CarpetCrawler Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 RIP Fink. That made me smile. I love that they even shone a spotlight over the MSG-replica mic.
MoS Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 Piping in so much crowd noise in such a sloppy way is really drawing attention to the fact that it's actually an empty arena match. It's a shame cuz I am liking the actual match.

It's a shame cuz I am liking the actual match. They've never been able to do fake crowd noise in a natural way, it was always SUPER obvious on 80s TV, and was one of the things WCW always seemed to be better at in the 90s.
WingedEagle Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 Edge looks incredibly spry early on here. Impressive to see him show up in this kind of shape and apparently with a chip on his shoulder after the Mania debacle.
Matt D Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 I am definitely not with you guys on this one. You're on your own. Wait, I just took a look. There's blood.
MoS Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 I like the overhead angle and they should use it more often.
C.S. Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 This is the match they should've had at WrestleMania.
cactus Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 I'm not sure what to make of this. The match itself is solid, but the presentation makes this feel like a joke. If WWE are clearly taking the piss with this, why should I care about this?
MoS Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 Why is Randy, the ultimate dastardly heel, paying tribute to Eddie?
sek69 Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 The piped in crowd noise making dozens of people sound like WM 3, Lil' Naitch dressed like the generic ref from an 80s WWF game, using the Fink's voice when they couldn't be bothered to put him on TV for DECADES because he committed the cardinal sin of not being young and/or female, this is WWE basically making fun of anyone who took what they were selling seriously. Sucks even more that it's so far been a really good match that I can't help feel the company is mocking you for liking it.
WingedEagle Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 Just now, MoS said: Why is Randy, the ultimate dastardly heel, paying tribute to Eddie? I'm sure they have no idea, but in theory this is a straight wrestling match. Which presumably means limited dastardliness.
MoS Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 I am feeling bad for Orton and Edge cuz this match has actually been good and they clearly put a lot of effort into it, but the experience is being detracted by something completely beyond their control.
SmoothS Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 AEW does blood, now WWE wants too. WWE always has me rollin'.
C.S. Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 Not sure why all of you are so distracted by the hokey marketing - the match has been very good and I've found it very easy to enjoy it on its own terms.

Yeah this whole thing is like some weird attempt to transfer heat and make the company the heel for how this is presented so people don't get mad at the wrestlers.

Cosign. Not even troubled by the production. That may change when it affects every match on every card, but as a one off, much like AJ/Taker, I'm in.
cactus Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 Yeah, I'm coming around to this. Fun match so far. As much as I want to shit on WWE for the marketing of this match, I probably wouldn't be staying up until 3am to see what they were going to do if this was booked as a vanilla wrestling match.
sek69 Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 I mean, it's not offensively terrible like the the Street Profits/Viking Raiders match was, but the production is just distracting enough to take away from what so far has been a very good match and didn't need any of this bullshit.
C.S. Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 Chops and Flying Crossbody have to be purposeful nods to Flair and Steamboat.
EricR Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 I got a late start after driving back from visiting my sister, still thought I would watch the show and read along with you guys. https://segundacaida.blogspot.com/2020/06/wwe-backlash-running-quite-late-blog.html
sek69 Posted June 15, 2020 Report Posted June 15, 2020 I will say had they done this kind of match first then did whatever that Mania match was as a follow up, that match probably would have been way better recieved.
