd is getting into in but once the match starts they are unsure what to make of Cash and the masked Dream Machine. They are just brutal with elbows, kicks and forearms. In the end, Dream Machine caught Kirchner with a powerslam and gained the pinfall.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

HACKSAW JIM DUGGAN

VS

ROTTEN RON STARR

Prior to the match, Ross informs us that Hacksaw Duggan won the huge Battle Royal last week in Reunion Arena and is now the new #1 contender for the North American title.

The fans really throw their support behind Duggan as he makes his way to the ring waving the 2X4. He stops for a second to salute the flag and this serves to only endear him more to the fans here in the patriotic South where the Red, White and Blue means everything.

The match is a quick 4 minute dismantling of Starr as Duggan just uses brute force to keep the momentum. In the end we see a nasty football tackle for the victory.

Duggan heads over to the interview desk where he is all hyped about getting a shot at Reed and the North American Title but before he gets too far, Skandar Akbar and Hacksaw Reed appear. Hacksaw actually has an Arabian Headdress on much the same way Hercules Hernandez did last week.

Jim Ross: Gentlemen. This is not your time and you have no business being out here.

Skandar Akbar: Shut Up Ross and from now on, address my men with the proper term of Sheik. This is Sheik Hacksaw Butch Reed. Sheik is a title of respect where I come from. It is a title for leaders. Men who are in control and right now Sheik Reed is in control of the USWA North American Title and he should not have to waste his time with this dirty low life to your right.

Hacksaw Duggan: Listen up towel head! We are in America and when you want respect, you earn it. You don’t just run out to the laundry mat and steal some old ladies bedsheet and wrap it around your head and call yourself a Shiek!

Skandar Akbar: You mean a Sheik

Hacksaw Duggan: Listen up Reed. I am getting sick and tired of this mouth piece of yours. I did once respect you. You claimed to be the man here in the USWA and now you are nothing more than a puppet for this Genie in a Bottle. Take that stupid thing off your head now and we can settle this like men. If not, I will remind you of another American tradition.

Sheik Hacksaw Butch Reed: Don’t tell me what to do Duggan. I am the champ. I am the man.

Hacksaw Duggan: I am the man with the Big Stick!

Duggan goes wild swinging his 2x4 as Akbar and Reed scramble to the locker room with Duggan.

Jim Ross: Well I can’t wait to see what happens when these two do get in the ring this Tuesday night in the Sam Houston Coliseum.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

MATCH:

TERRY GORDY

VS

TOR KAMATA with Tojo Yamamoto

Terry Gordy really took offense to the comments by Yamamoto and his men about the United States on last week’s show and demanded this match here tonight. The match is all Bam Bam as you can tell he is furious. He is all over Kamata for the first few minutes but as he came off the ropes, Yamamoto tripped him up. This gave the maniacal Kamata time to recover and then he went to work. Chops, nerve holds and thrust kicks had Gordy in serious trouble. Somehow, Gordy started to shake and convulse and you could just see the adrenaline rising. It is here that Gordy becomes immune to pain and just takes chop after chop from Kamata without giving an inch. One Irish Whip later and the 350 pound Kamata is on the wrong end of a powerslam. Before the ref can make the 3 count, Yamamoto is in the ring and his side kick, Mr. Pogo is not far behind.

The Japanese attackers give it to Gordy pretty good but only for a minute or two before Bam Bam’s tag partners hit the ring. Dr. Death Steve Williams and Manny Fernandez are like a house afire and are going wild Soon the Violence Committee has regained control of the ring with the Japanese monsters headed to the locker room.

Jim Ross hustles up to the ring for a quick interview with the 6 Man Tag Team Champions. Terry Gordy is a little worse for wear but they are all fired up and demand to meet these Monsters of the Midway this Tuesday night in Houston, Texas where they can give them a good old fashion Cowboy Beating!

Jim Ross is sure that both Cowboy Bill Watts and Yamamoto’s men will jump at the chance of having a USWA 6 Man Title Match on the card.

MATCH:

HOTSTUFF EDDIE GILBERT VS

MOONDOG CUJO

Gilbert has been on a role since his return to the area and tonight is no different. A nice 3 minute match where Gilbert controls the big man and ends it with a Hotshot.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

Ernie Ladd and Jim Ross are still trying to get over the last segment and the Japanese Invasion as we get set for our main event.

MATCH:

KERRY VON ERICH & KEVIN VON ERICH

VS

THE SHEIKS (IRON SHEIK & SHEIK HERCULES HERNANDEZ) with Skandar Akbar

A great main event here as the pride of Texas, the VonErichs are here to take on two of Akbar’s men. As one would expect, it was more of a brawl then a wrestling match and in the end, Kerry connected with a Tornado Punch on the Iron Sheik and then tagged in his brother who climbed to the top rope and connected with a VonErich Death Leap but before he could make the pin, we see Akbar signaling to the back and out rushed Hacksaw Reed. Reed enters and the ref calls for the bell.

Kerry and Reed are squared off in the center of the ring and they are exchanging some huge blows. Kevin is after Akbar and all of a sudden the crowd explodes.

It is Hacksaw Duggan and his trusty 2x4. He is swinging it like a Louisville Slugger as the Sheiks all head for the road. The VonErichs and Duggan do a little playing to the crowd and everybody leaves happy.

Jim Ross: Sorry folks we are out of time. So long from Texarkana, Arkansas. Don’t forget to join us this Tuesday in Houston, Texas.

As the screen fades to black we see promotions for the big show in the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston, Texas.

ALexandria, Louisiana

“Hello again everybody. Welcome to USWA WRESTLING from Alexandria, Louisiana and The Rapides Parrish Coliseum. I am Jim Ross and my partner today is the Big Cat, Ernie Ladd. What a card we had last week at the Sam Houston Coliseum. Let’s take a look at a video from that big event.

VIDEO MATCH: USWA NORTH AMERICAN TITLE MATCH

SHEIK HACKSAW BUTCH REED with SKANDAR AKBAR

VS

HACKSAW JIM DUGGAN

The video begins with Duggan and Reed brawling in the middle of the ring and Reed whips Duggan off the ropes and both he and Duggan collide with the ref. The ref goes down as Reed recovers first and grabs Duggan by the head and tosses him over the top rope. Duggan fights his way back into the ring and the two square off in the center of the ring for the second time. By now, ref Pee Wee Anderson is up and Duggan is getting the best of Reed. Duggan goes for a giant football tackle but Reed pulls Anderson in front and the ref takes the blow. Reed scrambles outside the ring and gets a chair. He swings and misses. Somehow Duggan gets the chair.

WHAM!

Duggan clocks Reed with the chair.

WHAM!

Duggan clocks him again!

WHAM!

A third chair smash.

Duggan know has Reed where he wants him as the ref is staggering back to his feet. Duggan catches Reed with a football tackle and Pee Wee Anderson makes the three count!

We have a new USWA North American Champion.

Anderson is still struggling a bit as the three blows have taken their effect on him. Senior official Bronco Lubich comes out as Duggan is celebrating in the ring. Duggan’s recent tag partner, Wildfire Tommy Rich comes out to join in the celebration. Duggan has the belt and is playing to the crowd.

We see Lubich and Anderson talking and all of a sudden. Lubich raises the hand of Duggan and the crowd explodes but only for a second as Lubich takes the title back from Duggan and hands it to Reed.

When the video ends we see Duggan with Jim Ross. Ross explains that Hacksaw Reed was disqualified by Bronco Lubich for throwing Duggan over the top rope in the beginning of that clip and therefore Reed retains his title. Duggan goes on a bit of a rant here that Reed knows he can’t beat him and has to cheat to win. He is also angry as to why Bronco Lubich stepped in here but guarantees that Reed has not seen the last of him.

MATCH:

JIMMY SNUKA with Gary Hart vs SWEET BROWN SUGAR

Jim Ross and Ernie Ladd hype up Snuka here and there is good reason to. He is a supremely athletic monster who has just pounded away on everyone in the USWA so far. This is another complete squash match as Snuka deals with the talented Sweet Brown Sugar in quick fashion. Snuka again amazes the crowd with his Top Rope Death Leap for the victory.

In a quick interview after the match, Gary Hart explains that he cannot guarantee the safety for the old wash women Sgt. Slaughter he couldn’t help but stick his nose in Superfly’s business last week.

Jim Ross reminds Hart that it was Snuka who attacked Slaughter.

This sets Snuka off again and it seems like he is about to attack Ross but Hart pulls Snuka away to the locker room.

MATCH: TV TITLE MATCH

BILLY JACK HAYNES

VS

ASSASSIN #1

The fans enjoy this 5 minute bout as the Assassin at almost 280 pounds proves to be a nice test for Billy Jack’s power. Billy Jack controlled most of the match and finished off the Assassin by submission with his signature full nelson.

Billy Jack does a quick interview where he says that he is really proud to be representing the USWA as the TV champ and will accept all challenges.

MATCH

TED DIBIASE

VS

MIKE VON ERICH

A great bout for TV as Dibiase tries to secure his #1 contender status against the young VonErich. The crows is really hopeful as VonErich is really taking the fight to Dibiase. Dibiase tries his stall game here but nothing seems to be working. Dibiase resorts to throwing Mike through the middle ropes and ref Bronco Lubich gets right in his face.

Jim Ross sees it coming and warns us the Dan Spivey is heading to the ring. Spivey grabs VonErich by the head and clocks him with the brass knuckles that he has been carrying around now for a few weeks. Spivey rolls VonErich into the ring and disappears as fast as he appeared.

Dibiase stops arguing with Lubich and adjusts his own black loaded glove and clocks VonErich again. Dibiase adds a suplex into the mix and that is all she wrote.

Dibiase goes over to the interview desk and is as cocky as ever. He tells the fans that if he beat Mike VonErich so easily it is going to be a walk in the park this week when he takes the World Title from Dusty Rhodes. Jim Ross questions how easy the VonErich match was and proclaims he would have lost if not for Dan Spivey. Dibiase plays dumb but does give Spivey a lot of props for his recent success. He goes as far as to say that young Dan Spivey is looking more and more like Rat Pack material.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

MATCH:

SGT. SLAUGHTER VS THE GREAT KABUKI with Gary Hart

This turns out to be Sarges first official bout in the USWA and he makes the most of it. While Kabuki gave him all he could handle, Sarge took control after a Big Bearhug that took its toll on Kabuki. In order to break the hold, Gary Hart got up on the apron but all this led to was a massive Lariat by Sarge to the head of Hart.

Slaughter then locked in the Cobra Clutch on Kabuki and it was all over.

During his post-match interview, all Slaughter wanted to talk about was getting revenge on the Magot Jimmy Snuka who attacked him last week. Slaughter was all fired up and the spit was flying from his mouth.

All of a sudden, a wild scream was heard and out of nowhere Snuka came flying in a landed atop the head of Slaughter. Slaughter went down and banged his head of the interview desk and was busted wide open. Soon the TV screen was censored with a giant X as Snuka went to town. He used anything that was not nailed down to destroy Sarge.

Jim Ross rushed us to break in hopes of getting order restored.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

As we come out of break, both Ross and Ladd are in shock at what Snuka has done here in the USWA in just 3 weeks. They both agree that Slaughter is one of the best in the world but he has not even gotten his hands up to defend himself before Snuka takes him out.

They both then spend a little time hyping up our main event. It is no surprise that they are on different sides here. Ladd likes the Perfect Alliance while Ross says Kevin Von Erich and Iceman Parsons have been on a roll of late.

MATCH: USWA WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE

THE PERFECT ALLIANCE

VS

KEVIN VONERICH & ICEMAN PARSONS

The fans are bouncing in their seats as “We Are Family” leads the challengers to the ring. Baby Doll holds nothing back as she sits on the middle rope to help her team enter the ring. The fans hate the Perfect Alliance but love to keep their eyes glued to the Perfect 10.

The Perfect Alliance go right into the stall as they know this match is going to be short as TV time is about to expire. Arn Anderson rolls in and out of the ring and the fans begin to get restless. Finally, Kevin catches him and goes to work but before he can get anywhere Bobby rushes into to prevent any real damage. Iceman joins the fray and for a minute or two we have all 4 men in the ring.

Iceman takes care of Eaton with a jumping clothesline and follows it up by coming off the ropes for a Butt Bump. Eaton is knocked through the middle ropes where he is quickly consoled by Baby Doll. Kevin seems to be taking care of Anderson and the crowd pops as he clamps in the stomach claw. This is painful but will not bring them the belts. He tags in Iceman who goes for the finish with the Butt Bump but Baby Doll pulls down the middle rope and now Iceman crashes to the floor. Eaton has recovered enough and is waiting with a steel chair.

CRACK!

Eaton nails Iceman with the chair and the ref quickly disqualifies the Perfect Alliance. This doesn’t bother them in the least as they retain their belts.

Jim Ross is once again disgusted by the actions of the heels as Baby Doll raises the hands of her team even though they lost.

Jim Ross: So long from Alexandria, Louisiana. Don’t forget to join us this week at the HemisFair Arena in San Antonio and next week we will be coming to you from Little Rock, Arkansas and the Barton Coliseum.

USWA WRESTLING:

1/17/1985: WTBS

9:05-10:05

AUSTIN, TEXAS

“Hello again everybody. Welcome to USWA WRESTLING from Austin, Texas and The Frank Irwin Center. I am Jim Ross and my partner today is the Big Cat, Ernie Ladd. What a card we had last week at the Sam Houston Coliseum. Let’s take a look at a video from that big event.

VIDEO MATCH: USWA WORLD 6 MAN TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH

The MIRACLE VIOLENCE COMMITTEE (Gordy, Williams & Fernandez)

VS

THE MONSTERS OF THE MIDWAY (Yamamoto, Kamata & Mr. Pogo)

The video begins and it is hard to tell what is happening and who is in control as there seems to be action all over the arena. Anything that is not strapped down is being used as a weapon. Kamata seems to be biting a chunk out of Manny’s head while Gordy is half way up the aisle beating Yamamoto. Mr. Pogo and Dr. Death are nowhere to be seen. We later find out that they took the fight to the parking lot but there wasn’t a camera man with them.

After a minute or two we see ref Pee Wee Anderson call for the bell as he rules this match “No Contest.”

When the match is over, we find out that these two teams will meet again in two weeks in Ft. Worth at the Will Rodgers Arena but that this time it will be in a steel cage to keep the action more controlled.

MATCH:

BIG COUNTRY ( Plowboy Frazier & Silo Sam)

VS

THE RED ASSASSINS (Fidel Sierra & Igor Volkolff)

Again the fans are entertained by Big Country as they come out to a little fiddle music and square dance around the ring. They are two of the happiest looking big men and Ross reminds us that they come in at a combined weight of just under 1000 pounds.

The Red Assassins due their best to change the mood in the arena as they are waving the Cuban and Russian flags and getting in the face of all the fans here in Texas. As for the match, Sierra and Volkolff tried to act big but they palled in comparison to Big Country. Both Plowboy and Silo Sam were very robotic in the ring but they were just so big that a few slams and smushes along the way were enough to take care of their opponents. In the end, Plowboy Frazier “rushed” into the corner and flattened the Cuban Assassin and they tagged in Silo Sam for the biggest leg drop in all of wrestling. Silo Sam simply sat on the Cuban Assassin for the pin. The Russian Assassin never even thought about making the save.

The fiddle music and some more square dancing took us to break.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

TOMMY RICH VS MR. POGO with Tojo Yamamoto

(GILBERT)

Mr. Pogo has already entered the ring with a pretty cool little Nun-Chucks display as Tommy Rich begins to make his way to the ring. Before he gets there Eddie Gilbert comes from behind and seem to confront Rich. After about a minute we see Gilbert shrug his shoulders as Rich heads to the ring.

The match is a pretty even match and Mr. Pogo seemed to have Rich where he wanted him. He locked in the Japanese Cobra (Cobra Clutch) and it seemed like Rich was going out. He somehow backed Pogo into the corner to break the hold. Yamamoto had seen enough and was about to enter the ring.

WHAM!

Eddie Gilbert rushed out and clobbered Yamamoto. Mr. Pogo was distracted for a second and this allowed Rich to come off the ropes for the Lou Thesz Press for the pin.

Gilbert enters the ring again the talk to Rich. Gilbert puts out his hand but Rich is reluctant to shake it. Jim Ross can’t blame him as Gilbert doesn’t have the most reputable reputation. Ernie Ladd says Rich is classless as Gilbert just saved his rump and he better shake that hand.

Rich finally does accept the handshake and the crowd has a mixed reaction.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

MATCH: USWA WORLD TITLE MATCH

DUSTY RHODES

VS

DICK SLATER

Dirty Dick Slater is at it again and attacks before the bell. It is obvious that he is out to injure Rhodes in order to help Dibiase win the belt this week in New Orleans. After the surprise attack, Slater takes the action to the arena floor and goes to work on the knee in hopes of weakening the knee for Dibiase’s Figure Four.

At one point, Slater has Rhodes’ leg wrapped around the ring post and is pulling it at a real bad angle. Ross is screaming that he is trying to break it. All of a sudden the crowd moans as Dibiase makes his way out and quickly goes for a chair. He smashes it over the leg and Dusty cries out.

Finally the Calvary comes out and Hacksaw Duggan and Wildfire Rich chase the Rat Pack away. The concerned crowd watches on as the medics come out to check on Dusty.

------------------COMMERCIAL BREAK/PROMOS-----------------

Prior to the main event Tommy Rich and Hacksaw Duggan come to the interview desk and explain that Dusty is in a bad way and is being sent to the hospital. They both take turns getting all over the Rat Pack and are full of threats but the crowd is more worried that Rhodes will not be able to defend his title.

MATCH:

KERRY VON ERICH, KEVIN VON ERICH & HACKSAW DUGGAN

VS

THE SHEIKS

(Iron Sheik, Sheik Hercules Hernandez and Sheik Butch Reed with Skandar Akbar

A great main event here! As one would expect, it was more of a brawl then a wrestling match and in the end, Kerry connected with a Tornado Punch on the Iron Sheik and then tagged in his brother who climbed to the top rope and connected with a VonErich Death Leap but before he could make the pin, the camera catches some eye contact between Akbar and ref Bronco Lubich. Lubich is somewhat slow to make the tag and Hacksaw Reed is able to make the save. Kevin tags in Duggan who comes stomping in but is quickly cut down by a double team as the ref simply turns his back. As this was going on, the VonErichs rushed in but this Lubich saw and forced them out. Here we get a monster of a move as Hercules hoisted Duggan up in the backbreaker rack and Reed came off the top rope with an elbow to the head, Duggan flipped and crashed to the mat and Reed covered him for what seemed like a quick count. The Sheiks prevail in this thriller as Ross wonders where the refs head was in this match.

So long from Austin, Texas. Don’t forget to join us this Tuesday in San Antonio, Texas and the HemisFair Arena and next week we will be coming from the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.

As the screen fades to black we see promotions for the show in the HemisFair Arena.
