Speaking of wrestlers being full of it, Ted DiBiase said this in a Slam! Wrestling interview (http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/2009/06/13/9790061.html) on Misawa's death: "I learned that wrestling is more of a two people telling a story and that the skill is not in how hard you hit someone with a chair or throw them through a table."

Reading the entire article here, it sounds like Dibiase is saying that when he wrestled Misawa in the 80s he learned (or perhaps) reinforced what he already knew) that the skill in wrestling was more about telling stories through the action than going through a painful stunt show. The chair and tables refrences sounds like a comparison for the fans of today reading the article.

Yes, right before saying that he says Misawa's matches were brutal but I don't think he meant that Misawa's matches only skill were there brutality. It's just what he happened to say before the quote we're discussing here. He's complimenting Misawa for in his in ring knowledge on how to wrestle.

I remember really liking the Cannonball Grizzly stuff I saw on European tapes. Don't remember much about his post Grizzly run in ECW...Did he get any matches or just fed to Spike?

I THINK he was a Baldie for a time too, no?

also. I went to Destination X 2007, right. Remember that Muta was there for no apparent reason. Were they supposed to be building towards anything there or was he just there for no apparent reason?

I didn't see the show but I surmise that Joe is now with the Mafia after trying to murder them a few months earlier.

classic Russo and TNA

I dunno, from what I read, it sounds like Joe and Angle are going to form their own group seperate from the Mafia, so I guess they are forming Main Event Mafia Hollywood or something with Taz, while feuding with Main Event Mafia Wolfpac with Sting, Booker, Nash, and Steiner.

One thing to keep in mind with the Dibiase quote is that Ted's always been one of those guys who complained loud and long about the more hardcorish modern style. He's the type who tends to bring that up even in discussions about other subjects. Which gets all the more ironic when you consider the number of bloody brawls he made his name with in Midsouth and All Japan.

For those who are into the shoot interview thing, the Brickhouse Brown one is just amazing. If you can get past his use of "fuck" and its variants as every part of speech, it's one of the most entertaining ones I've heard in a while.

I legit LOL'd at him talking about his reaction when World Class booker Eric Embry told him he was dropping the Texas title to that "Ronald McDonald lookin' motherfucker" Gary Young.

Brick is fucking awesome and I want about 5 more shoots with him. The Skip Young story was phenomenal along with the Kerry/Toni Adams tanning bed story.

Not to mention that he was the road agent that put the Edge/Foley match together at Wrestlemania 22.

If I recall correctly Muto was over there to negotiate some sort of talent exchange for TNA workers coming into All Japan at the time, and he ended up doing some random cameo on the PPV but I don't think there were any specific plans for it to go anywhere. It was more of a "well... you're here anyway. Sure, throw him on".

Re-watching some of these WCW cruiserweight matches from the late 90s is interesting. Not too many great TV matches because of the time constraints, but you see guys do all sorts of things you may not have known they could do otherwise. One of the few strong matches I have seen is a Jericho/Ultimo match from Thunder, which was super heated and had Ultimo playing a pretty awesome American-style babyface.

WWE ‘Superstars' this Thursday night is headlined by Kofi Kingston defending the U.S Title against MVP and Matt Hardy. This match was taped last night and reports are stating that Hardy suffered a torn abdominal muscle during the match and will need to undergo surgery on it later this week.

I wonder if that comes from overcompensating to protect his hand.

Well the deal was that nobody mentioned it ahead of time so when they showed him on the video screen the crowd went nuts like mad and those of us over the age of 20 were hoping he'd have some cameo with Sting based on their history. Yet that was not meant to be.

There's a AAA video game coming out.

They were crappy games but I always thought the Acclaim WWF games from 98-99 had kind of a lucha-pacing to them and the engine could be tweaked to suit a real AAA or CMLL licensed (HA!) game. Take out the ridiculous twelve step button combination for moves and the physics of Attitude/Warzone kinda sorta looked like lucha. The AKI/THQ games didn't have enough of a flow in the action to imitate lucha. Fire Pro Returns on my PS2 gets the flow of action a little better but there are so many little nuances and quirks in lucha that make it hard to recreate lucha action with what is essentially mostly Japanese-based game developers.

Then again I am legally blind so, lucha fanaticism aside, I might be waaaay off on this.

Has anyone ever noticed that black guy, with no hair, usually wearing a muscle shirt? You see him in the crowd at old WWF shows, current WWE shows, I've seen him at ROH and ECW back in the day too. He also wears glasses I think. lol or that Hulk Hogan look-a-like guy from WWF back in the early 90s? He was devasted at King of the Ring '93 when Hogan lost the belt because that camera blew up in Hulkster's face.
