Jmare007
I honestly stopped reading his post after his 2nd or 3rd "this is my list" threads. But I see no reason to ban him at all, getting rid of people because "well, he doesn't write well and annoys me" is not a good reason imo. If that is such a big problem to some, then just put him on ignore or just don't reply to him. I do wonder if this is the first wrestling board he's been a part of because, if he's not trolling, it does seem he's like a new puppy running around all over the place. William Bologna
Can we all agree to pretend he's Japanese as long as he stops pretending that Japanese people type like e e cummings? It's exhausting.

gordi
Can we all agree to pretend he's Japanese as long as he stops pretending that Japanese people type like e e cummings? It's exhausting. It really is the worst part of his gimmick. The guy has done some minimal research and discovered that the Japanese writing system does not use capitalization or spacing. That is basically correct, but he has extrapolated from that, that a Japanese person writing English would really struggle with capital letters, spacing, and layout. That is not an unreasonable extrapolation, but it is completely incorrect. As I have said before, I have lived and worked in Japan for over eight years. I have a Japanese wife, two beautiful half-Japanese daughters, an extended Japanese family, and many Japanese training friends, drinking friends, music friends, students, ex-students, and so on. I teach private English conversation lessons and business English lessons.Once a year I do a special course teaching new Panasonic employees how to write presentations in English. I have a service where I proof-read Japanese people's English-language correspondence. I helped to develop a method for use in an after-school English conversation club that has since spread to a few different high schools and junior high schools in my home town. I have, therefore. checked hundreds and hundreds of examples of English written by Japanese people. I have never, ever - not even once in more than eight years of this - seen a single example of a Japanese person writing or typing like shodate. Sure, sometimes you'l see a mis-used uppercase letter, but it always makes some kind of sense. Completely random capitalization of English words is simply not a thing over here. The lion's share of the English writing I see over here is formatted beautifully. Without exception, Japanese people writing in English understand how to put a single space between words. Other than very young children, Japanese people more or less universally understand how to coherently organize their thoughts into sentences and paragraphs. What shodate does here is embarrassing and kind of racist. I agree with Bologna, it can be exhausting. Now, clearly the dude has some kind of emotional issue where he needs to pretend to be someone he is not. I think it is reasonable if we, as a generally nice group of people, take Bologna's suggestion and agree to just go along with it. I also think it would be reasonable for shodate to also take Bologna's suggestion, drop the worst part of his gimmick, and just type like a normal human being, the way actual Japanese human beings do. In kayfabe terms, we could all pretend that the massive amount of typing practice he's getting here has paid off and he's better at it now. tl/dr: I totally agree with Bologna here. El-P
Oh, so you can actually write with the right capitalization and comas now ? I don't have nearly the experience that Gordi has, obviously, but I have teached French to Japanese people too (and Chinese, and Korean) and I have never seen that kind of spelling and capitalization/spacing mistake either. The only time I've seen this kind of stuff is in classes with illiterate people, and they actually don't do the same kind of totally random cap/spacing mistake either. Jetlag
I can't decide which I like more: him being a genuine japanese wrestling superfan who has gone to hundreds of wrestling shows and also happens to be an anarchist with an interest in the IRA and old communist anthems who types like no other person in his country or the planet. Or him being an equal wrestling superfan masquerading as a japanese person for whatever reason who has gone through the trouble of looking up NOW houseshow results to pad up his best of lists and posted in this gimmick style for several years already before coming to this board. Eitherways I am mystified.

NintendoLogic
I searched for 伊達太郎 on Facebook, and it turned up a fellow named Shotaro Date who lives in Shibuya. He has a picture of the Kurdistan Communities Union flag as his profile picture, and the last post on his timeline (which predates him joining this board) is a link to a Reslo match between William Regal and Dave Taylor with a few comments in his distinctive writing style. I say his story checks out. I can't imagine anyone being this committed to a con with no conceivable payoff. I am curious as to why his timeline is filled with Ulster loyalist song lyrics, though. AstroBoy
As entertaining as this whole deal has been -- I really just kind of enjoy having shodate's different wrestling opinions here on the board. I wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting to deal with his opinions on politics/gender/etc. . . But regardless of who he is or why he types differently than we would expect, he has brought some different viewpoints and discussion to all the wrestling stuff we talk about.
