Strummer
I was just thinking about Schiavone the other day watching old matches and he really seemed to lose his enthusiasm for the business once Hogan joined the company in 94. You would think he would have been ecstatic during the boom period but he sounded absolutely miserable. It's like he just wanted to call good ole regional pro rasslin and talk baseball on the side
artDDP
Who lit the fire under his ass during that TNA promo against Mike Tenay? I think they only time he showed energy like that during his WCW run was when he closed the 1996 Bash at the Beach telecast with the line: "Hulk Hogan, you can go to hell! Straight to hell!" Dan
I haven't really paid much attention to TNA since, well, ever actually. So what happened? TNA brought in Schivone in to feud with Tenay?

Johnny Sorrow
So, I have a question that has always bothered me, but I just remembered watching Will's Horseman set. During the mass exodus of wrestlers from UWF/ Crockett to WWF circa 1986-88, why did Vince take Sam Houston of all people? Was it a favor to Jake Roberts? Did Vince see something in him as the "Dancing" Young Cowboy? I love me some Sam Houston getting the shit kicked out of him as much as the next guy but I was always surprised that he ended up in the WWF at that time. Â That reminds me of a pretty funny story. When I was 15 I had just had my first serious girlfriend dump me and I was convinced the world had ended. My Dad and his best friend, who was like an Uncle to me, decided to take me out for a day of fun to cheer me up. This was a day in Philadelphia of going to the docks, checking out all the old boats and ships, cheesesteaks...and a NWA Crockett Show at the Civic Center. We bought our tickets in the Parking garage from a "scalper" as the show was sold out, (but still paid almost the regular price). So we were sitting in the upper level where the crowd always were drinking and smoking lots of weed. I had to turn down passed joints with a "I don't do that, but thanks." lie because my Dad was there, but we all got a contact high that left my Dad with a splitting headache. I left to buy a program and Dad told everyone around our seats about my "heartache", and I was totally embarresed. But everyone in our section were all really cool and sympathetic, especially the African American couple sitting behind us. Â Anyway, one of the undercard matches was Sam Houston vs. The Barbarian. Needless to say, Barbarian was killing Sam in many ways that did look insanely painful. This caused the lady sitting behind us to start screaming at the top of her lungs "STOP THIS! OH NO! THAT NIGGER'S GONNA KILL THAT WHITE BOY! AHHH!" Her boyfriend kept saying" Baby, calm down. It ain't real!" And then Sam would bump for something and look dead. She'd start screaming again, "STOP THAT NIGGER! THAT WHITE BOY IS DEAD!" The boyfriend tapped me on the shoulder saying, "Man, help me! Tell her it ain't real!" So I did but nothing helped. She was shaking and crying over the beating Sam Houston was taking from the Barbarian. Â After the match she made him take her home, as she had had enough of this. jdw
Chyna is still a crazy, depressing mess. Good piece, Bix. Depressing is the right word. It's long past the point of being something to laugh at. It's a really sad and depressing to watch some go so far off the cliff, seemingly with little hope of pulling out of it. :/ Â John
jdw
Bixs must love Mike's facials here. I'm thinking Bix needs to get a montage of screencaps for his sig.file. There are some classic facials in there. Â I don't recall if Mike and Tony didn't like each other. Possible, but I'm fuzzy on it. I do recall that Tony flat out hated Ross. Boondocks Kernoodle
Am I the only one disappointed that they turned Edge back heel so quickly? I can't deny that he makes a better heel than face, but he's so played out in that role, and his extended run as heel champ on Smackdown was reminding me of 2004 HHH by this time last year. I dread the possibility of he and Cena main-eventing another series of PPVs this summer.
goc
The problem is that Edge is just played out period. He can't be a babyface at this point and he's done absolutely everything he can do as a heel. Even time off didn't do much to freshen him up, I really have no idea what they could do with him at this point that wouldn't feel stale.
Dylan Waco
Edge is terrible. There aren't ten guys on the planet worse than him. He's always been overrated as a heel because he was with Lita and Vickie forever and they were both heat magnets. As a face he hasn't been since his initial run v. Angle in 02. To make matters worse the WWE writers seem to amp up his worse traits and the god awful spear as a dreaded death move is unbelievably stupid. Of all the people in wrestling he's the one I wish would retire the most

That running hug kills any disbelief that I'm able to suspend. It looks effective when Batista does it, and Goldberg had a great one. It doesn't work at all when it's a person of Edge's build doing it, however. In other news TNA fires douchebagOne might argue that it's not terribly professional of Dave or Bryan to word it like that, but good on them for doing it. I can't imagine how hard it must be for those people who aren't members of the right clique in TNA to have had that scumbag around, lording it over them all. Guest Slickster
I was just thinking about Schiavone the other day watching old matches and he really seemed to lose his enthusiasm for the business once Hogan joined the company in 94. You would think he would have been ecstatic during the boom period but he sounded absolutely miserable. It's like he just wanted to call good ole regional pro rasslin and talk baseball on the side To be fair, Tony Schiavone did a LOT of work aside from Monday nights. From an Otto Heuer interview in 1996: Tony Schiavone: A typical week starts very early Monday morning when I either drive or go to the airport to go to NITRO. I get to the town and we usually have an 11am production meeting, sometimes 1pm depending on travel. I stay at the arena most of the day on Monday and work with Craig Leathers, who is kind of in charge of television under Eric Bischoff. I'm kind of under Craig. If we have any pretape interviews we do those during the day. We work in the building all that day. We do NITRO live that night. Â Immediately after NITRO we go back to the hotel. Then I wake up very early on Tuesday, because Tuesday is a very full day for me. Or, if I drive...I leave immediately after NITRO to go home. I will drive 3 hours to get home. We have alot of people in our company who like to spend the night and get started the next day...but I like to get in the office early on Tuesday. It really depends on where we are on NITRO. When we did the west coast NITRO/Clash in Vegas, I took the redeye and went straight to the office. Â On Tuesday I do the voice over for World Wide Wrestling...not the program to air that weekend, but for the following weekends show. I do the leadins for World Wide Wrestling, I produce and oversee the leads that are done for the Main Event program. I produce those with Bobby and Gene. I produce the Control Center with Gene, and help out in any supervising capacity as far as WCW Pro or Prime Wrestling that's done that day. Â Wednesday, I do some office work like formatting shows for the next week. Then we usually drive somewhere by the middle of the day for our weekly tapings for WCWSN. We usually tape at 7pm. Dusty and I do the commentary there. Â Thursday I am usually in an edit session doing the WCW Control center. Â Friday I edit the Main Event show. I'm only editing the Main Event and Control Center because we are still looking for a producer. I'm really in a supervisory producer capacity, which means I do more formatting and office work...but since we are still in the process of hiring a producer, I have to pick up some slack. Â Usually Saturday and Sunday I'm off...but I have a pager, and I'm on call. If something goes wrong on a TV show, I have to get down there and get it done. I do alot of overnight work. It's a very intense week. Alot of times we will do work all day Tuesday and because a wrestler is injured or leaves, or cards change...I have to redo everything on Wednesday. It happened this week. We had to redo everything on Wednesday.
Jingus
Goldberg had a great one.Goldberg's looked good mostly because it seemed like he really was hitting the other guy as hard as he possibly could. Johnny Sorrow
From the latest classic Observer: Â "Kevin Sullivan's line of the week was when he was saying all his violent acts of the past were accidents, mistakes and he was really a nice guy. Loss
I'm currently typing up the 8/8/88 WON for the Passion for the Business folder, but this quote cracked me up so much I couldn't wait. Consider this a sneak peek. Â "Paul Orndorff is still alive. No matter how many denials get printed in the wrestling magazines and bulletins, I still average at least a half-dozen letters weekly telling me that Orndorff died from any one of a half dozen different causes ranging from getting hit with a bowling ball to AIDS." sek69
So with Rey again making noise about wanting more money, and WWE wanting to make a new Hispanic star to take his place one day. it looks like Dos Caras Jr. may end up the beneficiary. The question is, will they allow him to use the mask when he makes it to TV? He's been working house shows without it, but I would think that would be a pretty significant mask to just throw away since it's not like he could go back to Mexico and pretend it never happened in the era of worldwide TV and internet.
