Loss
So I'm not buying the show because it's way too expensive, but if I were, the main selling point would be seeing Ricky Steamboat in his first match in 15 years. Even if he's a shell of his former self, I'm just really curious to see how much he has left.

As big a fan as you are, your main watching point (if you were going to buy it) would be for someone that was awesome in our younger days over anything currently being presented. Death From Above
Do people get paid anything like an appearance fee for getting put in the WWE hall of fame? Just wondering. I mean in the back of my mind I have this weird idea that someone told Vince "hey Koko B Ware could use a couple bucks" and Vince had one of his moments where he actually was nice to people. I dunno that's probably nonsense, but the thought did cross my mind. or even a catch-all Wrestlemania thread on the DVD board. I don't think they like show threads there until shows are over. I seem to remember a decree about that some time back, because threads would get pages and pages of "Wow" "ooof" "what a bump" and "oh my god" posts at a time that made it hard slogging trying to read. I guess that's probably why there isn't one there. It does seem like a Wrestlemania that even the hardcore fans would really pass on, except it's Mania so you watch it because it's there. People on that forum don't seem to mind a "live" spoilers thread based on the feedback that happens after the shows. Steamboat was the man last night, no question. And Taker/HBK was up there with the all-time greats.

Bob Morris
In watching Volume One of the Summerslam anthology, speciifcally SummerSlam '89, I was pretty amazed at just how heated the Tito Santana-Rick Martel feud was. During the six-man with Santana/Rockers against Martel/Rougeaus, the fans go nuts every time Tito looks like he's going to rally back and take Martel down, and then when he hits the flying forearm, it's one of the loudest pops of the night. The one disappointment of that match was I didn't think they did enough to pay off a Santana-Martel confrontation to really satisfy the fans... and it also makes me wonder if there's a way to track down the SNME match they had, which was one I recall to be pretty solid. Part of me now thinks they really should have done a Martel-Santana one-on-one match on PPV to blow it off. Obviously, Survivor Series wasn't available, but they probably could have worked it into the Royal Rumble card.

Talking about the von Erich induction: It was obvious how everyone (to some degree even including Kevin himself) tried to talk around the whole family tragedies. The whole night lacked good aceptance speeches, only Watts and Steamboat had some deeper speeches, the other ones were mostly just cutting promos. Terry Funk speech even reminded me of some old Ultimate Warrior promos.

Probably easy to find on DM. They had two gimmicks when going around the circuit. One was the Short No Contest Low On The Card + Short Match Later on the Card. The other were draws. They had a number of other matches where Martel pinned him, which were probably mid-lengthed. The no contest was on the 4/22/89 NESN card, right after Mania. It's too bad that wasn't a draw or a mid-lengthed match because *none* of those seem to exist prior to Martel going with the Model gimmick. So the SNME is the best you'll find before he went Model. After the Model, they had a few such as: Rick Martel pinned Tito Santana at 9:38 after spraying Santana in the eyes with his Arrogance cologne (Hottest Matches) (4/4/90; Glens Falls, NY; Civic Center) If I recall, there were others. A bit too bad. Their feud is almost exactly the kind of feud that would show up on Prime Time a bunch. John
Boondocks Kernoodle
After the past two days, I want Ricky Steamboat to come back full-time. That may be selfish of me, considering his injuries and all, but come on. If Finlay can do it with one good leg, so can the Dragon. After Orton wins the title from HHH, I want to see Ricky challenge him for the belt. And win! This could be the Rocky Balboa storyline Dave was begging for with Flair two years ago. No way it happens, of course. I also like how Michael Cole's "Vintage ______" has now become a comedy spot.
Loss
Don't get me wrong, Steamboat looked tremendous. But I think the act would get old quickly if he stuck around too long. I could see them doing a Sgt. Slaughter/Jerry Lawler-style 1-2 matches a year on RAW type deal with him, but I don't know about more beyond that, only because he looked good in small doses, so everyone would expect him to be at the level he was in his prime. If he wasn't, people would feel cheated. I also wanted to add that Chris Jericho is something to be able to carry three wrestlers in their mid-50s to something that wasn't horrible, while also interacting with Ric Flair at ringside and putting Mickey Rourke over in the post-match angle. Lots of stuff for one guy to balance, he pulled it off well.
Death From Above
Everyone is in love with Steamboat at the moment, which is probably exactly why he should stop now. It's one of the basic rules of showmanship, leave them wanting just a little bit more. "You could have played one more year/you had one good match left in you" and all that. This would be a great feel-good time for Steamboat to get out, which is probably exactly what he had planned all along.

Death From Above
Article on Stan Hansen, and his sons on playing baseball: http://www.wacotrib.com/news/content/sport...wachansens.html Even now, his sons watch old films of their father body slamming other wrestlers, including 7-5, 500-pound Andre the Giant. Was Andre even billed as this big back in his heyday or has the legend only grown onwards since he died? “My favorite is my dad wrestling in an outdoors match, and he body slams a guy into the river,” Shaver said. What match is this? Somebody gimmie.

Indikator
Wasn't 7-5, 500-pound the norm? If not, what was it? I vaguely remember him being billed at 8 feet, though it could be another ridiculous claim for another wrestler
