Random question: when they coronated Harley Race as King of the WWF in 1986, did they reference him winning the King of the Ring tournament that year, or was it an arbitrary "well, he's the king now" type of thing?

Pretty sure he was just called "The King" to explain why such an old dude had a chance against Hogan and others..."King of Wrestling", in terms of him being a wrestling Grandmaster.

If that makes sense.

Actually no, Race won the KOTR tournament, beating Pedro Morales in the final. It was a non televised event in 1986.

Gotcha. I didn't think they were running it in the 80's.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering - if they acknowledged this non-televised event this one time when they ignored it all the other times it happened until 1993.

Not only did they acknowledge Race winning that tournament but they credit him with winning two other (presumably phantom) King of the Ring tournaments too. The exact quote is with Ventura and McMahon from a late 86 episode of Superstars, Ventura mentions Race winning "every" king of the ring tournament they've ever had and McMahon replies "well there were only three of them." Ventura wisely replies with "how many do you need?"

This isn't true, as Muraco won the first one in '85, but, that's what they said.

Eric Bischoff's blog - Who You Gonna Listen To?

3. I DO read some of the IWC sites from time to time most notably: www.prowrestling.net, www.pwtorch.com and www.pwinsider.com. Sometimes I check in on them to see what kind of comments current talent are making to the Internet, sometimes just for a chuckle, and on some rare occasions information. I must say that when it is information or news that I am looking for, I only go to www.prowrestling.net as in my experience Jason Powell’s site is the only one who attempts confirm and source check news before posting it.

 I still don't really get the heat between Bischoff and Meltzer.

I think everything Bischoff has said after witnessing Dave's meltdown in the WON during his review of Controversy Equals Cash has been more to troll Dave and get more of that type of reaction out of him. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. At least he's no longer pimping Bob Ryder as a serious journalist anymore.

I thought Eric had more heat currently with Wade than Dave, so I'm surprised to see the Torch in there.

What issue was Dave's review of Eric's book in? I think that as during one of my "lapsed" stages. If it's up on WO-4 in the issues archive, I'll grab it as it probably would be good airplane reading in a couple of weeks.

Like most in wrestling, I doubt Bischoff has a problem with Meltzer. He just knows it creates a buzz to go after him, so he does it.

I sadly was in between Observer subscriptions when Dave reviewed Bischoff's book, but I would LOVE to read that sometime.

Eric just did a Torch Talk with Wade Keller less than a year ago, which is why I think all of this is manufactured.

Can I also just add that the most annoying thing about Bischoff is that he fancies himself a television executive instead of a wrestling promoter?

Eric has been love-hate on Wade for years if I recall. Knew Wade from back in the MN days with the AWA. I was with Wade at Bash at the Beach '95 when he was talking to Eric, and their dealings were good enough that when Eric tried to slide some bullshit by Wade, Wade laughed at it, corrected Eric, and Eric laughed back with a sheepish comment and smile to the effect that he had to try. Latter in Eric's run with WCW, I recall Eric made a scene in a bar afer a show that had Wade scratching his head. So it's up and down. Given the current stuff, I thought they were in a down stretch, so I was surprised to see the Torch on the list. :)

Agreed that Eric is trying to bait Dave with that blog post like he's tried to bait Wade over the bisexual angle. Dave's review of Eric's book was late 2006, so it won't be in the online archives. I wouldn't call it a review per se, more of a WCW history series like the history of the WWF series, which like that series fizzled out before we got to the end of the story. What was written was very good, though there would probably be few surprises to a long time subscriber to the Observer.

So is Eric the reason that Dave's coverage of the WCW endgame was behind Wade's?

John

Yep Wade states as a matter of pride on occasion, so he should it was one of the biggest stories ever.

Someone must have woken up on the wrong side of bed in WWE as Shelton Benjamin, Funaki, Jimmy Yang, Ray Gordy, Mickie James and Katie Lea Burchill were all axed today.

Well let's look at it, Shelton has been average at best for the last couple of years, Funaki, Yang, & Gordy were all curtain jerkers when they were used, Mickie is a country singer, & Katie had no role after Paul got cut. I'm not surprised with these.

Good god I hate the IWC's love for Shelton. Wont be able to move for the crying the next few days. Has anyone ever done so much in a match (MITB) and never gotten over one iota extra as a result of it.

Meltz is reporting that Mickie had some issues in Europe making the bus late a few times because she wasn't on time which was the straw that broke the camel's back. Meltz also said that Haas & Benjamin will probably reunite in TNA.

The Mickie furor is going to be a million times worse. I remember when Molly Holly was released (well, actually she quit) There were multi-page threads everywhere demanding the boycott of WWE.
