CarpetCrawler
TMZ just confirmed, she was 45. Found in her home just a few hours ago. http://www.tmz.com/2016/04/20/chyna-dead-wwe-legend-dies/ Statement posted on her official Twitter as well by her management team: https://twitter.com/ChynaJoanLaurer/status/723002666834497536
Benbeeach
There's no one ultimately to blame but the individual and their actions,But I've been keeping, I don't know, tabs is probably the wrong word, but just track of Chyna and her spiral post WWE for what feels like almost a decade now. I want to be surprised, but I can't be. I want to assume that she had been afforded all of the same wellness opportunities other former WWE wrestlers get if needed. But I do get this really pitting feeling in my stomach that for reasons, we probably don't all need rehashed but are going to get talked about regardless, it wasn't always easy for her and the WWE to come mutual understandings. I think she belonged in the hall of fame, and I think a ball of sorts was dropped when she wasn't put in. I get why, it didn't happen, but I think it could have went a long way into saving her life. But that's said she had so many issues, that had very little or nothing to do with wrestling at all. It's really tragic, as these things so often are. She was a one of one. Truly unique, and perfect for her time. RIP
Jingus
There's no one ultimately to blame but the individual and their actions, Unless, like, she died in a car accident or something. Let's at least wait until we've got a cause of death before officially deciding whose fault her death was.

Given her history. But I see where you're coming from. In isolation, it does appear a bit crass
flyonthewall2983
This really sucks. She seemed much smarter than the headlines would have had you think. And she was a pioneer for women in wrestling, no two ways about it.
Strummer
this is incredibly sad. She just couldn't turn her life around this past decade or so. RIP
Strummer
Stephanie McMahon @StephMcMahon 3m3 minutes ago I just heard the tragic news that @ChynaJoanLaurer has passed. She was truly a pioneer in our industry, and she will be missed. #RIPChyna btw, I don't think people realize how popular she was during the attitude era. It's 15 + plus years ago now but she had a recurring role on Third Rock from the Sun in 99/2000 which was a top 10 rated show on network TV at the time. She was all over the entertainment magazine shows and talk show circuit as well. At one point she was even rumored for the female lead in the 3rd Terminator film
fxnj
She actually did turn things around these last few years and went on a vegan diet. I know she had plenty of issues with drugs but I'm still surprised she died so early.
MoS
This is not the place to discuss it, so I will be short: I hooe we as a society reach a stage one day when working in porn does not carry a taboo for its actors. Right now, people who make homophobic statements don't get nearly as much controversy than porn actors, and I find that completely ass-backwards. RIP Chyna. Strummer
I had forgotten how close she was with the Foley family. I think Mick noted that she used to come to their house and watch WWE events up until at least this past summer. They have to be devastated now
iamthedoctor
Sad news. The article I read said she worked for New Japan and TNA. I remember her being brought in TNA to interact with Karen jarrett for the tag match and recall 1 NJPW match was that it post WWE or did she wrestle more? El-P
Can't say this is surprising, but I thought she had been doing better teaching in Japan these last few years ? Well, this is a prety sad story, she's a girl who pretty much had it tough since childhood and she apparently extremely smart. Didn't she speak like four of five languages or something ? The way her life spiraled out of control after she got fired from WWF, from the most petty reasons, is an amazing trainwreck. I was a fan of the character until she became an actual worker, which she sucked at. But the whole amazon woman bodyguard was pretty fun and played a big part in getting Hunter over in the first place. I guess she could have dropped dead anytime in the last 10 years it wouldn't have been surprising news. Another sad casualty of pro-wrestling. This is not the place to discuss it, so I will be short: I hooe we as a society reach a stage one day when working in porn does not carry a taboo for its actors. Right now, people who make homophobic statements don't get nearly as much controversy than porn actors, and I find that completely ass-backwards. Word. French ex-porn actress and feminist Ovidie talks about "social tatoo" for the people working in the porn industry. You just never can get away from it even if you did one scene, it follows you all your life. Coupled with the slut-shaming culture, this can get pretty ugly especially for girls doing it for all the wrong reasons, like Chyna or Tammy did. sek69
It seems like her whole life even before wrestling was a slow motion train wreck. I believe she mentioned in her book there was some kind of abuse in her childhood and her going into bodybuilding and kind of implied that her getting so jacked up and muscular was more or less her overcompensating for that. Then after becoming a star in wrestling as a giant Amazon woman who beat up men, they end up putting her in goofy romance angles with Mark Henry and have her get her face reshaped to look more feminine. Of course the breakup with HHH and everything seemed to go downhill from there.
Jingus
I remember her being brought in TNA to interact with Karen jarrett for the tag match and recall 1 NJPW match was that it post WWE or did she wrestle more? NJPW brought her in for a tour or two, about a dozen matches overall. She had a really terrible match with Chono at a Dome show (much worse than the one Chono had with Hogan a year later, if that puts things into perspective) and that pretty much ruined her chances there. Word. French ex-porn actress and feminist Ovidie talks about "social tatoo" for the people working in the porn industry. Coupled with the slut-shaming culture, this can get pretty ugly especially for girls doing it for all the wrong reasons, like Chyna or Tammy did. Word. BBC's article about her passing called her "porn star" right in the headline, and half the comments were people bitching about how disrespectful it was to point out that she had done the porn. Soko
The one good thing this has made me realize is that the current environment in WWE – from the general attitude and behavior of the talent to the seemingly strict policing of their actions – looks like it should leave wrestlers in a healthier mental state. The in-ring style looks like it could very well lead to some badly damaged bodies in years to come but they seem to have stamped out much of the heavy alcohol / muscle relaxer use, backstage shenanigans etc. Seems as if a different kind of person gravitates toward the profession these days, and wrestling as a whole seems like an easier place to keep your mind together and hopefully that proves to be the case. It's a real pity that the lifestyle was the way it was when Chyna, and others like her, were around. RIP.

Probably, and that's one really good thing about the current scene. That's why I find it ridiculous and immature when old-timers are sobbing because the current guys like to "play X-box" and don't got shit in each others bags and drug-rape female fans (sorry, RATS). Al
This one sucks. I always got the vibe that Chyna was a wholly decent person who was overwhelmed by life.
victory
This was some terrible news to wake up to today. 45 is way too young. RIP Chyna
anarchistxx
Seems as if a different kind of person gravitates toward the profession these days Same with everything. So many football/soccer players from the 80s and 90s ended up messed up on alcohol and drugs and with financial problems, whereas players today are given so much more education about that kind of thing, and the emphasis on healthy living/athleticism/sports science have taken away a lot of the crazy elements of the football lifestyle in those days. The disadvantage is that you get less mavericks drifting into these sports and less personalities. The plus side outweighs that though, people with healthier bodies and minds who will live longer. Wonder how much money Chyna actually made from the boom. She was a huge attraction when I was a kid, probably just below the main event male stars in terms of a superstar that everyone wanted to see and talked about. Benbeeach
I would sooner blame Dr. Drew for what happened to her than Vince McMahon. Seems like a bit of a reach. She was on the Surreal Life before that. The post WWE years just weren't kind to her. Cruelly unkind.
