sek69 Posted September 2 Report Posted September 2 Yeah I'm not sure the old WWE counter programming bit really is effective these days. For one, there's so much tribalism among wrestling fans there isn't nearly as much crossover as there used to be. Secondly, this isn't the 80s or 90s where you had two companies running PPVs and it wasn't an option financially for people to pay for both shows. If someone wants to watch both, you can watch AEW live and watch the WWE show later on Peacock/Netflix/ESPN app. AEW PPVs are going to end up on HBO Max sooner than later, and then there will be no reason to do counterprogramming nonsense.
Jmare007 Posted September 2 Report Posted September 2 I mean, I think the PPV buys will undoubtedly suffer because of the WWE show but All Out will still make money and have one of the bigger attendances of the year. There will be dumb trolling/stan wars weeks after the show once it's revealed it did the lowest buyrate to date for AEW but bleh, who cares.

And I mean, if if doesn't dent AEW's buyrate *badly*, what's the next plan ? They are putting up the sex-trafficking shit vs John Cena on his (crappy) retirement tour and now there's words AJ Lee is gonna be back at this event (now that's gonna be an entire story in term of unbearable discourse and gaslighting). What's the next big "legend" they can use ? Jericho next year ? Because there's one thing the AEW audience will absolutely do, it's switch to WWE instead to watch Chris Jericho in 2026...
The Thread Killer Posted September 3 Report Posted September 3 AEW just announced they are moving the start time for All Out from 8:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

Johnny Sorrow Posted September 3 Report Posted September 3 Reasons for the move aside, I prefer a five hour show that starts in the afternoon.

Yet another reason this counter programming shit will backfire, AEW marathon shows are much better when you aren't asking folks to stay up past midnight on a work/school night.
Jmare007 Posted September 3 Report Posted September 3 Smart call, good on TK and AEW. Only positives from going eariler, now the have a real chance to even avoid the dumb "negative publicity" of having the least bought PPV in their history.

Totally. I'm not exactly the biggest AEW fan in the world, but I like watching big wrestling cards. But I don't like big or smaller cards that have me up until after 11 on weeknights or weekends. I'm old, so I remember fondly the basically Matinee PPV's, like Mania 3 when I was 16. And that had an intermission. I find the AEW marathon shows way more enjoyable while I clean the house, make a sandwich for lunch, eat two gummies, and then prepare a meal for the family and my friend Chris who'll come over for the last two hours. On Sundays it depends when he goes to Mass with his mother.
